Was here in June 2013 for a couple of pints - great atmosphere and location. The ale and the cider I tried were both well kept so it worth adding this to your walking route if you are in the area.

I've been using this pub for a number of years now whenever I'm in the area, which unfortunately isn't very often now. What a gem of a place, Perfect location, great beers, good food, friendly locals. I cannot praise this place enough. I wish I could afford to but one of those lovely thatched cottages within spitting distance.

Everything a pub should be very homely and cosy a real treat. 9/10

A gem of a pub in a fantastic location. Beer garden is a public right of way so plenty of passing trade! Very cosy inside with own brewed beers, which were tip top. Shame they cannot come up with a golden ale/light brew in between the Branoc (3.8) and Summa That (5%). That's just me being picky. Food was excellent too, I had beer battered fish and chips and a BBQ all good. You can eat in the pub (but cannot book) or in the restaurant which can be booked. It was busy during our stay 3rd - 10th Sept. I'd recommend.

A tiny, traditional Devon country pub serving Branscombe Vale beers. Consitently high in local CAMRA ratings this truly is a gem not to be missed.

This is quite simply my favourite pub in the world. The review that said - "This is what a pub should be!" - has hit the nail right on the head. Superb in every respect. Brilliantly old school, traditional english pub, pubs do not get better than this. Location, food, drinks, staff, locals, atmosphere all 10/10. Truly magical.

A wonderful pub in a lovely situation with good beer from the local brewery.

This is what a pub should be! Fantastic. I visited this pub on Friday evening with the wife after we came down to see friends that live in the village. The locals are lovely and fun to have a chat and a laugh with and make you feel very welcome. I have to say that the beer (Branscombe) was great and well kept but for me the 'real' cider (in a barrel on the bar) was fantastic. I also tried the Stowford Press which was beautiful. We sat next to a beautiful smoky roaring log fire and ordered the pork belly and my wife had the scallops. We both agreed that both dishes were fantastic.
Well done the Fountain Head!
Well worth the walk up the hill no wonder I was so thirsty!!
The better of the two pubs in Branscombe due to beer, price, food and atmosphere. Please read my review on the Masons Arms, Branscombe.

Wonderful proper pub with flagstone floors and open fire, nestling in the Devon countyside next to a tiny stream that provides the water for the pub's own brew. A trip to the toilet takes you out the wooden door, across the shingle stones and into the facilities with the sound of the bubbling brook in your ears. The beer is good as is the food and unusually (nowadays) the pub was full on a rainy Tuesday night outside the tourist season...

Finally got around to visiting the Fountain Head. Have often passed by but never found the car park. If you use the road from Weston, its just at the bottom of the steep hill. It is tiny tho. Other wise its a bit of a walk from the next suitable place to park.
However don't let this put you this little gem of a pub. The Branoc was excellent, maybe piped directly from the brewery!!! Also had Summa that on draft. Lovely atmosphere. Seating out side and roomy inside with lots of little nooks to explore. Food looked good, although we didn't eat. Will visit for lunch soon.

This place deserves all the praise. Though it's a bit hard to find (and even harder to park) once you're there great local beers on tap, cosy, traditional interior, tranquil outside seating area and wholesome hearty food. Definitely worth a visit.

Visited this pub on several occasions whilst on holiday. Great tradtional old pub with well kept Branscombe ales and superb food. Friendly atmosphere and not forgetting 2 traditional ciders straight from the barrel. This pub should be a the very top of anyone's places to visit. 10 out of 10.

Spent a happy week drinking here in August 2008 whilst staying in a nearby cottage. Great beer (especially Branoc) and a very friendly welcome and atmosphere.
|
brilliant traditional pub. And kids are allowed on the outside seating only...perfect! lovely old-fashioned interior, settles and old benches etc, open fires.. and to top all that superb Branscombe ales. even good food for those who have time out from drinking...

I visited this splendid pub twice whilst on holiday this year. Once a forge, it is now both cosy and comfortable, and I would be interested to see what it is like in the depths of winter. The beers, from Branscombe Vale are kept in top notch condition. Getting there can be a test of your driving skills and parking tricky but it is well worth the effort.

Went here in April. Great pub, out of the way. Good beer & food. Like pubs should be. And, back there tomorrow!
|
Atmospheric old pub with a great menu and friendly service. Branscombe Vale Brewery ales on tap. One of our favourite places to relax and unwind.
