The beer was excellent on a recent visit. Standards of food have however slipped. Acceptable, but not in my view as good as previously. Steak was smaller and less tender, and service very slow.
Still worth 7 out of 10, but previously was worth 9

It's been almost 3 years since my last visit, when I found it closed. But I was determined to get here whilst in Minehead this time. It's certainly been well refurbished and still enjoys a lovely location next to the harbour. The only drawback is the restrictive Marstons range - Ringwood Best, Boon Doggle & Old Thumber & Wychwood Hobgoblin. It's 10 minutes walk from the station along the seafront. Probably the best pub in the town.

Just had one of our jollies in Minehead, we missed this pub last time so headed straight for it when we arrived and boy are we glad we did, this is a great pub and worth the short walk to from the town centre, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, not the best selection of beers, but enough to keep us there for a few hours

Recently revisited whilst down for the West Somerset Railway Steam Gala. It has been very tastefully tidied up and upgraded and is now well worth a visit. Ales in good nick ( Ringwood, due to the Marston's connection, and Otter ).

Totally changed since I was last here almost 40 years ago for my Geography field trip. It was called the Quay Hotel then. I wish people would leave things alone!!!!! More of a restaurant now, with a sizeable area left for drinkers by the front door. Beer range mainly from Ringwood. Not really a favourite of mine. However nice welcome and the food was pleasant. If a little on the expensive side for Minehead

Keep up the GOOD Work. Good ale Clean tidy good staff the new owners have the right ideal

10 out of 10!!! Wow! We were so impressed by the fact that it's a 'proper pub with good beer' but exceptional food at reasonable prices. We were in town for the day. We don't know the area, but we love our food, good beer and wine. Service is especially important to us but its not on the top of most pubs and restaurants agenda - so we were surprised after walking through Minehead for 'fish and chips' to discover 'The Old Ship Aground', its great service and top notch grub. We'd missed lunch, but were amazed when landlord Julian Abraham presented us with a delectable menu of 'Bar Snacks'. We chose, deep fried, crispy whitebait which was served on a bed of leaves and a light dressing, a bucket of crispy chips served with mayo and a bowl of warm cider and mushroom and mustard grain creamy dip with warm crispy bread. ALL served at the same time, generous portions, hot and served to our table by 2 smiling waitresses. An excellent selection of beer was available. My partner had a very well kept pint of Marston's Pedigree and I was recommend a very pleasing glass of sauvignon. White, crisp and cold!! Imagine that! A glass of cold, white wine!! (makes a change from the usual warm glass of acid served in most pubs). We were seated by the fireside, surrounded by locals at the bar. With the view, looking out to the sea, was a perfect pit stop. We would've stayed longer, but had to catch the last train. Congratulations Julian. You looked the part. Acted the part, with care and concern and we wish you luck with your pub. Your waitresses are a credit and so is your food. I guess it says it all when the locals frequent your pub. We'll be back. Good luck!

Re-opened on Friday 23rd. 3 beers available yesterday. Ringwood Bitter, Cumberland Bitter and a n other (bad memory)!. New owner said that there is still work to be done, especially to the kitchen, but wanted to open in time for the bank holiday. Beer quality good and the whole place friendly as it used to be,
Still closed at present. I read somewhere that the new owners are looking at a September re-opening. We parked up outside here last weekend and it seems to need a lot of work done to it, especially the outside. Nice location overlooking the Bristol Channel and next to the lifeboat station though.
Note that this pub was fairly briefly closed and boarded up, pending a sale by auction. The freehold has now been sold, not certain when it will reopen.
Therefore PLEASE BE AWARE that previous reviews may no longer be accurate. I expect to visit next week.

Nice pub with outside seatings and lots of indoor space as well. Tasteful food to reasonable prices. And the smoked mackerell with new potatos was delicious. Helpfull staff made you feel welcome. Average selection of real ales.
Thought this place was a bit of a disapointment. Not sure whether it was it's isolated position or it's run down interior, it just did'nt do it for me.
5/10

Rather boring selection of ales available - Courage, Tribute, Ruddles and Exmoor Gold. The Gold was fine but nothing special. A nice location to sit outside - but not yesterday in the rain!
Fantastic pub! Great value food and excellent beer. Very friendly staff - we were 45 minutes late for our booking and they were happy to hold it for us and very pleasant about us being late! So good that we went back the next day!
Nice traditional pub (mock beams) with nautical feel by the old harbour. When I visited this week there was Courage, Exmoor Gold, Tribute and Ruddles on. The Tribute was spot on. Served by good bar staff too. Also Thatchers ciders on pump. Pub grub available and quite busy for 5pm on a Thursday. I expect it will be busy over the summer as there is B&B on offer and this is a good location for chilling.
Decent boozer in a lovely harbour location. Ale selection seemed to be made up of the typical Otter Ale, Tribute and Exmoor Gold. I think that has draught Bass as well but didnt try that one. Food looked decent enough however the Exmoor was not the best and a bit foamy. Definitely one of the better pubs in Minehead if not the best
Best pub I've visited in Minehead by far. Excellent and friendly service, all beers my party of 5 tried were in beautiful condition and the food we ate good value and a high standard. 9/10.
called in on Friday morning Exmoor Gold good nice coal fire warm welcome will call again.
A pleasant walk along the sea wall brings you to this nicely situated pub by the Marina. The beer range is somewhat limited, but it was the best pint of Exmoor Gold of the night, if that helps. It has been added to the 2011 GBG aparently. Inside is an interesting mix of seafaring and local information momentos. Nicely buzzing on a Thursday night with drinkers and diners, the Smoked Mackeral was excellent. I liked this pub and would like it more with a better beer selection.
Pleasant enough place and nice to sit out front when it's warm - as opposed to rather windy yesterday!
4 beers on but not really a good selection - Dartmoor, Tribute, Courage Best and Ruddles. Dartmoor, 2.70, was very drinkable. Would be a much better place with an improved selection of ales.
Finally got here - always seemed to be too far along the seafront before! Glad I made the effort. 4 well-kept ales and good value food. Landlady and staff very welcoming. Some of visitors (grockles we call them) a bit noisy, but that's Minehead for you. Will revisit.
Very friendly 'real' pub. Nice real fire on a sunday. make sure I call back whenever I'm in town for the good range of real ales.
Visited while in Minehead for the beer festival recently, and enjoyed the 2 ales available, even though we were about the only ones in soon after opening time.
It is a shame this pub reflects the pub conversions/destruction of the '70s - the furniture and "beams" seemed to be the originals from that period. There were four real ales but the pint I had was instantly forgetable which I did! The staff appeared dis-interested so we too rapidly lost interest. It was only when we visited the toilets that we realised that there was a cosier part of the pub and that the food looked a bit more wholesome than the shabby menu suggested.
It would suggest that "front of house" needs a refit and a kick up some bottoms so they don't put people off, and they can take advantage of its excellent location.
Not bad for Minehead. If for some reason you find yourself in Minehead, e.g. you've upset an angry and vengeful god: you may as well walk out to this place and have a beer.
Well worth a visit. Pleasant promenade from the town deters the kids and works up a thirst. My favourite in this town.
Good pub in pleasant setting by the quay and far enough away from the main drag to put of the majority of tourists. Beers well kept.

Good choice of well kept real ales, extra cold lager and guiness, large outdoor seating area is very popular. Real fire (though not much other heating!) Pool table.Dogs allowed. Adjacent to the harbour and therefore popular with boating types. Recomended.
