Seven years since I reviewed the place - time to revisit. The ale was sour and the bar staff didn't seem bothered. They were more interested in short-changing. Pay with a twenty quid note; get the change from a tenner... Will be another seven years until I go back...

Great biker friendly pub recently refurbished, beer now much better and more choice than before, seems to be becoming a top music venue with some great acts, good jukebox, not very busy daytime due no doubt to the resident pub bore who voices her opinions very loudly for all to enjoy. Worth a visit.

I lived in Hastings for about a year and I loved going to this place - genuine people, fun, a bit grimy but maybe that's how I like it!
Good bands and love the jukebox - full of some good heavy stuff and it was old!!!
I miss this place and when I come back n visit, this will be one of my first places to go to!

The barmen are nice and the music is great. a historic little BIKERS pub with many tales to tell. The people are lovely too, don't be fooled by their leathers. They make you feel welcome and are great for conversation. Quite a safe pub too as its in the town center and the place is thriving on bank holidays and events such as may day and bonfire night.

Disappointing live music pub, been there a couple of times now on a Saturday night and while the music and atmosphere is OK, the beer is pretty rough. Tried an indifferent and warm Harvey's before noticing that the locals were drinking Nukie Brown probably because it was the only thing cold. Despite appearances, you are probably safer here than in one of the town centre pubs. Generally a good crowd with no alcopop teens out to get smashed and start trouble.

Great place for rock music, live and via the jukebox, but not the place for a relaxing pint. It is pretty grimy looking these days, we were a bit wary of sitting down in the rather dingy armchairs, but the beer is OK, and it's far better than the other dire outlets in Hastings town centre.

Well, it's got a reputation, but it's not a bad place to go for a pint. The town has certainly got a lot worse places for a beer. the ale's OK, and the locals don't bite (even though many look as though they might)

When you enter the Carlisle it can sometimes feel a bit like The Titty Twister in FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, bar the strippers, of course, although the jury is out on the neck-biting. Drinks are poor but decent live music and can be an OK night. You need a bit of front, though.

Great music venue, most of the customers are bikers and rough as a badgers arse but the atmosphere rocks, literally thousands turn up here every bank holiday, not for the faint hearted.
|
OK pub but agree with the "drink from bottles" statements below. I had a pint of something brown and did not dare finish it for fear of ending up on the toilet all night.
If loud music and certain amount of dank and darkness are your things then you will love it here. I had a great evening. Pretty sure someone got murdered here many years ago which is pretty cool too. Well not for them obviously but you know what I mean.

I am a bit surprised to see this pub in the top 10? dont get me wrong, it is a good pub for bikers and loud rock music with some excellent tribute bands, but if thats not your thing then it could be a culture shock.
|
Well you'd only go into this pub really if you knew what you were letting yourself in for... it's clearly not a family pub and it's clientel are clearly missing a few brain cells, but it's all a part of the places charm and it's good for one thing - a noisy night out.
Don't drink the beer from the taps, you'll regret it. But do go and see a band down there, experience the atmosphere and generally revel in the fact that you probably could do better than this if you tried to run a pub. It's actually very entertaining... 'only in Hastings'.

people was ok. Nice pool tables. Hated the juke box, not my kind of headache needed rick astley. lol joking but all heavy music, needed a mix. Hated the beer, was ill the day after.
Wont be going back in there again :P

Known by locals as the bikers pub, christ where else can you get good music, pint of lager,JD & coke for 4.30. Also if any one esle is a fat bastard like me, try the breakfast at the Pig along the road for 4, you will need a big bike to carry you afterwards, good bar as well.

This is my local. A dark, dirty, grimy sweat hole. Fantastic!! Ace jukebox, lovely friendly staff, but rank toilets. This is the kind of pub you can bring your kids and your dog to, and this is the only pub as a female I feel comfortable enough to sit in all day with a paper, knowing I won't be pounced on by saddoes.
|
great for rock bands, interesting people get in here(a sort of bikers pub) the beer is RUBBISH,even with the realtively new owners.only drink out of bottles(if you like beer that is) you have been warned.
|
Love the jukebox downstairs, but could have done with the band coming on stage a little earlier than 10:30pm on Saturday night!
|
Ok it may not be the cleanest or lightest pub in town but you wont find a pub with better live music or atmosphere. beer is good and not too pricy either. i recomend it!

On the seafront in sunny Hastings - the best pub around for decent live music. Bands every Fri, Sat & B/H. Good selection of beers.
