GONE - now another wretched branch of Tesco (March 2011)

Very civilised pub, spacious, nice staff, good beer. Very food orientated. No garden, and 3.80 for a pint of bitter - ouch.

I don't usually write reviews for restaurants, but I thought I should post a comment on how much I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at the new-look 'Salisbury' (not Salisbury Tavern anymore!).

It's completely changed since the refurb in November - at last, I might add, because it's previous incarnation had been going downhill quite frankly. We live in a nearby street and had long since stopped frequenting - but that's all changed now! The Salisbury is now a smart, but relaxed eating destination with seperate civilised bar area. All candles and soft-lighting, an openplan dining area - sharp, yet comfortable.

We took a couple of friends out for an evening meal a few nights ago and there a few things I'd like to say:

The wine list is out of this world - a range of styles and prices that really impressed my husband.
The staff were absolutely lovely - sincere, friendly and with a great sense of humour - they really made us feel at home.
The food is out of this world - a really interesting menu that removes the whole idea of starters and has a range of small plates for you to begin your meal - or snack upon in the bar I suppose. We had a Goats Cheese, Radish and Mint Salad and Smoked Mackeral with Eggy Bread that we thought was really tasty. I haven't had Eggy Bread since I was young and forgot how great it was! For our mains we had a Cep and Celeriac Gateaux which I thought was REALLY good, whilst my friend loved her perfectly cooked Rack of Lamb with Dauphinoise Potatoes. It was all topped off by the most amazing Honey Madelines of all time with Milk Chocolate and Baileys Truffle. Absolutely marvellous.

So there we go - WHAT a turnaround! It's only a matter of time before The Salisbury gains it's deserved spot at the top of Fulham's restaurants - it certainly deserves to be! Go and try it!

The Salisbury has been bought by the owners of the Spencer Arms in Putney (237 Lower Richmond Road) and has been closed for refurbishment. Hope they make a success of it - it offered a decent meeting place and good food off the beaten track.

Great pub, super staff. Highly recommended.

The Salisbury is one of the most pretentious pubs in the area. There is great opportunity to deliver a good service here with a large catchment area but it is not grasped. Rather it sees itself as beyond reproach and offers expensive fare for what is nothing more than average. Additionally, this is a pub and one of increasing numbers, that puts 'reserved' signs all over the place and thereby limits the room for the many as the few want to watch the rugby - complain at your peril. The restaurant is a waste of space and should be redeveloped.

Cool calm and collected sort of bar - open late at weekends.

Full of rugger types and attractive girls from CLC or the like (often with those small dogs like Paris Hilton).

Restaurant bit is often quiet so it should be changed to make more room for the bar area (the sister pub of this bar in Chelsea - The Admiral Cod has a michelin star for food so you know the foow in here is excellent too).

It all started with a Cottage Pie, as most good stories do.

On a reasonably sunny Sunday myself and a friend decided a spot of lunch was in order so we headed down to the Salisbury, which used to do fairly good food and not a bad pint.

After inspecting the menu I opted for the Cottage Pie at 9, which seemed quite reasonable (I know Ive lived in London too long when I think nearly a tenner for a Cottage Pie is reasonable, but there you go).

Anyhow, when it arrived I realised the menu was accurate, you really did get just a Cottage Pie no veg, nothing. To add insult to injury it was only about four inches in diameter and two inches thick. It would seem the owners of the Salisbury took advantage of their good reputation.

Other than the pie, the pub is actually half decent, though it does occupy something of a no-mans land between Fulham and Hammersmith.

* I should point out that the pie incident was some time ago, but its taking me this long to get over the shock.

very friendly staff - actually asked how my day was and had a conversation! bar nibbles are good, proper food looked expensive...interesting open roof in the restuarant.

The only time we ate here my wife ( who had one glass of wine) suffered from severe food poisoning. We contacted the pub to complain as we had spent about 70 and they could not have cared less. Potentially a good pub ruined by mediocre food and extremely unfriendly management. For the money I can think of many much better places in this part of London.

Frequented by pink shirt & chino wearing rugby types. Oh dear, how very tragic!

Seems trendy, but a place you can have a chat. Seems a good sort of place to watch rugby in. Also a good place to meet friends for a beer

Sister pub to the Admiral Codrington in South Kensington, excellent food in both restaurant and bar. Light and airy, comfortable and clean, newspapers available. Very pleasant.
