Doom Bar and Youngs plus one other were on the handles when we visited, my Youngs was superb. We had a scampi and a pie - both were delicious with ample portions. Service was friendly and speedy. A good atmosphere with some family gatherings evident

Good Beer.
Surprised Mike_L had a bad visit but I have also shied away from little gems after a poor first impression. Just bad luck maybe?
Went to this pub a couple of weeks ago for dinner and a pint. Two menus (cynical side of me always thinks badly of this); one 'a la carte', the other cheap and cheerful with the usual pub grub.
I went for the lamb rump and my better half had the haddock fish cakes. Both dishes were excellent and well cooked. The service was friendly and the Sharps Doom Bar was very good.
Rugby on the telly, warm relaxed pub, altogether a good atmosphere.

visted this pub haven recently moved to the area, and decided to treat the wife to a nice meal, we were greeted by friendly staff and informed about the new menu that had just come on, found the staff to be extremely helpful, and the food very good, drinks were fairly expensive but the ale was well kept and my wife enjoyed the wine. we will definatly be back.

Good Beer, but Food was a let-down.
Recently visited this place. Had a pint of Sharps Doom Bar which was well kept , other colleagues have commented favourably on the choice of beer.
The new decor is a great improvement since the refurnishment.
However the food was a real disappointment. We had hoped to try the Belly Pork & the Spare Ribs but both were sold out at 7:30 on a Saturday Night. That suggests to me that somebody isn';t very good at ordering enough ingredients to last a weekend.
I settled for a Burger at 8.50 (cheese & bacon were an extra 75p each which seemed rather steep) & my wife ordered the Lamb Massaman curry at 9.50.
The curry arrived with Cashew nuts included despite no mention of that on the menu. She wouldn;t have ordered if she knew about this & this would be completely unacceptable if you had a nut allergy.
The rest of the curry was 'fairly flavourless' & was notable for the lack of meat included. There were only 4 or 5 chunks of meat and this was very stringy. NO accompaniments other than a small portion of plain rice. No naan braed, poppadums or pickles either.
My burger arrived on a very anaemic looking bun, which had not been toasted or cooked in any way. This just tasted like plain white bread.
The burger itself was only OK - except that the so-called chilli relish looked & tasted more like Heinz Ketchup!
I think they could have done so much more very easily, with better ingredients and they should also provide more details on their menu.
Other pubs in the area provide much better value for similar prices or less (such as Prince of Wales in Esher or Swan in Claygate)
Didn't stay for pudding , not surprisingly, Mike

Fanatastic local pub. Last time I visited they had just launched their new brasserie menu, the manager mentioned it changed on a monthly basis. Lots of exciting options like mussels, belly or pork, paella, and was quite tempted by the bar menu, which I have tried previously, the benefit being the 20% loyalty discount.
Sometimes can be quite noisy with children, but great outdoor space for them during the summer, appears they have new furniture too. Looking forward to a pint in the beer garden in the sun soon.

Sharps Doom Bar, Shepherd Neame Spitfire and Youngs Ordinary, in good condition. Pub is a bit of a restaurant in parts but no problem. Live music ("Genie in the Jukebox" + guest) last night was good.

in October The DItton opened Longs Brasserie which is to the left of the pub! what an amazing menu!! great service - really friendly and down to earth staff that can hold a good conversation, but know when to leave!! i have booked in for Long's xmas menu which looks very satisfying! 15 for two courses or 3 for 19! i can recommend this establishment to PTA groups NCT groups work do organisers family get togethers, friends ANYONE WHO WANTS GOOD FOOD AT A GOOD PRICE!

The biggest problem with new pubs is setting the scene to encourage a specific clientele and this pub doesnt seem to know what it wants. The Dittons interior conforms to a modern style while still upholding traditional features, however the drink prices dont reflect those of a local homely pub as they match those found in a chic London bar, and this pub definitely isnt.
Although the staff are friendly and the service excellent, it does little to cover The Dittons lack of atmosphere, due mainly to many local customers having been driven away by high prices and resulting in a mostly deserted bar and restaurant. The wine list provides the perfect example of unnecessary overpricing, consisting on many standard wines found for 4 at the local supermarket; being sold for 14 and upwards.
The food is The Dittons only saving grace, with many well presented and tasty pub classics, but sitting to eat these dishes in the poorly maintained garden, the ever empty restaurant or the utterly lifeless bar, destroys every intention of the pub providing an up market and enjoyable experience.

WOW what a transformation! staff were so friendly - both staff and management had time to stop and chat, making the whole experience very pleasant. you can tell the food was freshly and 'real'!!! the drinks were priced about right for the area we felt, shot n mixer at about 3.25 i think!
we have made plans to go back throughout the summer with family and friends - highly recommended to couples with young children as the garden is lovely (& enclosed!!!)

A revisit to the Ditton and I have to revise my earlier opinion of the Ditton. 3 beers on, Youngs Ordinary, Sharps Doom Bar and Hop Back Summer Lightning all at a reasonable (for the area) 3-20 and all were very nice. The landlord and staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful and it was a very nice place to have a drop of well-kept beer on a hot Sunday afternoon.

visted thhi spub meeting up with old friends in the area, recieved a warm welcome an arrival and found the staff to be extremely freindly, good selection of ales, hooky bitter, bombadier and sharps ipa, great food two meals for ten pounds was great value for a fresh homecooked dinner, would recommend this to anyone that appreciates good food, and freindly surroundings

Pub with a ponced up feel and strange pricing, 3.23 for Youngs Ordinary. Also had Bombardier and Ruddles Best although one of our group had to return it. Youngs was good. In middle of nowhere and not worth going out of the way for.

Two ales on (Youngs Ordinary and Wells Bombardier), decor a bit un-traditional; the website (which could do with a bit of TLC itself, though mercifully there is no Flash) describes it as a 'restaurant pub' which is a bit of a pointer to the kind of style there is within.

Oh dear! What has happened? I've been away on business and was looking forward to coming back here after the hard work the new owners and management had put in to improve the place, and they had really improved it. Now its all gone wrong. Used to have a great atmosphere with friendly staff and manager (Rob I think his name was) Now we have the owners on the bar (pleasant enough people) but they are clearly not used to running a pub, and no one seems to be in controll. The Ales used to be top class, now average, the food is still very good but possibly a bit pricey for todays market. The service used to be fantastic, now average would be kind! I understand that times are tough and cuts need to be made, but ripping the heart and soul out of the place (the management and staff) is surely not the way to go about it.

Rather pricey beer. I have not eaten there but my brother-in-law & his wife have, and they think that the food offers poor value for money.

this could be a realy nice pub! just very slow!

Mitchell, she was cleaning glasses, we were in the restaurant right in front of her. She had to pass us to serve in the bar area which she was doing all the time. If she couldn't serve coffee how come she served us our meal in the restaurant. Helpful staff needed who want to help customers .. you need us more than we need you - Laziness doesn't get tips !

In response to dittonlass. I'm sorry you felt our customer service was not very good. However, if you were in the bar area we do not generally serve customers at their tables in this part of the pub. So, the barmaid was actually exceeding the service requirments by offering this service in this area. I have spoken to the member of staff working and she informs me that she was actually dealiing with something else at the time so couldn't offer a table service.

Had lunch in there today, very nice food .. they have refurbished to a very high standard, and the car park was quite full, although in the evenings they are not too busy, and no atmosphere, which is a shame. I think it takes time for word to go around that they are under new management. However my husband and I felt the barmaid, who was serving people at tables as well as behind the bar, should not have commented "If you want a cappucino (which we had called out to order while she was at the bar) please come up to the bar to order it". We had just had a meal, and sat next to the bar. Not good customer relations ..... Our rating would have been 10 if it were not for this comment.

The Ditton has undergone extensive refurbishment and has a great upbeat feel to it, open and spacious. The bar staff were welcoming and very helpful when we asked for advice on wine selection. We were very fortunate with the weather and were able to enjoy the fabulous garden space (there's a fenced off kiddies area too). Plenty of delicious dishes on offer made it hard to choose mand whilst our order took a while, we were kept informed along the way and when it came, it was definitely worth waiting for! A perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon with friends! Highly recommended!
