We turned up here after a long walk and having seen the website and expecting a gastropub which would look askance at our muddy boots, we were pleasantly surprised.
Pub was quite busy at lunchtime with, I suspect, staff from nearby MacLarens. Three cask ales available, plenty of seating and the staff were friendly - one even enlightening us old codgers about the intricacies of eyebrow threading.
Food was good, although as expected it was a little pricey. Knew that before we went in.
We all agreed that we'd happily visit here again.

I have had many pleasant evenings at the sands, Carla and the team have ensured my last two birthdays were nights to be remembered and cherished, the professionalism and service to myself and my guests was exceptional...
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, they also have accommodation which is of a very high standard, and reasonable priced nothing is to much trouble and the staff always go the extra mile in taking care of everyone's needs, one of my guest is celiac, and at very short notice a meal was prepared for her..truly excellent !!!
The Sands is a very friendly pub - thanks to Carla & her staff - particularly Olly & Sophie. The wines are excellent as is the food. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Definately worth a visit
They do do a good Sunday Roast, but i would agree that it is a little expensive. The place looks nice too, but i found the atmosphere a little lacking. I would go back, but the main thing that puts me off the the price.
Had lunch at Sands the other day, I would call it a Gastro Pub. The prawn cocktail starter was a new approach to an old favourite, and was quite good. My 'mains' of Steak Bernaise for 14-50 was a disapointing, chewy, stringy, cheap cut, which if I had been at home would have been fed to the dog. Don't think I'll be going back!
I have visited here on 2 occasions the first one for food which was far from pub food, it is a little on the posh side for me but very nice all the same and also a little expensive, certainly good for a special occasion. On a second visit it was just for drinks and was very impressed that the guy behind the bar remembered what drinks we had ordered earlier in the eve, and yes it was very busy in there, little things like that go along way,the service was very good
Visited Sands for a lunchtime business meeting recently and really enjoyed it. Friendly staff, good beer and an excellent choice of both snack lunches and more interesting meals. Definitely worth a try and apparently they do a good Sunday lunch too.

We had a lovely dinner at Sands yesterday. Very friendly service, delicious food and wine, lovely freshly baked bread. The portions are not the pub size, but very adequate. Not the cheapest of places, but not too bad 2 course dinner for two with two large glasses of wine - 39.50. Good for special occasions.

having been away a while i was dismayed to find the bleak which had been the best venue for music in the area full of snooty snobs who didnt like my bikers jacket not very welcoming and im reliably informed the bands are nowhere near as good this place used to jump on monday nights id rather jump in a vat of xxxx
We went back to the Bleak(call it what you like...it will always be the Bleak) for the first time since Joe and Chris left.Bad Influence were playing and had a good crowd there, lots of old faces. Not alot of food being served and if the management read this then drop the food on a monday night and give us back our music night.....you'll make shit loads of money! The place lacks character and has lost the pub feeling.
I went to this pub on a Friday night for something to eat and a beer. I ordered the sea bass 16.95 and was a bit disappointed, not with the quality - just with the quantity. I was still hungry after I left. In future I think I'll stick to the Hunters Lodge - I had a very tasty sea food platter for under 7.00 just two days earlier.
Turned up on Monday to check out the live band and, although the band was excellent, was disappointed that the pub appears to have stayed with the original theme of blues bands. We had heard that the new owners would be trying out new/different types of bands - what happened?

Excellent restaurant food - reserve a table though and ask for it in the enclosed area on the right though the main entrance. Drinks are OK, not sure about the beer, I've only had one pint of Amstel but it was fine. We go there to eat - there is an excellent choice of wines and the food, although limited, is of top quality. Less choice means your dish is better prepared. Not the cheapest place but well worth the money - well done!

The Bleak House or the pub formerly known as, will be reopening on Monday 7th March as "SANDS" They've done a pretty good job in doing it up, it looks the NUTS. They will continue to concentrate on live bands and who knows I may even get a shot at DJ'ing there, the food will be better and the Lager, Ale, Wine etc... shouldn't dissapoint. I know I'll be there Monday night for a pint or two, it'll make a change from the Sidewalk. See you there Grundy! Mine's a Stella.
its being revamped and will be reopening end feb-ish. promises to be the best boozer in woking
can someone tell us wots ' happenin'? I hear rumours it's getting knocked down/turned into flats/ just being refurbed. Would be nice to know even if it's bad news

Well its shut now and it looks like they are doing it up thank god because it was dire. If they put some character into it and do a good job then i reckon that it will do well. We need decent pub food and real ales round here...

Festivel was a great weekend with some good live band and some very average solo singers. A lot of hard work went into putting this event on and the local regulars should have supported it better. Be aware the pot girls who come round collecting for the bands may demand a snog!! A good Monday night out
