I feel that the quality of the food and service here has fallen significantly. The table and the window sill were sticky, the menu was a tired sheet of A4, our burgers and chips were very dry, nobody asked us if everything was OK during our meal and it took nearly two hours despite the fact that we had booked and arrived quite early in the evening. Won't be coming back here again... shame.

I want to be nice to this pub I really do, so let's start with the good things - it has a nice garden and the bar is one of the most traditional in the area with a stone (or is it tile?) floor. When it is full, the locals give it a good atmosphere with plenty of good humour. The beer choice is okay but nothing local is served and the last time I went there the beers I had were pretty poorly kept (which also applied the time before that). Now, I can understand why pubs have introduced restaurants and why, from time to time those tables are reserved but when they start reserving tables in the bar, then in my opinion things have gone a bit far. Back to positives though, I felt that my food was good although I did get nagged that vegetarian or fish options were in short supply. Look, this is basically a decent pub but with faults, although nothing that a slight tweak in attitude and a cellar management course couldn't cure.

New owners since spring this year, have settled in well and for the test of time, least a summer so far, the outlook is very promising. Beer, food and service being paid attention to by the landlord and his lady, staff in good form. Good garden, good for kids, dogs and walkers. Definitely worth a visit and a steak on Tuesday nights on the path to greatness.

A great little pub with loads of atmosphere, really out in the sticks, single track lane from Gt Misssenden to find this place, but well worth it. Good service, reasonable prices, did not eat but meals we saw looked good and hearty. Loos used by the ladies in our party and they were clean. The sort of pub we would go back to for further drinks and something to eat - service was good, could find not fault with this pub.

We've been here several times in the last year for lunch which has been excellent every time. The choice is limited but personally I prefer this as the food is generally fresher. There's a cosy snug bar with an open fire which always has a few locals chatting to the staff. I had a superb pint of Directors last time we were there.

Poorly kept beer, London prices on food (mediocre at best) slow service.....what a shame could be so much more.

I have requested that my 7 December message be removed; the tenor of that message was OTT for which I apologise. On reflection, this is still quite a decent little pub with a good public bar. I just hope that the restaurant is not allowed to dominate to the exclusion of all else.

I love this pub. It has something for everyone and is so welcoming. Lovely cosy snug bar area with warming log fire, restaurant with fab food (watch out! When the Good Food Guide hears about this place we could all be fighting for a table!)
So they swept up the sawdust - we're not in the 18th century anymore.
A great pub which still retains its atmosphere and serves great food. Who could ask for anything more

I don't know how much Redriley had to drink prior to his last posting but the dining room has never had "prissy little starched tablecloths". I am pleased to hear that his initial choice of beer was changed without question perhaps it was nearing the end of the barrel as,generally, the beer quality is now much improved.
Previous comment regarding the locals also seems rather awry as on my visits the bar has always been pleasantly frequented by locals enthusiastic about the changes made to decor and the fare availble in the dining room. The bar has been left as it has always been.... cosy and welcoming.
A great little pub perhaps even more appealing to the locals for the change.

I second the last reviewers comments. Used to be a good little pub, but now the tables have sprouted prissy little starched tablecloths and all the paraphernalia that goes with that appalling early twenty first century phenomena - the 'gastro pub'. Beer was seemingly brewed by Sarson's although to be fair, they did change it when I complained.

I used to work and drink in this Pub, was a great little place, really had the local feeling. It kept good ales too. The proprietors then went back home to NZ and it all went downhill from there really. Pub is no longer a Pub its another restaurants with a bar. Beer isn't all that great, not very well kept. Local feeling all but lost. Food is I must admit very good, small portions but rich, however its not pub food. They don't even sell sandwiches! Overall: If you want a local pub to sit down in with a refreshing pint and a good cheese ploughman's after a long ol stroll, here's not the place. If you want good gastro pub food, go here, they also have a good selection of wines.

Used to be a great "local" pub, now a gastro so beer not great, food nice but again last visit was a 3 hour experience to get 2 courses....Oft told story of the local pub that isn't for locals.

This is a superb little pub which, as we noticed from the sign outside, is under new management. We went there for dinner on a Sunday night. Fantastic food, reasonably priced (you'd pay a lot more if the same quality was served in a city bistro) and served by the really friendly hosts. All delivered in a cosy little traditional pub environment with some good real ales on tap. We'll be back.

Stumbled into this pub almost by accident recently and was very impressed. Staff were friendly, beer and food were both good, even if menu was a little limited.Has a very atmospheric public bar where you can play 'hunt the TV'.
