Durham Ox, Shrewleyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
A disappointing visit real, a restaurant trying to be a pub. lots of seating at the front and rear for drinking only, but if you just pop in for a casual meal, forget it, there is very little seating for meals. Also for a standard Sunday roast, it was pricey compared other pubs and not presented that well.

A Greene King pub/restaurant serving the usual selection of keg IPA, Speckled Hen and Abbot. Nothing to recommend it on the ale front. The large bar area is smart with comfy sofas and high stools and the separate dining area looked equally smart. Has it own website at durhamox.net

Driving past we noticed that the Durham was under new ownership which can only be a good thing. The bar area was bright and airy and the bar staff friendly and welcoming. One of the new owners introduced herself to us, shes new to the business but was honest and very charming. The children all went out in the back garden to let some steam off so we took advantage and had a relaxing drink on the decking at the front. Menu looked good so we will definately be back for a longer visit.

A pub trying to be a restaurant, but for all that, the food was nice and the ale was on top form. Too expensive, though.

Good choice of wine and beers. Menu needs a little work on improving the quality/consistancy of dishes.

We met a group of friends for lunch at this pub yesterday and it was extremely disappointing. The menu had just one main course vegetarian option and when a vegetarian member of our party asked if there were other options, she was advised that there were not. The food is very over priced, as is the wine. We sat outside and the covered eating area was shabby with permanent drips dripping on to us from the hard plastic roof covering as we ate. The service was mixed but largely poor, with several mistakes made in taking and delivering our orders. We thought the saving grace might be the bouncy castle on site for the children but this turned out to be unuseable as it was swimming in rain water and covered in leaf and branch droppings from the overhanging trees. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone and we certainly won't be returning.
