One of the most attractive pubs I've been in, though not really a place for the non-diner. Had just received a cider award from local CAMRA branch, and the perry from the fridge I tried was absolutely gorgeous, but can't therefore comment on beer. Will go back and eat.

Very quaint village pub. Intended to eat but hadn't booked so couldn't get in. Had 4 local real ales including Wylam, Northumbrian Blonde and Red Ellen (after Ellen Wilkinson the MP for Jarrow during the Jarrow Crusade) from the Jarrow Brewery which was very good. Found the staff to be friendly and welcoming.

A quaint looking kind of place though I did get the feeling that if you weren't a diner or a local then as a casual visiting drinker you weren't really too welcome (that table is reserved etc). It looks the part and the ale (Top Tup) was excellent but it feels more like a dining establishment than a pub.

Had lunch here on Saturday 26th May 2012. Four beers on from North East breweries. Good food, though a tad expensive. Had the High House Farm Pullet Please @ 3.7% which was fine. I can imagine this place would get very busy, but was just right when we were there. Very handy for the Weardale railway.

Somebody needs to show the staff how to keep beer.

This excellent pub stocks 4 regularly changing real ales mainly from local breweries such as Allendale, Wylam and Consett. Real cider is also stocked. The interior is worth seeing and has been used for a variety of TV locations. There are coal fires in each of the 3 rooms. The landlord is a professional photographer and a variety of his work is displayed around the walls. Best to book for meals. It is only a short walk from Frosterley station on the weardale railway. Look out for Frosterley marble. It is a pity that a keg lager font has been introduced.

Visited this Good Beer Guide pub in July 07 as it was a true free house and had removed keg beers. Enjoyed beers from Consett and Fenland breweries. Went into the outside area as it was packed inside.
