First impressions here weren’t good. There was loud music playing when I entered. But on getting to the bar the noise had subsided. For some reason the speakers are right over the entrance doorway ! [ But music was still not really necessary ]
Once ensconsed at the bar though, you are amid a plethora of paraphernalia. Beermats plastering the bar, t-shirts hanging from the ceiling, along with dried hops and a collection of hats. There is even a red phone box – which appears to be in working order.
7 or 8 beers on tap, including 3 (possibly more) of their own brewery beers. I tried the Bullet, which was a darkish beer. It was OK, but by no means the best I tried that day.
There was a board advertising a limited range of food – which appeared to be somewhat expensive. I’m not sure if this was the full menu though.
7/10 – just lacking a certain something

Actually a hotel with pub part accessed from side entrance. Lots of wood paneling, covered with film pictures (mostly old) with what little wall space remaining taken by pubby artefacts. Old red phone box in one corner. Food being served at tables when we arrived, which smelt OK. The barmaid was very friendly & helpful, offering us a three thirds taster of their home brews for £3.20. Sadly, none tasted great to us, a comment other BITE reviewers have made, to my palate an odd antiseptic flavour to a couple of them. There were other offerings on at the bar which we didn't try. If this place could improve its beer we’d gladly return, but Derby’s no place to be so-so on that front.

Lovely pub. Lots of bric a brac in here well worth a visit but the beer is not to my taste. Try a pedigree. Beer garden probably the best in Derby

The beers weren't great but is worth a visit to a fantastic building. We had Passchendael, Big Willy and Bullet which was the best of those. We ate and food was good.

Called in late on a Thursday night with the lady wife after watching Derbyshire Falcons. Needless to say we were pretty cold and looking forward to a decent pint having eschewed the over-priced fizz at the Racecourse Ground. The place was pretty empty and the bar person was a little tardy in getting up out of his seat to serve us. We bought pints of Mr.Grundy's Golden Dawn which was pleasant enough but lacked a little bite. The doors to the place were flung wide open and it felt a bit parky but maybe this was just the after effects of an evening spent viewing cricket. The decor is fascinating, from a collection of hats to photo's of movie stars there is plenty to look at including a red telephone box. Well worth a second visit.

A pub packed full of film memorabilia also boasting its own brewery and red telephone box. Mr Grundy's beers were fine particularly the Lord Kitchener ale, and were complimented by three or four guests. The brewer was happy to show us around and is planning to expand the brewey in due course. Easily accessible by bus from the town centre

A long walk from the city centre (yes I know there are buses!!) so I was glad of a seat and a beer. Tried two of their own beers and to me they tasted a bit "home-brewish" and in my view not the best of Derby's growing list of brewers. However, that is a personal choice and I did like the bar with all its bric-a-brac and pictures it was very pleasant. Not many customers on my visit and a bit of a food smell but nothing too overpowering. The TV was on showing the news with sound but again not dominating. I would go there again (via the bus) just to see if my views on the beer were a bit hasty.

Oh dear! The 1914 was a bit dubious yesterday but others tried were fine. Food was exvellent.

A bit of a disappointing visit to be honest. Good range of own-brew beers with a First Wortld War theme but the darkest one (1914) was very much on the turn. Staff agreed with the quality issue and - although surprised - took it seriously and thus no problem getting something else. The alternative (No Nan's Land) was OK though not the best. Hopefully this is just a short term issue with the brewing side. Pub itself has a traditional carpetted interior with plenty of memorabilia including a very smart red phone box. They do food, and it smelt like it - probably the largish works Christmas party in one corner!

Now incorporating their own micro-brewery and range of beers into the very good selection already available, gving a total of seven handpumps with local ales and three more with national brands. Large open bar area with dozens of black and white photos covering the wooden wall panelling.

I visited for the first time yesterday. The beer was very good but the food was disappointing. I had sausage, onions and 'creamy' mash. Perhaps there was some cream in there but the raw onions and large unmashed lumps of spud disguised it!

A bit of a walk from the City Centre unfortunately, but if you can manage it then it's worth making the effort to visit. The lady on the bar was very friendly and made me feel welcome.
