The London & County is a branch of Wetherspoon's, situated on a corner just opposite the railway station. It made a convenient first port of call in Eastbourne yesterday lunchtime. It was quite busy, with most tables taken and the pub was doing a roaring trade in food sales. There was the usual Wetherspoon's selection of Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. Guests were Long Man Best Bitter, Wood's Shropshire Lad & Lacon's Affinity. The 3 real ciders were Weston's Old Rosie, Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon & Thistly Cross Whisky Cask. It wasn't my round. So, no idea on pricing. Otherwise, not a bad start for a short crawl of the town.

I travel the country and this is the most expensive weatherspoons and nowhere near the best
Popped in last Friday for a couple after work, the Adnams Broadside, one of my favourites, was in absolutely first class condition and at £2.75 not expensive either!
Yes, there are some nicer real ale pubs within walking distance, but you will undoubtedly pay £1 more for something similar!
The pub can get extremely busy.....but hang on, if it's too quiet there's either something wrong with it or it's about to be closed down.

Why this 'pub' is in the 2015 Good Beer Guide is a complete mystery to me. There is a fair range of ales (but not that cheap), I suppose, but they all seem to taste the same. And I thought CAMRA were supposed to be against the 'one size fits all' pubs owned by the conglomerates. Must have been wrong all these years!
There are several really good pubs just around the corner. They are in the Guide and rightly so.

This a Lloyds No 1 bar with 2 lounges on 2 floors. A good choice of real ales but rather expensive for a Wetherspoons. More comfortable than you typical Wetherspoons. Appears to be a young person's pub based on my visit. Can get noisy when full.

I knew the idiots on here would get a little worked up, probate is not granted until it is cleared by HMRC , I thought that was common knowledge, alcohol is clearly rotting the brain tempest.

It is also sad that an old chap has to boast on a site like this (concerning beer and pubs) about late life inheritances. Bizarre really. But slerpy is just that - when most of us are simply thankful, greatful and proud to have earned - ourselves - what we have.....
One has to wonder why old Steve P Sanderstead (slerpy) has to provide this information on a public beer/pub site! Dementia, most likely. But, inheritance tax is a major downside/worry in such matters - and tax blokes are known to read BITE too (too, spelt correctly).
I'm not to old to enjoy my two recent inheritances, big houses in Dulwich go for decent money! Happy - Oh yes!!!!!
'Full of unpleasant old men'....
Slerpy, this place seems made for you!
This pub is close to the station and that is its only merit, full of unpleasant old men who have found the cheapest pint in Eastbourne., the other 'spoons two minutes away is very good indeed but it is pricier.0/10.Yes, that poor!

Pretty unremarkable Wetherspoons devoid of any character.

Typical Weatherspoons, big screens up with TV on but they put the subtitles on, which is nice because most pubs don't. Decent choice of real ales and I've never had a bad one - reasonably priced, and the pub is fairly typical pub fare. It's a bit of a barn of a place but at least there's almost always somewhere to sit except on a Saturday night when it's heaving. Bar staff are friendly and attentive.
Less ale choice than many other Wetherspoons (albeit on a par with the Cornfield Garage around the corner). Busy with a pre-club crowd on a Friday evening and mobbed with shoppers on a Sat lunchtime. Much of a muchness.
Fairly typical Wetherspoon - beer quality usually OK, but not a large choice. The usual type of Spoons customers, who act as if they've been drinking for hours, even in mid morning! Nothing to write home about - the best thing is it's handy for the station.

Rather shabby pub. Barman served me promptly. Food good value, chicken melt, chips & veg & pint of Ruddles for 8.89. Small portion of chips. Food served in 6 min 12 sec.
I can understand, everybody is entitled to their opinion, i however have nothing negative to say about this pub. It is pretty good for food during the day, its not top restaurant quality, but its a pub and they serve the sort of meals you would expect to eat in a pub! the staff could do with smiling a bit more!! i have been in there during the week and also at the weekends. The weekends are completely different to what its like during the week, they have a Dj on a Friday & Saturday, Music is pretty good, Dj is friendly and gets the atmosphere going, Maybe he could play a little bit of cheese as myself and my partner are partial to a bit of spandau ballet!!! Beers are cheap, even on the weekend, what more could you ask for.
Oh dear. My opinion of Wetherspoons decreases each time a visit a new one. Totally indifferent service and staff who can't cope. Very unwelcoming with dodgy customers and poor quality beer. Pass it by.
Awful people and hopeless staff. You wait ages for a drink and the bar staff don't have a clue. This was a Slug & Lettuce before and the staff were fantastic - friendly, keen and helpful. Eastbourne continues to progress further down the list, and this pub contributes to that. Does JDW not employ managers?
This place (despite the comments from a worker below) continues to offer a dreadful experience. I waited for 15 minutes to get served but gave up. The staff are on another planet. They are dis-interested and look bored. JDW should either sack the lot of them and get a new manager - or close the place down. It's possibly one of the worst JDW's I've visited. Even in the evening the staff look like they would rather be anywhere else. A bloody disgrace.
Well, popped in for a pint one weekday lunchtime while client visiting locally and found it to be perfectly OK - efficient service, reasonable prices - and normal looking customers too! Although I didn't eat the food looked fine and they have some tempting food deals too. All in all not as bad as previous comments would suggest. In view of the improvements noticed on my visit a few months ago to the other JDW pub nearby it looks like JDW have upped their game.
You're going to say that I'm biased because I work here but I'm not going to argue any particular facts. I am personally upset that so many of you have had bad experiences at the pub and would like you to give us the benefit of the doubt and pop in. Our plus points are that we're cask marque accredited, have at least four cask beers on in all but the most extreme circumstances and have scored 90 and 100% in our last two mystery shopper visits.
this JDW pub hasn't been open long but is the pits already . Rude barstaff and ruder management ... along with the usual suspects as customers . the other JDW is better for this one opening !
We already had one poor JDW in Eastbourne and now there's another. Understaffed, dodgy, spivvy crowd nd often takes ages to get served. Poor standard and poor pub.
Definitely not the best JDW in Eastbourne.
Made another visit over the Bank Holiday. At upstairs bar waited 15 minutes whilst the solo barmaid worked her socks off. Only to be told they were out of wine! Then asked for lager - that was not available. Then left. won't bother again.
This (Wetherspoons) looked promising when it opened. However it has quickly gone downhill which is a shame. Slow bar staff and now attracks 'customers' that have been banned from bars elsewhere. Hence it appeals to foul-mouthed locals who are drunk by lunchtime. Weekends attracts parents with kids in prams who struggle to get through the (badly installed) front doors. The beer is cheap but quality is poor.
