A foodie Hall and Woodhouse pub. Badger's beer: Glorious Game, First Call and Tanglefoot. Meals from about £10 - okay.

Had a refurb a couple of years ago, food orientated, but still a good locals drinking hole.

Good village pub, leaning more towards food. Badger ales were on - Badger, Hopping Hare and Tanglefoot...TV in the corner and large pub garden...would visit if in the area again..

Pleasant pub with friendly staff. Carpeted floor, candles on table. Reasonably priced food served promptly. Owned by Hall & Woodhouse. I had a pint of Fursty Ferret.

Nice building, but that's the most positive thing that can be said about this pub. We arrived at 7.30 to be told in a cold manner to come back in about 30 minutes as the tables were full and there was an hour's wait for food. We returned an hour later and asked for a table, only to be informed rudely by a member of the bar staff that the kitchen was closed as they had run out of food (bearing in mind that a sign on the door said that the pub served food until 9pm). We heard similar reports from a few other tourists who had also tried the Ship Inn. Not to be recommended.

Would like to make a comment about this pub we went there on friday night, that is myself and my friend, who is in a wheeler chair. All the tables had reversed on them and was told that more tables down in the bar. Down a step??? when we pointed this out to the person looking after the resturant he just looked at us as if to say not his problem. We left the pub. I did notice that there was a disabled parking bay in the car park!!!!! We left to find another place to eat. Can't comment on the food as we didn't have any!!!

Called in for a swift pint with my lad after playing with the tanks at Bovington. Quite a comfortable pub on the main drag from Dorchester with friendly atmosphere and well kept Hall & Woodhouse ales. Didn't try the food.

Popped in after a day of Monkey-bothering up the road, for a quick pint after finding the Bear closed.
Decent pint of H&W First Gold (it's an H&W pub by the looks of it, other ale was Tanglefoot).
Pretty spacious inside, two bars and a few nooks and crannies. Gives off the impression of olde worlde, how legitimate that impression is, I don't know. Plenty of food available, didn't sample.
Minus point for the surliness of the barmaid, cheer up, love.
Worth a quick pint, but that's probably it.

This pub is my local pub very nice and very well presented staff always makes you feel very welcome nice to see happy faces and the fact it has a very good atmosphere

We called in here for a couple of drinks while in the area, friendly quick bar service, beer quality good, nice atmosphere.

Friendly service, food wasn't exceptional but serves it's purpose. Clean and tidy, even on a wet October afternoon after what I imagine was a busy half-term lunchtime.
There are definitely worse pubs about. Worth a try after a morning at Monkey World!

Beer's OK. Service was OK. Smoking at the bar(!!) Actually, smoking everywhere. Didn't get to the food, delays were too long. There seemed an awful lot of microwaves in the kitchen. "Food all day" but when there's a 45-60 miniute delay, it means you're not actually serving food. This at 18:00 on a Thursday, and they're "serving" 'till 21:30, it said on the door! If there was any competition, I'd go there, not here. If there was a no-smoking area, I didn't find it.

Fantastic food but the beer ain't cheap! I played 'Spot the Keeper from Monkey World' on my last visit but only scored one - see if you can beat that.

I can only assume that the two anonymous reviewers are the landlord and his wife. Having read the reviews thought that The Ship would be worth a visit. Go, by all means for the ale but stay away from the food, it really is terrible. It was very busy but I always fear places which have 40-odd dishes on the menu plus a specials board -- you have to ask yourself, how can they have so may different varients fresh every day? They don't -- the roast was processed and cooked many hours before it saw my plate.
