Happy, friendly staff. Great open fire. Pool table. Decent food. Smoking area could do with a heater and they don't serve "Dark Fruits" (That's the cider, not gays with a suntan) but apart from that, a great place for a few pints.

The White Hart is right at the centre of this small town. It still has accommodation and there is a nice lounge area near the hotel's reception. The public bar is where most people go though and it has more of a pub feel. Although the music seemed a touch too loud for a Sunday evening. The barman was welcoming. 3 ales were on - Arkells 3B & Wiltshire Gold & Donnington On The Nose.

We visited on the Sunday evening after Christmas, and there was just three drinkers when we arrived. This pub can't seem to make up its mind whether it wants to be a youth venue, or a more traditional inn trading on its historic heritage. It seems to be favouring the former, as there is a pool table dominating one end of the bar, and the two screens at the time of our visit had the Ibiza Rocks festival blaring out, albeit not at a deafening volume. There were 3 real ales from the Arkells brewery of Swindon - 3Bs, Moonlight and Wiltshire Gold. These are fine beers, but unfortunately the 3Bs and the Wiltshire Gold were flat and lifeless, and the 3Bs had a slightly sour after-taste. However, it's worth a visit and hopefully you will find that the beer is fresher than on our visit.

Myself and a work colleague popped in here on Saturday afternoon. The place was fairly busy. Like 'forestwood' in the previous post, I had never tried Arkell's beers before. We tried the '3B' as well and it was outstanding!! The place was busy and was showing 'legitimate' Sky Sports!!! Now there's a rarity. Great place, friendly barmaid (she may have been the manageress in all fairness) and you were made to feel welcome. 10/10 from me!!
As other 'posters' have said, visit this pub/hotel, you will not be dissapointed!!!

The pub now sells Arkells Pilsner lager for 2 a pint. Genius.

Very good community local (even though it's a hotel). Beer always in good condition, you get the usual Arkell's range and nothing wrong with that. Slightly odd layout and decor, and once when I was there a large portion of ceiling fell down, but then the place is several hundred years old.
Definitely worth a visit.

This is the best pub/hotel in town, friendly staff, good ales and edible food cooked by the landlady and her husband (she is clearly the guv'nor here).
Go, you will be looked after.

Visited early on Saturday, bar was pretty quiet and decor a bit odd (not sure of the balance between old and new in the bar area) but a decent pint and stayed for a spot of food which was excellent (bangers and mash and the veg was very fresh). The Mrs had blackened chicken and tomato pasta which was also very tasty. Would hapily return to this pub. Staff seemed friendly too.

While the decor is a little unusual I really like this pub, good food, nice selection of ales and friendly staff. We have been quite a few times and not had a bad experience yet, also the accommodation is good to according to my partners parents!

Fancy hotel selling Arkells Ales in reasonable condition plus a normal keg range. Dcor in the bar is strange mix being a bit minimalist with pubby bits, clinical white walls with Britannia tables, stained glass and wainscotting plus the ubiquitous games and fruit machines, and loudish music. An odd smoky foody smell rather than the usual hotel food smell, the staff are fairly typical of hotel bars, efficient but not effusive. Mainly 20 and 30 somethings on the evening I visited.

I echo all the positive comments below - great beer, great food and happy, friendly staff.
I was very impressed with the seafood Lasagne.....it was awesome!! Next time Im in Whitchurch, I shall call in again!

When I visited - a saturday night - good atmosphere, friendly staff and most important real ale served in good condition. If you are in Whitchurch its worth a visit.

Nice pub, good beer and atmosphere. The food is superb and reasonably priced. A must visit pub.

Perfectly acceptable Arkells pub in the retiring north Hampshire market town of Whitchurch, once famous for printing the paper used in Bank of England notes. Good 3B and a convivial atmosphere, not least from the very friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

Friendly staff. A saloon bar "downstairs" and a lounge bar, restaurant and bar food "upstairs" (Only half a flight of stairs - the place is built on a hill) Good beer well served (CAMRA approved 2007). Take your pick of which type of bar you want.

Over priced, over rated, lacking in atmosphere what else can you say> It is an Arkells pub I believe with a reasonable 3B's served by a reasonably efficient member of staff in a rather lack lustre black painted bar completly void of any original character. The menu was over rated with "brought in food". For the price I would expect home made. A real dissapointment.

Despite having to serve on all sides, bar staff keep well on top of it all. Excellent beer and food, both reasonably priced, and they do that old fashioned thing of not charging you till you leave - something I've not seen in many a long year. Very trusting. Highly recommended.
