Only 5 people in here on Saturday lunchtime. Short walk from Tate Britain. Did enjoy my 2/3 pint of keg Yonder Upside Down even though it cost £9! 3 cask ales from Salopian, 2 from Fyne Ales and 1 from Burning Sky.
A re visit for me on the 28th December with a few friends old and new who all like their ale so this was the perfect meeting place.
10 different ales on the 10 cask hand pumps and a similar number of keg beers also available, and then there’s the bottle selection which must be close to a 100 bottles. The price of the cask ales is a bit high in my opinion, keg ales are always more expensive.
We stayed for around 7 hours going through the cask and keg ales, sharing a few plates of chips and soaking up the buzzy atmosphere.
Knowledgeable bar staff who know their beer and are on hand to offer samples of the ales and advice. As I said it’s a bit pricey but has a great range of ales and a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, certainly worth the walk from Victoria station.
A bit cheeky on the pricing,George Osborne takes a penny off, the Cask put twenty on,decent beer at far lower prices elsewhere.6/10.
An exceptionally good ale exhibition pub, the beer is the star and are kept really well.Ten handpumps with a carefully considered choice. The pub is ultra clean, slightly soulless. This is so much better than the Hope at Carshalton (a few dodgy warm ales, untidy and nowhere near as clean.9/10
Great pub, great choice of ales. Yes it can be expensive (especially on the higher % beers) and the food is limited (not a problem as this is a specialist beer pub).
You'll never get bored here, have visited several times. Everyone I have taken here for the first time is blown away.
This pub has just had a 5th Birthday Festival with a good selection of cask and keg beers. It's not cheap, prices are based on the beer strength. Definitely worth seeking out if in the Victoria/Pimlico area.
My first visit to this cracking pub / bar.
10 cask ales on the hand pumps, a good selection with prices varying according to ABV. Also a large range of bottles, some as expensive as £23.00 a bottle!
Busy on a Saturday afternoon with an older crowd, with most drinking the ales on offer
Bright and airy inside, a few tables and chairs outside for the smokers.
Me and the wife had a couple of drinks here, both of the ales I had were very good and perfectly served.
However I was slightly put off by the over powering smell of urine in the gent's toilet...nice tiling on the walls though.
Very much worth a visit if you like your ales, regular meet the brewer sessions are held as well.
Decent barman who knew his stuff and pleasant barmaid on my recent visit. Had a Tempest Cresta Black and a Tyne Bank Monument Bitter both in good nick and both £1.95 a half. Pricey for some but if its quality its worth it. Layout of the pub was a bit vacant and sparse. The only thing spoiling it for me was some chap at the bar cracking terrible jokes to the barmaid, well cringe worthy! Other than that a must if you are in Pimlico.
Cracking selection of beers, can't fault them at all.
As previously mentioned, food is like an extremely overpriced McDonalds, only the portions are smaller. Only sell burgers. Cheeseburger & chips £11.50 - ouch!!
Just popped in for a quickee at lunchtime but that is so difficult to do here. The choice of quality ales is quite superb. I think there were 8 on including Dark Star Extra Stout, Thornbridge Lombard and Glastonbury Porter. Not an inspiring interior but with ale choice like that I really don't care.
I have tended to turn up here on Saturday lunchtimes before the place gets too busy. At such times it's hard to fault the pub, splendid selection of beers (draught and bottled, including many from abroad), very good and friendly service and straight-forward uncluttered interior with decent loos. The draught ale selection has the plus of a proper range of styles, with stronger beers (6% +) well represented. Not sure how I'd like this if it were heaving on an evening, but my visits have been very positive.
One of London's best pubs and chain is expanding. Extensive beer line up. Oddly shaped building but inside is none the worse for it. Catering is basically McDonald's but there's a good tie restaurant over the road. Friendly staff, quick service, probably being female helped but everyone seemed well looked after when I was there a few weeks ago
A very nice pub - excellent beer quality (Lord Marples -top notch) Food minimal and pricey......but time of year perhaps and not the end of the world. Staff very pleasant and knowledgeable. Decor and furnishings modern but comfortable A great starting point for a seven pub beer walk......hope to return again one day.
I visited this pub recently and could not have had a better time. The guys at the bar were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. This is important when there is such a wide choice of beer and ale. I know of very few other pubs that have such a huge choice of beer, there are several pumps, taps and quite a few fridges with rare bottled brews.
The ambiance was good too, it was a Sunday evening and the pub was busy but not packed. There was a pleasant hub-bub of chatter and they had the lights turned down low creating a very relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy some special beer.
I agree with the earlier review about the identity crisis. Feels a bit upmarket rather than pubby on the inside and the food tends toward the gastro end of things. Also lots of tables marked "reserved" when I visited, which I don't really approve of in a pub.
However, the rare beers and choice were superb and it is well worth seeking out for that alone.
Just up the road from Pimlico tube station, but a relatively short walk from Victoria or Westminster.
What a splendid beer range - approx 9 handpulls and all Micros. Had a good pint of Oscar Wilde Mild. Pub not busy on Saturday afternoon all 9 of us enjoyed the experience. Lots of bottled ales - I should imagine quite expensive but the handpulls got in the way in any case.
Not cheap but it can get away with it as it will always have a captive audience, both due to a good reputation for beer and a lack of other decent pubs around the area. Visit here yesterday was fine although I would've liked a slightly broader selection of choice from different breweries rather than one dominating with about 6 or 7 taps, although I couldn't tell you what it was as the pump heads offered few clues. Sure if I went back then things would've changed over and that niggle would've disappeared.
Firstly and most importantly, the menu of beer and cider available at this establishment is excellent, second to none. There were 9 real ales on tap when I arrived although this was swiftly reduced to 6 and remained that way until closing. Some nice pints the best of which was Crouch Vale's Yakima Gold, top drawer stuff.
But the pub confuses me, it has a bit of an identity problem. It's neither a pub, bar or restaurant, yet in another fashion is all of them rolled into one. The decor and lighting feels incongruous with the establishment's goal of providing a varied selection of quality ales and ciders. That isn't to say it's not nice, it's perfectly decent. Fresh, clean and airy but for me it's a long way from a natural fit for this kind of imbibing.
The food although pricey (11 for a burger and chips) was actually very good and fully satisfied my appetite. The staff were friendly enough although the bar felt a little small for the produce on show and the number of people queuing.
I would certainly recommend this place to people living locally and looking for a beer/cider emporium but for someone who had to travel some distance to get there I wouldn't regularly make the trip. There are plenty of other pubs that offer a better 'pub experience' elsewhere (The Southampton Arms or The Gunmakers in North London for example).
Staggeringly good beer temple. One of the best beer ranges in the country, De Struis Black Albert, and Mikkeller Apollo and De Molen Heer and Veen on when I went. This is premier league stuff. Amazing. Also, sales of 'fancy beer' at half price for take away - and not even past their best before date. Nice atmos and very friendly staff that seemed to know what they sell. 10/10 without question.
Really liked this pub - what a surprise! Spotted it in the GBG when looking for a drink near Tate Britain. Doesn't look very promising on the approach, and inside looks a bit barren in the Gastropub style - though stylish enough. But the beer selection is outstanding, with several beers I'd never heard of or seen elsewhere. A bit heavy on the 5% plus beers (including a couple at 10%+ resulting in at least one customer collapsing against a wall while we were in there!) but the bar staff were happy to offer samples in shot glasses, and the American IPA and Dark Star beers were delicious and well kept. Would be a great place for an afternoon session.
If the only criticism of a pub that you can offer is the higher price, then that is no valid criticism at all.

Sausage factory.
A great selection of ales one tap, about 10 on my visit, with them often changing the make once a barrell runs out (we had 5 changeovers whilst I was there so a total of about 15 different ales to try if you were quick). There was also a decent selection of bottled beers and non-high street lagers on tap. Prices are based on the strength of the beer and anything over about 4.5% will set you back considerably for a round. This is the only thing that would make this place a treat for me to visit rather than a regular trip.
First time here as was recommended. Superb range of ales; could have spent all night there. The building may not be up to much but a walk along the adjacent streets is a "period building" dream. Will definetely go back
Tried this place for the first time last night. Arrived just before 5pm and was already pretty busy, with a work Christmas do taking up one side of the pub and several other tables reserved. So, made for standing room only pretty quickly, as it's not big inside. You pay by ADV, starting at 3.70 for 3.9 per cent and under, so not the cheapest place, but the selection of booze makes up for it. Had lots of different ales on tap, Camden lager and a huge choice of beer in the fridge. Only one cider (Bee Sting) if that's your thing. Not too far out of the way for Victoria station, so would consider a return visit. But, as previous posters have said, at a quieter time and with a bit more cash in my pocket.
What a grumpy bunch of people get on here. I was drinking Dark Star Hophead and American Pale Ale last night which were on tip top form and 3.70 a pint. I agree expensive, but for a pub in central London (no doubt paying top whack business rates and rent) and near Victoria Station, actually about right. And yes it was packed when we left, unlike many of the pubs nearby, so must be doing something right.
The only good thing about this place is the choice of beer, which I guess is all that really matters. Or is it! The faade of the building is awful. The interior isnt much better. The bar service area is cramped. In busy times this place is terrible, but if you want to experience the huge selection of bottled beers then I suggest you grab yourself a table when it is quiet like mid afternoon Monday to Wednesday. And take plenty of cash, it isnt cheap!
expensive but you cant complain about the choice. Looks horrid from the outside and too many blokes called Guy and Hugo for my liking (if you get my meaning) but definitely a must for the Ale drinkers among us.
It was mobbed when i went there at 7ish on a Friday night. will try to revisit mid week.
1st visit since pub's refurb. Seems a little 'cosier' than before, and there's been a lot of staff turnover since last visiting at beginning of the year. Beer range still excellent but prices are way over the top. Food has slipped downhill - they are cutting corners. Fish and chips described in menu as a beer-battered North Atlantic cod is in fact a frozen 'catering' portion quite small and cold in the middle. I remember 2 years ago it was fresh and prepared on site. Apart from that the Cask is doing well for itself and deserves to given staff all round effort and beer quality. But you can get some of these beers cheaper elsewhere in London.
I just found a receipt in my pocket from yesterday's drinnks in the Cask... 4.60 for a pint of Dark Star IPA.
Visited after seeing John Martin at the Tate. A good selection of laughably overpriced ales on the pumps (why can the Wenlock Arms offer the same variety of cask ales for around the 3 mark?), and some of the worst decor I've ever seen in a pub. Made the most of it though and sampled the Cosmic, Dark Star and Acorn IPA's, all of which were in immaculate condition (whch you'd expect at these prices, in fact at these prices I'd expect an extra half thrown in for good measure). The staff were friendly and attentive.
Seemed to have a plethora of trappist beers, and ciders too, if that's your thing. Tbe hand-cut chips were great and the food looked good. I wouldn't return though due to the high prices, nasty interior and lack of atmosphere.
Ps I can confirm that several rugby-shirted toffs were in attendance, braying loudly about the Tory party's regeneration and probably buggery in the quads.
Not sure wether I liked this pub or not, the echoing cafe bar interior reminded me of my old school dinner hall, all wooden tables and chairs scraping on the floor! Having said that the selection of beers on tap was amazing, The 3 Thornbridge Ales were particularly good, huge selection of foreign bottled beers with a telephone directory sized beer menu (rather like Le Vaudree in Angleur, Liege) but for some of them you would need a very fat wallet indeed. Still they are trying hard and its well worth diverting here if on a crawl in London.
Easily the best pub on my pub crawl, a real shrine to decent ale.
In support of this pub, their very success is by being different from the rest and a cut above. The beers are not cheap and, yes you can get them cheaper elsewhere but where would you find the same knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, good food and enormously large range both on tap and in bottle?
Not to mention "meet the brewer" nights when everyone, not just beer enthusiasts and pompous showoffs, get to meet the makers of some of these exceptional beers. These are FREE and open to the general public.
Consider what this pub was like in June 2009. Then consider it now! Job well done in my book.
If you want to drink an extremely expensive beer that's rarer than the one your geeky beer buddy had last week then this is the place for you. loads of pretentious Brewdog/Mikkeler/Molen( I can make it stronger/more bitter/more expensive/more stupid than you can). Sink the Bismarck anyone ? Only 40 quid.Even the good foreign stuff is extortionate - Westvleteren 30 quid!!! - I'll tell the monks and they'll come and abuse your children and steal your contraceptives. To be fair, it's not a bad place and the real ales are not too pricey for central London. For sensible beer at sensible prices in a great pub try the Harp - this is what we do well so let's not try and copy the west coast of America and lose our beer identity and heritage in the process.
Great place if you're after some decent and varied ales in the area. On a site entitled 'Beer In The Evening' this has got to be the sort of place to which punters are encouraged to go.
Just for information, the 'sister' pub is now open in Clerkenwell. It's at the top of Leather Lane, the Clerkenwell road end, not the Holborn end. Mostly 'Fyne' beers there. Now I've seen what they can do, I shall probably visit the Pimlico one.
Solid beer. Showed me up as a pseudo after I dismissed all these brands I'd not heard of as 'novelty' beer. Food is functional near enough a tube. Dependent on time of visit the class mix of the clientle changes.
Solid beer place.
"where public school boys meet up to remember buggery in the quads".
Sir what a muppet you are, by all means give a fair review of the pub, but do try to keep to facts.
I for one have not been to Uni or been buggered, frankly I am very happy to keep it that way.
Great beer but too expensive for me. Used to be a terrible place called the Pimlico Tram full of tattooed neck and scumbags. Now it's gone the other way and is where public school boys meet up to remember buggery in the quads.
I always try to visit here when in London (but the wife is not a particular beer fan!) This time visited on our way out to eat on a Sunday evening. Usual excellent selection of excellent beers - maybe slightly pricier than home (Somerset) but worth it! After a couple of beers, decided we would stay and have their Sunday Roast. We were not disappointed. Pretty good food, well presented and plenty of it. Two courses for 15 was pretty reasonable. Shall return next time we're in London
Any pub that pays attention to serving perfect beer, instead of the pints of piss you normally get in estate locations, deserves to win awards. The CASK is actually in a not-too-bad street, lined with grand houses on one side and the red-brick Lillington above and behind. Blink and you'd miss the relatively small entrance.
Last week was my first visit for a while and it won't be my last - Hophead Saison was seriously clean and good. I can't remember the rest apart from an Ilkley one (also fabulous).
You need an hour to read the beer menu right through - so get yourself a keg pint first to warm up, find a 'bible' and select a bottled brew from an endless list of American, Belgian, Danish....you name it. The prices are steep if you purchase the bottled rarities, but many are under 4.50. You don't go here to get w*nkered, you go to savour the flavour.
I've only eaten a hot scotch egg and brown sauce (yum) and burger here before, both were tasty, no more pricey than usual London prices. I don't care about the cost, although ALL pubs in Britain should make the effort to keep their beer properly, then places like the CASK wouldn't be pricier. Worth every penny.
Just one thing - the hand-drier in the loo is like something out of DR Who.
Beer heaven!! Great selection of British ales, all from micros, and some unique keg beers from Germany, Denmark and Norway. Bottled beer section is mind-boggling too! Enjoyed the strong keg beers on offer, one of which was 17.5% and dangerously drinkable! Pricey? If you want quality, uniqueness, great atmosphere, knowledgable friendly staff and be able to drink some of the worlds most stunning beers, then what's the problem? Look forward to my next visit!! PS I believe that a sister pub is to open soon in Clerkenwell.
Would describe it as a 'real ale bar' as opposed to a pub. Can't fault the selection or quality though - thought the Hophead Bitter was a little sharp to start with but it kind of levelled out to being a good pint. The Acorn Barnsley Bitter was also on good form. Can see why it is popular as it has virtually no competition in the Victorai/Pimlico area.
anonymous - 13 May 2011 21:18 |
Fantastic selection of beers - but outrageously pricey! I am not rich enough to pay their prices.
This page is the correct one for CASK Pub & Kitchen.
Pleasant enough visit last night; good session of well-kept ales finishing with a nice bottle of Schenkerla smokebeer.
Food improved in recent weeks. Fish and chips were excellent - fresh, crisp, tasty and in a generous portion.
Great range of music on the American barman's iPod, lots of laid-back grooves and mild, pleasant C&W and not too loud.
If you want to see an afternoon mysteriously vanish..."The Cask Pub and Kitchen" has now become part of my "Beermuda Triangle". If you're thirsty and like hops you can do lunch in the Boro' market, head up to the Euston Tap on the Bank branch of the Northern Line, tear yourself loose and go South to Pimlico on the Victoria line to sup in the Cask Pub and Kitchen...and then work out how to get home...
I'm interested in jamesbartlett74's comments re the photograph. I wouldn't expect BITE to respond even at all. Witness my comments on the JDW pub, "The Grapes" in Sutton, Surrey where the photograph is reversed and nothing has been done!
Remember this is "beer" in the evening. An average of 6.6 for this place is pathetic. 10/10 for me before and still. Have stopped selling Thornbridge because it is too mainstream! Super place.
Wrong Photo and Pub...
CASK pub and kitchen recently awarded:
- The Publican Magazine Pub of the Year 2011
- CAMRA West London pub of the Year 2011
Also for reviewers suggesting the emphasis here is on American beers in bottles or kegs, it should be stated they have Ten Hand pumps which are always serving ten different British craft real ales from the best micro breweries in the country... The special beers from America, Denmark and other countries compliment this range of beers, but it is obvious that real ale is the number one priority at this venue. Many of the keg and bottled beers they have are unavailable anywhere else in the UK, however this does not change the fact that Ten real ale hand pumps dominate the bar.
BITE needs a kick up its arse to get this photo issue sorted, wouldnt happen on the other pub rating sites!
Large brightly lit room with an American bar feel to it. Soft rock music in the background but not loud enough to disturb. There is a huge range of bottled beers with all the major Belgian beers ones, but they clearly specialise in US brews in bottle and on tap. In addition there is a range of British cask ales. The draught beer we had was in excellent condition. Be warned that the foreign beers were very expensive: 3.75p per half of draught and a bottle of Frank Boon Lambic will set you back 6.25p. The clientle seemed to be a mixture of real ale scoopers and young professionals. Unfortunately the food was somewhat of a disappointment and again it is a little expensive. Perhaps as a result not many people were eating. Pimlico is a well-restauranted area so it is not really a problem. The staff were young, but friendly and seemed to know more about the American beers than their Belgian cousins. All in perhaps a tad disappointing, but it you have a craving for some weird US superbrew then this the only place you can satisfy it in London and perhaps the UK.

MA Tenanted and Leased Pub of the Year.
Having been put off the previous incarnation of this pub, it was a pleasant surprise to come back here and see what the new owners have done with the place. Great selection of well-kept beers (as well a multiple bottle beers we'd never heard of), and helpful staff. Mix of clientele, and the food looked good (although we didn't taste). Only (minor) downside was the lighting inside, which was quite bright and made the place look a little stark. Will be adding this place as a regular fixture for future nights out in Pimlico.
Upmarket and expensive pub with a crap name, but with possibly the biggest choice of beer(British&foreign) in London so one for the beer twitchers. The beer menu is a waste of time as they didn't have the ones I asked for and there were loads on display that were not in the menu, so just point and ask. Food ok but, again, expensive. Modern interior but done quite nicely. Slow service. Worth popping in for a rare beer you won't find anywhere else, but look at the prices first. I notice they sell Westvleteren 12 at 29 a bottle which is not only expensive, but against the wishes of the monks who brew it.
Good session on Sat 12 March - a number of beers from the Summer Wine brewery which were excellent - so was Dark Star Hophead Citra.
nigam2000......given the other reviews, and my experience over many visits, it sounds as if you were the one causing the problms. Fine beer range in tip-top condition, served by enthusiastic staff.
Having been a regular round Pimlico for many years, I'd never heard of this place until I saw it on this website so being an ale fan with a friend with a penchant for belgian beers, where better to go for a few after work but an ale and belgian beer pub? And what a selection of each they do have. Walking into the green brightly lit room, the first thing that strikes you is the suprisingly large space. The second is the long row of pumps and fridges packed with belgian, Dutch and American beers. Eager to please the friendly barmen were happy to provide free tasters. The Bristol Brewery appeared to be showcased with about 10 different varieties including the silky and sublime 'Ultimate Stout', a brainrotting concoction at over 7%. Beautiful it was. However, with the strength comes the price, Many of the beers we tried came in at 4-5.99 often for the bottle measure of 300ml too, so expect to leave feeling lighter of wallet. The food is absurdly expensive, normal pub food, which unsuprisingly seemed to be selling poorly, even at 7-9pm. Scotch egg and brown sauce for 3.95 anyone? 10 quid for a burger with cheese and bacon for 1 each extra? People we spoke to who did eat said the food was OK, just overpriced, but by my reckoning they should shave off 2.50 from every dish and accept that it's a drinkers pub, not a gastrobar. I guess that due to the strength of the beer and the prices, I'll be here once every month or two (around payday), and definately eat elsewhere beforehand. Well worth a visit!
It's a good pub. It's 100 times better than it used to be. The beer is well kept, and the selection is great. The staff are great. Very enthusiastic. Sometimes as enthusiastic as a newt. But beware. Some of the beef is very expensive, and if you don't ask, you won't be told! Go there, enjoy it, but ask questions.
I think this is a great pub and doing great things for the beer scene in London.
I was in there last night and the place was packed why then did they have do have music blaring out at a loud volume making it uncomfortable for people drinking near the bar. I am not some grumpy old man as i go to many gigs in London. Music was not required.
It must be the widest and deepest selection of beer this side of the whatever heaven beer drinkers go to (Dark Star to Dogfish Head) . In a thirsty mood I'd go a lot further than Pimlico to get decent beer, especially interesting decent beer, served by people who like beer. So this is handy. The food's pretty good too. No sign of the PM when I dropped in , shame - we need some beer-drinking patriots to reduce the beer duty on quality ales :-).
Kevmac, don't worry; I just said that thing about toffs to wind my friends up in response to someone else's comment. I can assure you we are not stuck-up!
I love all this "toffs" crap, talk about inverted class snobbery or people with sad chips on their shoulders. Really makes me laugh.
I suppose I must stop drinking here considering I am a council estate boy and proud of it.
Some people really make me laugh.
I'm glad to read that this is a bar for the local toffs - so Parky, Big Al, Danny and me will fit in well! Certainly, Dark Star is a great brew.
Went here with 6 friends for Christmas. Got accused by the manager of forcing the bar staff to give us our table booked for 7.30 when we arrived at 6.45pm, which is totally not true. Then they lost our xmas meal list and we waited ages. Cold calamari, reheated when we complained. Food pretty decent otherwise... then the bar staff just guessed at tabs and placed someone elses on our final bill before guessing which credit card to give back to my partner.
I did write to give feedback and got a very rude response.
Great pub. Food splendid. Comfortable with a decent atmosphere. Lots of amazing beers but very expensive. The former clientele have been removed - probably thrown in the Thames with bricks in their pockets- and have been replaced by the local toffs. Toffs have to go somewhere for a drink and they don't like going places where people are too rough so this place is like a social initiative and is probably being funded by David Cameron himself. In fact if he came in to the Cask he would blend in so well he would be well nigh invisible. If you remember it as the Pimlico Tram don't worry I don't think there will be any more murders
I notice that my comments and rating [made before 31 Oct 2010] have been removed by BITE.
Whatever their reason for this why on earth replace the Cask photo with the old Pimlico Tram one?
Amazing!
I think you will find the ratings were suspended because of reported fiddling by some people to big up this pub.
Strangely, it looks like every review and rating before October 31st last year has been deleted, leaving the pub with a disproportionately low rating. It's also frustrating to still see a picture of the Pimlico Tram, despite it being almost two years since its conversion into Cask.
Anyway, this is a great place. One of my favourites. I've been coming to Cask since it first opened, and it has gone from strength to strength. Since last summer it has come into its own as one of the most outstanding pubs in London. Originally the single large room felt bare and cold, but since the word has spread, and the crowds have got bigger the pub has become more welcoming.
The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, while beers from such revered breweries as Dark Star, Thornbridge, Brew Dog and Mikkeller adorn the taps. On recent visits they have been serving a draught version of Mikkeller's Beer Geek Brunch Weasel, made with the infamous the Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee. A velvety, chocolaty beauty, and one of the best beers I have ever tasted.
My advice is to get yourself down to Cask, and dive into beer that you've never heard of. You won't be disappointed.

Picasso09 my review appears to have disappeared as well.
Like this pub a hell of a lot, as people have said it is not the best part of town but the huge selection and quality of the beers make it extremely worth the walk from Victoria.
My only issue is it took me to long to make my first visit, all those good opportunities I missed!
Very very good range of beers, nice atmosphere, nice landlord. Well worth a visit. My only issue would be that the food doesn't appeal at all; it's fancy and pricey, I would prefer to see more basic and affordable food available.
Fantastic range of UK and Foreign beers, food is good too.
Always busy but plenty of bar staff so never have to wait long to be served.
Not the most pleasant of areas but he pub makes it worth a walk from Victoria.
I haven't visited the the cask on the last six months so have just had a look at the last few reviews.I was surprised to see my previous, positive reviews have disappeared along with my rating. Why this should be I'm not sure, so I shall reinstate my rating as per my last visit, and hope to revisit early this year and adjust if necessary, hopefully it will be as pleasant an experience as before.
Great range of beers but as mentioned in the previous post, damn noisy.
Paid a long overdue visit to the CASK on Friday. Thornbridge Hopton and Brewdog Edge on the pumps. I had a couple of pints of the Hopton which was excellent. I also had a burger and chips which, again, were good. BUT...the pub was playing music far too loud, with the result that everyone in the pub was talking loudly. Having to shout to be heard is for nightclubs, not pubs and I'm a little surprised at Martin for allowing the music to be played at such a volume in his pub. The pub was rammed so he probably won't care about my opinion but if this becomes the norm in his pub I won't be returning.
Not a bad pub and better than the Pimlico Tram that's for sure. A bit steep on pricing but nice to see a reasonable choice of beers in this area. If there were a few more decent pubs in the vicinity would frequent more but it's a bit of a trek for me just for the one decent boozer.
Was impressed with the beer range and quality- cn't complain that the place was very busy, but yes the prices are very steep, which will deter me from more frequent visits.
Apart rom the regular presence of shady Medicines inspectors, this is a very nice pub.
Wonderfully kept beer. Wonder what's happened to Marble though as I like their beers a lot. Nice to venture onto their German lager beers the other night, and some are worth the price, seeing as you'd most likely have to travel out to the country of origin to taste them otherwise!
The fridge is an aladdin's cave of bottled imports from US/Germany/Belgium/Scandinavia. If you're a high earner these must be very tempting indeed!
The chef has changed in the past few months and the menu is slightly modified, but if you go for the hamburger or the penne vegetarian pasta you'll be well-fed at a reasonable price.
I have always found staff and most drinkers in the pub friendly, and the area next to the bar offers mingling space away from the dining area. If you smoke, take advantage of the scaffolding (due to renovations on the estate) that's most handy when it's raining!
In agreement with one of the previous reviewers, CASK started out rather quiet but is now quite the opposite. Recommended and well done for getting into CAMRA's GBG2011.
My mark for the pub is 10/10 based on what's gone into, and then out of, my beer glass.

Excellent night on Sat 13th November. Thanks to Martin, Peter, Timothy and the team for making the evening a success. Pub continues to serve excellent draught ales and foreign beers and a 3-figure number of bottles from Europe and America - albeit at a price!

Strange how a lick of paint and great beer can revitalise a pub! The plump landlord is pretty dour but the rest of the staff are very friendly.
Prices necessitate a small bank-loan but the selection of six or so ales are well kept and change frequently. There were few clientele initially but the place is now busy nearly every night.
There are always newspapers to read and lovely food if you don't mind another bank-loan.

Beers well kept good range, just not my kind of pub.

always excellent range of well kept beers - prices can be high - the beer CAN be pretty strong

Good range of beer, but bottle prices are outrageous, compared to what other pups of il are selling them for. Cask beer well kept.
Always find this place has a strange atmosphere as its not sure what its trying to be, a food led place or beer heaven for geeks.

Super pub, one of the best in London. Brewdog, Thornbridge and Dark Star beers plus others. Unusual draught foreign beer plus lots of bottles. Regular Meet the Brewer nights.
Looks a bit gastro but a decent pub all the same.
