Flats being built on site
What's with that rude landlord & his young lackey? Very strange.
Now has a planning application attached. To demolish the building and replace with 6 x 2bed and 3 x3 bed flats. Well done Youngs you've done it again. The Youngs tour of destruction grinds on , closing any pub they can get a quick Buck for. John Young is spinning in his grave, I can hear him from here. I can't think why I would want to go into a Youngs pub again.
Was becoming a better pub again but closed up overnight 2 weeks ago and still shut as I write.
Youngs pub as ever expensive but beer good.saloon bar is the place to relax away from the rather boisterous public bar.
Another Youngs pub just around the corner from my previous pub (the Lord Nelson). This one had a quiz night in full progress on my Sunday evening visit. I should have sat in the other bar. It's more upmarket than the Lord Nelson. But any updates to the pub don't seem to have spoiled it too much. Shame about the beer selection though - just Special and Ordinary again.
A pub that has really got its act together over the last few months, always a good crowd of people now, good to see. Hopefully they continue to keep the scum out
I met my daughter in here last night, the Young's bitter was good but the language coming from where the table is was horrendous and none of the staff felt the need to have a word, I didn't see the new landlord/lady. We nipped to the Windsor instead which had a much more refinded and comfortable atmosphere. I suppose that's pool tables for you.
This pub potentially has it all now. The saloon bar on all three levels has been painted & refurbished in a comfortable dark colour. The public bar is lively & there is a separate pool & darts room, just off the public bar. It has a serving hatch to the public bar, so it still feels part of the pub. The Youngs beer was on good form last night.
One complaint - the Chelsea goons singing in the public bar
This place s on the way back up! It's taken 10 years but finally there is a landlord and landlady team worthy of this fine building. It's becoming a proper pub again - fantastic!
Innocuos. It was empty at 7 o'clock where as the The Little Winsor was wall to wall. Sign of the times I suppose.
had a very nice evening in here last night, havent been in for 3 years, nice bar staff and lovely cosy refurb.will use this place more often, well done.
I was very sceptical when I heard this pub was going to get a refurb but I needn't have worried. The new people have totally transformed this from a run-down old boozer back into a traditional, cosy, warm pub. The decor is sympathetic to the pub's history with pictures of old Sutton on the walls and I have to say it looks great. Not bad pint of Young's either. Congrats!
This used to be my local in the 70's and 80's and it was a great pub. Get in by 8:30 or you had to stand even on a Monday. Old landlord left and the pub went downhill and stayed down for a long time. Now with new management it seems to have got a lot better. Live Music on Saturday nights. Trimming the Velvet an Irish band consisting of 2 members was not that good, billed as the best Irish band in London was a lot off the mark. Titanic Dance Band were very good for a pub band. Keep up the good work.
Potentially, a pub for all. Youngs in good form. Lively public bar. Separate pool & darts room off the public bar, but still feels like part of the public bar. Lounge bar is on three levels, so plenty of places to have a quiet drink & chat. Additional darts in the bottom level. Now advertising regular music, also Pie & Mash on saturday nights.
i was made to feel welcome by staff and customers, very friendly pub, enjoyed my night in here, will be going back as they were advertising live music....looks like ive found my new local
pub is great now manager & manageress are really great. good pint of youngs too. well done guys.
Called in with my girlfriend last Friday. First time I'd been for while, what a change. The place looks and smells clean and Young's special is the best I've had by far. Very friendly customers. What a boozer should be.
I love this place, the place where I spent the late nights and early afternoons of my young aldulthood. ofpcnc
The pub's been having live music which is a nice change. Theres not enough live music venues in Sutton. A band called No Nonsense played on saturday 4th april but they werent great - way too loud especially the drummer and I hardly knew any of the songs - I dont recommend them. The New Town is a good pub with decent beer and decent service as well.

good beer i enjoyed my ram and special, not very busy but enjoyed the chat with the staff and customers, at least give you the time of day more than i can say about the other youngs pub around here, this is my local for know but will be trying the other pubs around here and there is a few
Honest back-street boozer with well-kept beer (Youngs) and good solid plain food.
My wife son and I went in this pub. The doors were open and the lights were on and customers had drinks in thier hands, but apparently the pub wasnt opening for 40 mins! Considering that there never seems to be anyone in there you would have thought that they would have been pleased to take my money!
Wednesday night are fun and games night with the Gay cleaner named Lee... good family evening and lots of light hearted entertainment
Interesting shaped pub with separate public bar, pool/darts room & three different seating levels in the Lounge. Beer standard but good Youngs. Sunday night quizzes are good fun & provide a nice atmosphere for a Sunday night. Other nights can be fairly quiet.
Hurrah! now under new managment Can only get better.
Public bar seems to be full of wannabe hard boys with about 2 brain cells between all 20 of them...
the saloon bar is full of good old boys reliving the glory days...although theres one bloke who likes to talk while everyone else clearly isnt listening...
I still remember the many evenings spent a this once-legendary establishment. Sadly it has now gone so far downhill, you can see people mining for coal in the souless pit it now occupies. Tragic.
Having been a local of the Newtown I was disappointed when turning up for an England game and found no decorations and about two people in there. We managed a quick half and then piled over to the Little Windsor up the road - shame such a good pub has been left to rack and ruin!
I've been drinking in many pubs in Sutton for many years, and the New Town is one of them. I was surprised to see on New Year's Eve, two astronauts walk in the pub with all their kit including their air packs, remarking to each other that of all the places they've visited in their space shuttle, the New town has by far the least atmosphere. Seriously though, the Newtown is a pub with great potential but a poor atmosphere at the moment.
My old man and his business associates have used this pub for years, ive been going sice i was a kid and is always good to have our meetings in there.
Its gone a bit down hill lately but we know we can go about our discussions and transfer activities without any hassle..

I did a little Local research on what The other local pubs charge for coke:-
The Nelson 85p The New Inn 1.00 The Little Windsor 1.10 The Woodman 1.20 I do not like to malign your pub but it does not sound about right to me!
The pub wasn't empty because of the price of a glass of coke. What do you think pubs charge for coke anyway? 1.60 sounds about the going rate to me.
I went into this pub on on sunday 29t October and they tried to charge me 1.60 for a small coke when i queried the price they just said thats the price!!!!
No wonder the pub was empty !
Don't know why you're moaning mateygirl.....pub's better than it was a year ago.....hardly any aggro and the food is very good....could do with more bar staff at times though.
I have to agree with Steve from earlier, was a good local pub under the old management, but now under the new management it's crap...enough said

Local corner street pub, with three "rooms" in the lounge, a public bar & separate pool room. Beer standard Youngs fare.
Been in a couple of lunch times, barman seems freindly enough. Not overly quick, but there was no rush. 1 good pint, 1 medeoche. Locals not overtly freindly, but not unpleasant. Didn't eat, but didn't like the look of the sandwiches served. Will probably keep trying this occasionally.
under new ownership-really friendly staff; if not a bit slow service! Great at lunchtimes. Consistently good bar meals and good pint of Youngs.
Similar story. Suddenly turned into an over 21 with no notice due to problems with local school kids (so I'm told). Upon arrival for some food after work, I was (as a slip of a 20 year old at the time), told in no uncertain terms that I wasn't welcome to bask in such illustrious company as the 2 inbreds at the bar. As I protested my ignorance of the new rules and apologised I was rudely informed there was a cleary visible sign outside explaining the rules. Upon inspection this tiny chalk sign had been run over by the manager's Mondeo and was only visible if you looked under his car. Suffice to say I haven't been back despite now being 'legal' and don't intend to. I'd risk Wetherspoons over this dump.

After a 2 year absence (I used to go for the quiz), a few of us went in, wishing to avoid a stabbing/mutilation down Sutton highstreet on a friday night. On entry the entire collection of yokels (to call the locals would be too kind) attempted to stare us out. Small talk with the bar staff resulted in derisory snorts from said yokels and then come 11 o clock the manager came to tell us to 'hurry up and get out in 1 minute'. Given that we made up half the customers in the place you thought he might want to returning trade. Shit hole.

the funny little blonde lady is the only friendly thing about this pub

The Landladys mother, who does the cooking, is a bit of a dish herself.

with so many pubs in the area, it's quite shocking how little effort is made to be friendly to new customers. the locals look down their noses at you, as does the owner. Oh well, their loss.... foods not that great either
who's that funny little blonde lady that cooks the meals
When i first went in the New town i was very suprised... The staff and the customers where very friendly, very very good atmosphere. Now i take my girfriend there every Sunday for there roast dinner, it has to be ther best in Sutton, also very well priced.... Take my word and try it soon

quite disapointing, no atmosphere. and some clicky locals, make this a pub for when your desperate for somewhere to eat.

Friendly staff, good beer and children are welcome too

Once legendary boozer, sadly spoilt following change of ownership. Worth the occasional beer just for old time's sake.
