Wish we had seen the reviews before we visited, as we had a similar experience as baddyboy, fantastic venue, and great website promised a tasty meal at gastropub prices. The food was poor to say the least. We ordered cottage pie, which was made with tinned mince! and fish pie which had bits of chicken in it! not great if you don't eat meat! The staff were over attentive, with a visit to our table every other mouthful, they may as well have sat down with us! Shame as we feel we have paid over the odds for a very mediocre meal. Come on guys, the venue deserves to have a better chef, get Ramsey in!

I can only assume that the positive comments already posted about this pub have been posted by someone with an interest in it. My wife and I ate at the Griffin with a couple of friends during the week and can advise that it is, without doubt, the worse dining experience I've ever had. I ordered Scampi (for 9.50) and didn't even attempt to eat it it was that dry and over cooked. There were perhaps 7 pieces of 'scampi' on the plate and a few chips. A friend of ours had ham, egg and chips and was astonished to find that the ham was like wafer-thin ham that can be purchased out of Tesco for a fraction of the 9.50 price of the meal. This was also sent back. The other two meals were barely edible but marginally better. Whilst accepting that the ham was processed ham out of a packet (!) the manager didn't however apologise for the meals but offered us 50% off our next meal there. Wasn't sure if he was trying to be funny! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS

Oh dear, very depressing. Pub carnage. It was a fine pub a year ago. After a change of hands in the summer, according to the staff, no longer. Even the pineapple juice was off - amply demonstrated by the barmaid who ran around the bar after taking a sip of the suspiciously cloudy liquid to spit it out. And then the curse of the carvery: Yorkshire puds were heavy balls of uncooked dough; parboiled potatoes with a coloured tinge masqueraded as roasts and everything else was cold. Then the young manager tried to defend the indefensible. It was our fault for going for a second plate, he said. As if; half a plate was quite enough. Still, the tablecloths were white. One mark for the laundry. Dreadful.

Have to agree about the staff and the food for this pub, but, would have like to have had a better table than the one we had. Couldnt fault the place other than that.

By far the most friendliest pub in the village and the food is fantastic!! The staff were great at greating when we arrived, they took the order as fast as we could give it to them and they really made us feel welcome!! The staff took the time to make the children feel welcome and to take the time to talk to them too. Best place for families in the village and well worth popping in to see the menu.......mmmmmmm The best sunday lunch we have had in a long time x thanks to the bar manager Kim who made us feel very welcome.
