please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Judeey should be more careful when criticising the grammatical errors of others. Her review contains at least 14 mistakes not including punctuation omissions. However, I must agree with gooner13 that all the public houses in Exning have something to offer the village. With three inns available we are able to select the one that suits our individual requirements. Use this guide to let others know our honest and factual opinion.

Please note the person in question on the Friday night was NOT a local, I was there on that night and have used this pub for 34 years and this couple have not visited the pub in a long while. I am a local and there has been to many comments 'kicking' us.White Horse, White Swan or Wheatsheaf drinkers we are all OK. If someone wants to discredit the folk of this fine village(check the other the village pub reviews)they will only make themselves as bad as they preach. Ken and Jane have now settled in well and we all wish them good luck for the future.

How sad that things get distorted, (and that people cannot write comments grammatically correct) my partner and I were eating (as we always do on a Friday) when this incident took place. The so called fight was started by one of the DRUNKEN LOCALS, who couldnt tell a fillet from a sirloin!! proceeded to throw it at the landlord and attacked the landlady when asked to leave. Her partner then punched the chef in the face (who had jumped to the landlady's defence) All I can say is that she was lucky that charges were not brought against her, as the pub was packed and so plenty of witnesses. Still must have made an impact to be posted on here -shame, you all ought to get out more.

been told if i get to this pub on a friday night you can see the landlady. FIGHTING for customers.

what can I say about this pub, I have only been going there for just over 2 months but I know lots of the locals who drink there and have a good banter with them all, I have to say that it has got a lot busier since I started going and that is purely down to Ken & Jane who have become good friends of ours, and have the knack of making everyone welcome, also to Jez and Dean who create absolutely wonderful meals which my partner and I eat on a very regular basis, and the waitresses are very friendly along with the bar staff. I consider the pub as an extension of my living room where you can totally relax.

I'm not a local to exning but try to get to the wheatsheaf at least once a month. the bar staff are friendly and chatty and the landlord and lady are in a different class to any other publican i have met. There food is fantastic and portions are huge! Reading a couple of reviews on this site there seems to be a number of bitter locals, There is no need to be jealous of this fantastic take over of the wheatsheaf change is good and in this case it's GREAT..!!

This is a great place to eat drink and be merry.Run by a great couple who are actually to be seen working at all times in the bar and kitchen. Not commonplace these days in the times of bar managers who dont know one end of a beep keg from the other. Food all home cooked, no frozen rubbish or microwave meals so therefore is worth the wait. The best thing about this place though is that you can really relax, and thats why I go to a pub in the first place. Other pubs leave me more stressed than before I went in. I dont know where the odd bad review has come from. Someone with their own personal agendas I reckon, as they obviously havent really been to this place to misrepresent it so badly
|
I dont know how anyone is able to place a bad review unless of course they havent really been at all, or they have a personal axe to grind. I suggest the latter. I have eaten many times, the portions are not small, the beer is not flat, the horses may have long faces but the staff dont. If anyone wants a nice sociable night with good food and company then go here!! if you dont... well better to stay at home really!!

There appears to be some kind of problem with the locals in this village after reading some of the comments posted, well I would like to post mine. My girlfriend and I have recently moved into the village and have tried all the pubs, and this one definately comes out on top, the landlord and lady, could not be more welcoming, the staff are friendly, the pub clean and there is always some kind of snack on the bar to nibble at - and its free!! We had not eaten there until last night - we took some friends- it was my birthday, the food was fantastic (they have a full time chef)great choice and more than enough to fill us up but what really topped the evening was when the landlord came and gave me a bottle of pink champagne on the house to celebrate my birthday.

Thought I would take advantage of the recently opened B&B facilities at this loveley little pub, as I was in the area on business, instead of pleasure (I'm usually in here for a sunday roast without fail). Food, was as always...FANTASTIC (You wont find better). Had several pints in the bar with Ken & Jane (The Landlords)and several of the friendly locals, who are more than welcoming to an outsider (I'm from Herts). The rooms are superb *****, recently refurbished, full of olde worldy character and have ensuite facilities. Breakfast was a choice of Continental, Great English and Smoked Fish. The only problem I have now is that I was looked after so well that I dont want to go home, so now the missus will have to move in with me!!! (IF CARLSBERG DONE PUBS.............THIS WOULD BE IT)

Dear oh dear! I have visited this pub yearly for the last four years.. what has happened? The atmosphere has totally gone and the staff are at best struggling. My family and I were all so disappointed with the food and the one beer I had was flat. The (presumably) locals around the bar were also moaning about the beer. What a shame that this lovely family pub has sunk to this.

I have visted this pub many times in the past but after the last meal we had it will be the last. The food took a long time to get to our table and was very poor and small portions. The staff were very unfriendly with long faces. In the past the meals have been excellent but I think the new management have never run a pub before and are out of there depth here.

I went to the 2000 guineas meeting this weekend at Newmarket. I go every year and stay for the whole meeting. I spotted an ad in the Racing post a few weeks ago advertising this pub as opening newly refurbished b&b and thought I would give it a try, I normally stay in one of the hotels in town. I must say I was not disappointed, The pub is a fantastic little place, the staff great, the accommodation as good as any of the hotels, really tastefully decorated rooms, clean, lots of character and homely touches. The food was out of this world, all freshly cooked by their resident chef. The sunday lunch was the best I have ever had. On the sunday evening there was a live singer and the place was buzzing, I rate this 110% and will be visiting it again very shortly.

I have been in this pub many of times and have been warmly welcomed by the landlord and lady on each of these occasions. The food is excellent and the chef is very sociable i complimented him on the cooking of my steak which was to absolute perfection. The ales there are like no other and the bar service was somewhat brilliant. But what got to me was listening to the locals it seems all theyre worried about is the increase in beer prices but when they taste like that you cant complain.

Went racing at Newmarket, and fancied a meal out of town for a change saw a sign for this pub. Fantastic, clean, great food, a little bit up market, nice people and atmosphere and friendly staff. Also noted that they done B&B and so enquired as I go to most Meetings at Newmarket Racecourse and always book into B&B, The landlord offered to show me round, recently refurbished, fantastic luxury ensuite rooms have booked for the Guineas meeting. This is a must try.

Well, what can I say. Our third visit to this wonderful little pub (with friends this time) and yet again delivers on all fronts. A great selection of traditional ales and all the usual spirits. Friendly bar staff. Helpful and very pleasant waitresses, who go out of their way to make you feel welcome with nothing being too much trouble. I must say the sunday roast was, as usual, excellent 10/10. As it was a nice day, we decided to stay for a while and sit out in the garden in the glorious sunshine where we got talking to a few of the friendly locals. Great Pub
|
HAVE BEEN USING THIS PUB RECENTLY AND ITS GREAT, ITS A SHAME THE LOCALS DONT APPRECIATE DECENT SURROUNDINGS TO DRINK IN AND FRIENDLY STAFF, STILL SUPPOSE ITS ONLY TO BE EXPECTED.....
|
This was a wonderful little pub, how sad that the white horse now benifits from the fun and laughter of the friendly locals.

I travel up to newmarket quite a lot on business and end up eating out most of the time. I have eaten in this pub before but wasn't impressed with the food. However, I had heard that it had changed hands and that the food was excellent, so I decided to give it another go with my wife. Well, we wasn't disappointed, we had a traditional sunday roast with all the trimmings and I must say that the roast potatoes were better than my nans (Sorry nan). For afters we had homemade chocolate and lime cheesecake which was delightful. Great food, have booked again.
