Popped into this pub with about 15 friends and family last Saturday lunchtime. What a haven from the cold hail and rain outside. It was warm and welcoming with two roaring fires. The friendly staff were unfazed by wet adults, children and dogs. We took over half the pub and drank excellent beer. Cracking cosy littel pub with good selection of real ales.

An excellent evening entertainment, with a real ale festival and a music festival both going on. The place was busy, with bands playing both inside and out. I'm not sure if this music was a regular event or just something for the jubilee celebrations, but an great night was had by all. Ales good but could be better.

It was totally packed when we visited this pub. So busy in fact we had to go outside on a winters day! I don't like a pub this busy but it must be doing something right. Can't comment on the inside as i could'nt see it.

Friendly (to humans and dogs) pub with pleasant staff, good grub and a rare selection of bottled beers to supplement the local Exmoor ales on draught. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Visited early on a Saturday evening. It's quite small inside and things were not improved by the number of reserved tables - taking up about 3/4 of the available seating. Luckily we found a table before it got too busy. 3 beers were chalked up on the blackboard behind the bar but only 2 were available (why didn't they rub out the one which wasn't on?) The food was very good - my benchmark meal for testing the quality of basic pub food (ham egg & chips) was superb - ham was home cooked and hand sliced, free range eggs, chips thick and chunky. If you don't like real ale they have a range of the more common bottled Belgian beers and also Leffe blonde on draught, which makes a pleasant change. If you plan on eating, particularly on a Saturday, I'd suggest ringing and reserving a table.

Popular riverside pub by the bridge (you don't say) in Dulverton. Exmoor Ales available (Ale and Gold) also Otter Ale, but, surprisingly and most welcome, there was no Doom Bar; The Exmoor Ale was fine if a little cold. Busy Saturday lunchtime crowd; tasty cider chutney in my cheese baguette.

Had a very pleasant lunch in the pub on a cold January Day. Good warm fires, very friendly staff and very reasonably priced and hearty food with a good choice to suit all tastes. Beer was well kept and good selection. Very Good and generous ploughmans and good hot curry - we were 5 very happy customers..... make that 6 as Lottie the dog loved the fire!

Called in Friday Lunch time for a quick bite. Food not bad bit pricey. Exmoor Ale Good. Nice warm wood burning stove.

Very nice surroundings, if a trifle dark. Food good but a limited menu when I visited in middle of August 2010, no pies for the whole week! (Supposedly famous for them! Unfortunately didn't have the chance to sample.)If you want to eat here on a friday or saturday, reserve your place, as with only 7 tables indoors it soon fills up! Midweek the place is nearly empty, strange as it was in the middle of the tourist season. Beer and Cider good, can't comment on the previous observations of it being too cold as I prefer it this way, sorry. The only criticisms being that for the whole week I frequented it, nearly every night, the landlord was never behind the bar, the Landlady only once for about 10 minutes. She does do a very good quiz though! The barstaff were young, pleasant, but a bit disinterested, just waiting to close up for the night. Could be so much better with a few tweaks, but on the whole, quite pleasant

We ate here for two evenings when staying locally. The staff are very friendly, and there's a good ambience. The food is pretty good overall, although my wife found the lasagne bland one evening. You may need to book. There's no loud music, so you can talk.

Very convenient if you're staying at the caravan site just down the road, as we were. Good pint of Otter (not too cold) and good home cooking too. Locals very friendly, as are the bar staff, who try really hard -- eg they out a lot of effort into a quiz evening, which deserved more participants than it got. Overall a fine pub.

nice and quiet, with friendly landlady, the ales had an ok selection but in my mind was slightly to cold. food was nice but very expensive for what it was as you to buy add ons e.g chip were extra. but nice pub all the same

The Exmoor Ales were different from those at the Lion and I always preferred the Gold anyway. Tried the Otter and found it excellent - and not too cold but perhaps it was the first out the pump. Bar was a bit dark and cramped but very pleasant staff. Best place in Dulverton for a pint in my mind.

Lovely pub, always a really friendly atmosphere and the food is really good pub food - certainly not ordinary! Regarding the beer the landlord Kenny tells me that the real ale can be slightly cold due to the long distance (underground) from the cellar to the bar, a system set up by the previous owners which one day he hopes to resolve. The beer is always superb anyway - I know i've sunk many a pint of Otter here! We love this pub and always visit it when in Dulverton.

About the best palce to eat if you're in Dulverton, but if it's beer you're after, you would be better of at woods.

Nice pub and a convivial atmosphere. The food looked fairly ordinary, pies, burgers etc. Nice fire and comfy sofa etc. But spit is spot on. The ales are just too cold. I sat by the fire and by the time I had almost finished my pint it had reached room temp and tasted pretty good too. Adjust that thermostat please

This is an excellent pub in a great location.
Good choice of ales including Otter Ale & Exmoor Brewery. Food was nice and served reasonably quickly.
If you're a rambler or cyclist going through Exmoor then I do recommend a stop here to quench your thirst.

Cant agree with 'spit'. the beer here is always excellent and nowhere near lager temperature. The owners are always extremely friendly and are nearly always behind the bar! Great pub.

This place has many of the attributes of a great pub, but falls just short in a couple of key areas. Comfy, cosy, roaring fire in winter, interesting food selection specialising in local suppliers, reasonable real ale range and decent wines. Nice atmosphere, decent and unobtrusive piped music, occasional live music, friendly locals and staff. Good location by the bridge over the Barle river. The biggest let-down however is the real ale quality - occasionally in poor condition, but *always* freezing cold. Can be sub-lager-temperature. Lack of knowledge? Lack of care? Don't know - the owners are not often to be seen. The food specials can be disappointing, so stick to the excellent pies, burger, etc. A nearly great pub - just needs a little extra care.
