A bit of a daytime drinker's den and we were no exception. The music was excellent and of a retro style while a pint of Laine's was serviceable. Scruffy and not especially engaging but did the trick as a stop off.

Really good pub actually. Decent bitter and lager. Nice staff and great position on Queens Road.

Impressed with this hostelry upon my visit Polite service, with an upstairs section which looks like it could do live music in a jazz atmosphere. Only stayed for one pint, but if upstairs, poke your head out the window to the right and enjoy the great sea view

Now under new management - helpful friendly staff This pub always had potential, looks brighter and beer is good. New menu starts next week.
If you've not been in recently might be worth a pint!

Almost triangular shaped pub. Pie menu varies, they are quality pies although some may find them expensive at 4+. Hosts a comedy club upstairs on Saturdays. supporter of local breweries.

Often a stop off for a swift lunchtime drink when in Brighton on (monthly) business, mostly always friendly staff but unusual to see the same face twice! Menu rather limited, all they seem to do now are pies, pies and more pies! Pub has a small uninspiring outside 'garden' area in an always shaded alleyway. Watch out for the very narrow stairs to the loos.

Great pub with lots of historic original features and fittings. Monthly guest brewer (Dark Star August!!), a warm welcome and a great atmosphere. lots of wood and brass. Love it

Went into this pub today for the first time in months: a lot cleaner (the fans are not now caked in dust) but drink quality was disappointing, hence the middling rating

I don't mind this pub, the beer is ok, but last time I went in there they were playing BANGING hiphop, so loud that you had to shout to be heard. Very out of place in a pub like this :-( I've given it a five, but they could easily make it a 9 with a bit of TLC.

Since re-opening this pub cant quite seem to work out what it is or where it's going. It seems to have a new manager every other month. Which is confusing as it is such a central location and it has such nice modern decor. Friday night seems to fill the place with west street punters and brings down the tone of the place. On a plus side, if you're in the park nearby they let you use the toilets if you ask nicely.

The interior is slightly less quirky than was, but still fine. But the beers were disappointing; not a patch on what it was before. More geared towards trendy young 'uns - who arn't interested in beer. Went back to the Evening Star...

Lovely little pub, staff could be better but not unfriendly. Several good ales on tap.
|
visited on sunday afternoon and there was a jazz trio playing. Not usually my thing but it was very enjoyable. Harveys Best and Theakstons Old Perculiar on tap. Things are looking up

Oh Dear, Just popped back to Brighton and visiting my favs... WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO THIS PUB.. Looks ok, great it was not knoked down! But the beer is rubbish and the service is only great if you like an attitude and dont mind putting the staff out by asking to be served. The atmosphere has gone from this place and the beer is not worth wetting any whistle.......

Right I may owe this place an apology. 6 months after opening Zel are finally selling some ale at the alehouse. Had a decent pint of W J King Red River last weekend. They had Deuchars IPA on too.

Popped into the "new" Quadrant last week on a rare return visit to Brighton. I like it! OK, there's no cask ale, but the keg Bombardier and Youngs Bitter were perfectly drinkable, and the refit works very well: the old pub has been smartened up but it's still unmistakably the Quadrant. Service was good too. Like others, I had wrongly assumed that bulldozers were on their way. If there are things about the new pub you don't like... while there's life there's hope!

Quadrant "Ale House" is open. Only it doesn't serve any decent ale. The same old stuff as all the other Zel bars all over town. Bomadier and Greene King Speckled Hen. No sign of any Belgian beer. Such a waste of a Free House. Refit is pretty good though. It might be yet another Zel bar but don't forget it nearly became rubble. At least there's hope someday it might be leased to someone else and we can have a decent pint.
|
Great news. Hope it's as good as it used to be. I discovered the Quadrant around 12 years ago, picking it purely at random, and always went back whenever I was in Brighton. Was always noted for its range of ales as well as generally being a good all-round boozer with character.

Yes, it's reopened!

Walked past this fine old pub today and I couldnot belive my eyes. The doors were open and a brand new Quadrant is nearly finished. Optics are up, chairs are in and it must be reopening any day. It looks just like the old one with all the different levels for you to fall down just like before. See you on there.

I visited this place back in 2000 with a mate for its Belgian beers. Sorry to see it gone.
|
I used to go there for a good range of real ales when living in Brighton during the mid-late 1980s. On Dec 31st/January 1st 1988 I met someone there I will never ever forget even though I knew her for only eight months and have no idea where she now is or what has happened to her.
So sad to see the place derelict, as it now is. "But that was yesterday, I was someone else then".

Had a brief fling with a beautiful long haired biker in the Quadrant when i was lonely having moved to Brighton a week earlier. She was there with an unbeautiful huge bearded biker with chains. Illicit and memorable. You dont get memories like that in just another clone restaurant. A real shame.

I'm gutted after reading Ian's comments. A big shame is right.

The Quadrant closed in March 2003.
There's currently tons of scaffolding all around while that whole triangle of buildings is being demolished/refurbished. The pub's bar is listed, and will be incorporated into a new restaurant. (Brighton certainly doesn't need yet another restaurant.)
A big, big shame.

Good selection of real ales. Place could do with a bit of a clean however and there are steps in unanticipated places. (At least it seems that way after a few)
