well just returned to this wonderful public house. the food is exceptional. today i tried the chilli. this was truely to die for. wonderful presentation and was absolutley perfect to eat.
the chef chris should soon get the pub its michelin star. come on michelin i have been to many top star eateries and this ranks up as one of the best. the chef chris reminds me of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. it could be his double.im sure chris will get his own tv show as he is just as good cook if not far superior.
jill and steve who run the pub are so welcoming and look after every customer. it is also good to keep seeing the head brewer of greene king come into the pub and drink the beer at this pub. so reputation for food and beer is top notch ,keep up the good work and i look forward to trying my next meal at this wonderful place.

this is an up to date review of this pub. i have visited many pubs in my time but this one tops the lot. the land lord and lady have been there over a year now. they have turned this pub into one of the best in the country. if not the best. they are welcoming to all who enter. they have two top class chefs for food. chris and harry. this pub should achieve a michelin star if someone from michelin visited it. the food is to die for. i personally recommend the steak and ale pie. this pub is a greene king pub and when you see the head brewer of greene king always drinking there then you know the beer is perfect for any ale drinker. a nice roaring fire in the winter will keep you warm. so do go along and visit this wonderful pub. make this a pub to visit before you die as you will be annoyed if you never go to it.

Four of us visited today (Saturday)at lunchtime with the main purpose of eating and chatting. We loved the place. The food was great (recommend the stilton and broccoli soup). The fire was lit and the pub was cosy. Staff were very polite and friendly. Granted we didn't visit for the beer but the place deserves some very positive feedback on its staff and ambience. Someone else can do the beer review, but my coke was lovely!

Have to say agree with most of the negative comments. We used to live in this place - always warm, friendly, classic village pub with top class beer and good value food. Now decor is cold, staff indifferent and beer/ food nothing special. Shame, used to be a real gem.

I dont know which pub these commentors have been visiting but i am a local in this area and the Tostock Gardeners Arms has plenty to offer everybody. the menu is super, the landlord is brilliant with all of the customers and i know them personally and Catrin and Jackie are brilliant at cooking. I belive that the current owners are the best thing for the gardeners Arms, it is a family run pub and i dont think you can expect anything more from them. there is live music, there is a cheery atmosphere and they do the best chips around! as for the comment about the beer, i know for a fact the landlors takes pride over his pint. i dont see any problems with it.. all i can say is that if you dont think it meets your expectations it will be the one day in 365 they will let you down. Try them again. ill raise my glass to the owners because i feel they are doing a brilliant job keep it up guys! i dont hear the regulars complaining!!

I went to the Gardeners Arms randomly the other evening with my husband and was pleasantly surprised. A roaring fire in the lounge, a friendly welcome by the staff and the best home cooked food I have tasted in some time! The cheesecakes on the special boards are definately worth leaving some room for! The best meal out in a while! My husband as a beer drinking was very satisfied with the beer and even handed me the car keys!

used to be really good but has gone downhill badly recently. Food has got too expensive and it's rare that I leave a place after one pint because the beer is so bad..... Real shame as it has fantastic setting and family friendly garden

Yes the chips are very good, but this pub is going downhill - beer is going up in price and down in quality. Lots of nettles in the child friendly garden. Real shame as it is a great location and had a brilliant reputation not so long ago

The pub appears to be suffering from lack of direction and a smile.
What has gone wrong??

Here's a review from my Mum and Dad who went for lunch at the Gardeners yesterday: "re Gardener's Arms -Pub grub average if you need to eat but don't go especially. Would recommend the "cheeseboard for two" at 6 as good value. Their chips are home made too. Dad said the beer was v. good. Atmosphere unaltered from old fashioned un updated pub with few old geezers at the bar laughing loudly. New landlords/ladies very friendly. Only half dozen people ate on that Wed lunchtime. I wouldn't go again but might be different I suppose if you just wanted to drink in untrendy country pub."

Used to keep the best Abbot in West Suffolk but haven't been for over 5 years. If the landlord is the same then the beer is probably just as good.
