A very nice pub. Good range of ales and I din;t feel uncomfortable as a mere drinker.

I visited this pub one Tuesday morning with my mother and father who are both in their eighties and were all very impressed. Having only booked the table near the fireplace eight months in advance we were fortunately enough to get a table next to all of the other quirky women who thought that they were starring in "Sex and the city". Entertainment was excellent and featured a terrific solo masturbation set from Trudy the resident lesbian. Tweet @theshoes and simply relay the secret password upon entry to the aggressive barman/accountant to see Trudy's "Garlic bread trick". It's absolutely amazing and will guarantee to have you coming back for more.

Went in for Mothers day, luckily we booked. The place was full to the rafters. Must say I was a little concerned of how the food quality would be seeing as how full the place was. I shouldn't have worried, the whole meal was first class as usually.

Great place! Friendly staff, fantastic food and good beer. Lovely atmosphere and good prices to boot!
|
Food still good, but the menu doesn't change enough now and there doesn't seem to be many vegetarian options. Staff are still very good apart from the assistant manager. The place needs some maintenance as it beginning to fall apart.

Definately in the Gastro bracket.
Have eaten here a few times and found it excellent. Each visit has been a weekend daytime so not well qualified to judge more than that.
Looking forward to this being my local soon, so will report on the evenings and weekdays in due course.

No doubt about it the food, premises and staff are excellent. The only downside is they are not geared up for children who do anything other than sit in a corner. So my advice is: if you want to appreciate fully what is an excellent establishment with a fine menu, dont bring the kids.(saves being frowned at!)

visited for a spot of lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Not a locals pub but for food you cant go wrong

This is the only pub I have been to that I would recommend to another person. The food is amazing. I haven't got a bad word to say about the place. Decor, surroundings and staff are all good. Price reflects the quality of the food and service. The menu changes with the seasonal ingredients available in the local area so you know you're always getting the best, fresh, food. I love it so much I had my wedding reception there, family birthdays and hope to have many more wonderful meals there over the years.

Visited on a Sunday afternoon because this is one of the few pubs that serve food into the evening on a Sunday. Very pleased with the experience. As previously stated "stylish pub in nice settings" Good menu with plenty of choice. All the food served was very good. Two cask ales on sale, Timmy Taylors Landlord (which was well kept) and a West Sussex ale. Unfortunately for me this quite some distance from where I live but that certainly won't stop me for returning. Fully recommended .

Visited last night with friends, lovely first impressions and wasnt disappointed when we walked in, although the barman was a little vacant regarding wines etc, but we were shown to a table in a professional, friendly manner and thought the place had a welcoming atmosphere, lovely decor and beautiful location. Food was on par with my expectation, started with the mushrooms, with spinach on ciabatta, very full flavoured and above all hot! Not so impressed with the main, which was from the specials board, linguini with mussels and crab, the salmon and the red pepper slices were two flavours too many and the mussels were very small but in their defence flavourful. I wasnt sure about the sauce, corriander may of been a wrong herb, flat leaf parsley may of been a better choice. Pudding was fresh strawberries and cream, very little flavour, and straight from the fridge, please bring these fruits upto room temperature! Great place and decor beautiful, other plates of food going out looked very nice and i shall certainly be visiting again soon.

Not sure about the ales, but the food is very good.
Not cheap, but worth the price to know you will get good food. I have been on about 3 or 4 occassions and always really enjoyed myself. Last time I was there they were doing a deal (15 a bottle of bubbly), which definitely helped the evening go smoothly.
Warmly recommended.

Stylish pub in rural surroundings. Very good range of beers.

i suspect the previous reviewer was a former employee.complete waste of his time being here.been back to this place for a valantines eve meal.was grt again.went or the scallops and a crayfish salad.the scallops were excellent as always but i wish i had ordered the seafood ravioli with citrus dressing.nothing wrong with the salad,i just ordered wrng.went on to order chicken wrapped in ham with a lovely garlicky cream sauce and we also ordered the bass fillets.the fillets were huge and completely bone free.i had lemon posset for desert which is a lovely light and refreshing way to fininshing a meal.grt wine list, well kept landlord.made a point of chatting to the gaffer who was friendly and attentive through the meal.if hes spitting in the fod he should bottle it and sell it.the foods grt.the rating creeps up to 8.we will be back!!
|
the landlord is a proper tosser. food is good tho if he aint spitting in it???????

run by the same people who run the "White horse" at bearsted green.its now a food lead outlet and i agree wth the previous reviewer, its very tastefully done.theres landlord bitter on.very well kept.this place was a hell hole not long ago.it was full of hypnotic fruit machines with accompaning hoots and toots and ball ponds.its now stylish with stylish drinks and very good food.the sunday lunch here was really good having been taken for fathers day,it may have helped i wasnt paying???.the staff are very good.we went here when it was refurbed once and my drink was remembered by the barman a week later when we returned, that makes a big difference.our waiter{mark} sat down with us and explained the dishes, abit familiar,no it was done because he was genuinely enthusiastic about the menu.the starter of salmon on a rosti with capers is a cracker, the goats cheese wrapped in air dried ham was just as good.the mushroom starter seems abit mean.these starters are starter size and not main meal size.look out for the corn beef hash, lovely.sadly the fillet my daughter had was ordinary.we were also asked to try a desert the chef had done that day for feedback.its a lovely place for a family meal, bright airie and had a grt vibe about the place.weve only been once in the eve and it wasnt as good,so review is purely on our lunchtime visits.will be going regularly.

The last time I visited The Horseshoes, many years ago , it was a little old, pretty basic country boozer of a kind that is, sadly, all but extinct, in this part of the world anyway. What a transformation! M & B have really gone to town with this refurb, and while I have to admit that what they've turned it into isn't really my kind of place, I'll also have to admit that it's all been done very tastefully, and with some style, combining the traditional (eg several real open fires) with the contemporary (the furniture and decor). It's much better done than the ersatz 'cottage' style (books on shelves, assorted clutter, etc) that too often seems to be the style of choice for modern pub designers. If they can fill it, they'll see their money back OK, because it's huge. I'd have thought it was a bit of a gamble in this location - but good luck to them; at least they've kept the old place alive. I didn't try the food, which of course is the main thing here, but the prices looked reasonable, at least. The only cask beer was T. Taylor Landlord, which was expensive but excellent.
