This is a fabulous pub, in an ideal location. The food is delicious, and the vegetarian choice is AMAZING :>) The crpes are the best meal we've had in a very long time, and the potatoes served with them are just as yummy :>) The service was excellent as well, served by efficient , and very busy staff :>) Well done, a great pub, with exceptional food for vegetarians :>)

This place is terrible - don't waste your time or money, go to The Watermill instead.

Despite booking a table days in advance and ordering within a few minutes of our arrival, one our later we had still not received our food. Enquiries with the waitress revealed that there were a further five orders to be dealt with before the CHef cooked our order - another 30 to 45 minutes. Others in the restaurant were similarly annoyed having to wait so long. We left hungry and annoyed. Avoid this pub at all costs.

When visiting family in the area we always go into this pub for a meal at some point. Went in there on Easter Sunday evening and there were a good few people in there. The food was excellent, the staff are very welcoming, service was brilliant and the toilets are always spotless. What more can you say about this pub? Apart from the location on the estuary which is stunning! If you're down this way pencil this place in, especially if you're a family looking for a nice evening meal.

We were a bit worried about staying here judging by previous comments. My family and I just spent Easter in the place and it was wonderful. The food was great, reasonably priced for Pub-Grub and served in a timely fashion even though there must have been more than 100 there on Good Friday evening.Beer at 2.50 a pint is not to be sniffed at either.Staff were more than friendly and the rooms obviously had a very recent facelift as the bathrooms were new and there was still the faint smell of paint.
We certainly will be back

well there is no change there then re; persons visit 26th dec,08. what a crying shame for visitors and the local people that once had respect for this unturned venue . it really doesnt take long to go overnight does it? ken and ann please come back to the quay and show them how you really treated your customers expecially sunday lunch times, where people where actually qqqqqqqqqng to get their sunday lunch. now theres space for all.

Well, we visited once more just to see if things had changed - I'm sorry to say that they seem even worse than previously. The beer is awful and the food not worth trying. I'm coming to the conclusion that the real owners, whoever they be, want to run the place down to sell it off for housing (great location ovberlooking the Hayle estuary) as it is now sandwiched loosely between two other housing developments. What a shame if this were to be true, as it used to be a great pleasure to eat here, perhaps enjoying a meal or a pint looking out over such an important wildlife site. In any case, avoid this rude and careless pub at all costs.

i totally agree with all comments . however, after a lot of time and effort preparing our very first xmas in cornwall(please note we have always been regular visitors/customers to to the quay. the xmas meal dec,2007 was to say the least(disgusting) after perservering to manage the so called (parsnip soup) we were waited on by a BOY in shorts( the xmas lunch arrived to be servced with(well i hardly recognised it) sirloin of beef) as touch as old boots, we summoned the (new manager(to be told by him "he likes it like that) as being previously aware he had no experience of catering we had been told by the staff) we had our monies back, but what a disaster. we were also told that a pension said it was the best lunch he had tasted) that was turkey) and what had this poor man been eating before) what a shame this lovely customer focused restaurant has taken a turn for the worse. we had plan (b) baked potatoes and that was fantastic) ken and ann where the previous owners. and what a hard act to follow. not impressed and certainly have not returned. are there any customers left. by the way we would strongly reccommend the (lamb and flag) there is certainly no fear of competition from the quay and there is no need for the staff at the lamb and flag to ask)is everything alright) we are frequent visitors there and booking is certainly adviseable) speaks for itself lunchtimne or evening. you will be sure of a very warm welcome. no comments on the managers attitude. no wonder the good staff have left.

Tried this pub for the first time, and quite possibly the last. Actual pub doesn't seem too bad, although it feels more like a restaurant than a proper pub. Nice tables outside and a decent feel to the place.
Was served by the manager who did not interrupt his conversation with someone else the whole time he served me, just took my note, gave me my change etc., and was not overly personable.
Carlsberg was fine, Betty Stogg's was rancid. Tasted like vinegar and had sediment in the bottom, avoid it unless you fancy a day off work via gut rot!
Never ate, but the sweets we saw looked good, but the mains looked average at best.
There are much nicer pubs with excellent food within walking distance from the Old Quay House, therefore I shall more than likely avoid it in future. Lovely area and nice setting for a pub - shame about the staff and beer.

This is a local pub to my parents, and I have visited many times over the years. It is very disappointing that the standard seems to have slipped recently and that the manager comes across as an oaf. On our most recent visit, we waited 45 minutes for our food, then were told that it would be another 10 minutes. It was the height of summer, and this is a tourist area, but the manager wasn't sympathetic, saying in effect that I should have known that it was busy. Another staff member said that they were short-staffed in the kitchen, and we would have appreciated that honesty from the manager, who ultimately was threatening to us. We left quickly, leaving our name and address, but disappointingly ending up with fish and chips locally. For the sake of completeness, the beer (Sharpes) wasn't great and the evidence of our visit suggests that the place now seems to have targeted a lower part of the market - plastic menus, etc. It is always disappointing when a trusted favourite goes downhill and I will be writing to the owner to find out why. My parents are local and in their 80s, and it is a disgrace that the manager chose to treat us this way - all it needed was an apology and we would have been more sympathetic.
