I see that this one hasn't been reviewed for a while, so thought I would add my tuppence worth having been there earlier today.
Loved it.
Beautiful setting, as has been said before. I do like a nice beer garden to sit in quaff away in the sunshine and this place certainly ticks all the boxes in that respect.
We found the food very very good - had a fantastic ploughmans and the kids absolutely demolished their meals too. The beer - 6X - was excellent and very well kept.
I see there have been some commments about the service in the past. Well, all I can say is that the bunch they had in there today were all very friendly, polite, enthusiastic and hard working. When we ordered food they explained there would be a bit of a delay as they were clearly busy - far enough - and I also heard them explain to some other customers that they were out of pitta bread (for a Greek salad - I know!) so were offering alternatives instead. Good communication.
All in all a thoroughly pleasant afternoon - spoilt only by me getting us lost on the way back to London and then getting stuck in the obligatory Friday afternoon M25 tailbacks - and I can't blame the pub for any of that!

I have never before felt compelled to leave a review, good or bad, but after our visit to The Bridge on Sunday evening I feel I must on this occasion. Despite being 'Sunday Roast' day, there were no roasts available, and over half of the other dishes on the menu were unavailable, but we were not informed of this when we arrived. Although a bank holiday weekend, there was only one other table being served when we arrived so having to wait over 1 1/2 hours for our main courses to appear left us a little baffled. We then had to wait over 40 minutes for our plates to be cleared. The other table complained several times about waiting, and were met with apathetic responses. Did we complain? No, as I got the impression that the staff couldn't have cared less. We registered our displeasure by not leaving a tip, but having already been charged 30.00 a head felt we had already paid over the odds. Our view straight into the gents toilets (full sight of the urinals) just about summed up our visit. The food was just o.k.

I too was in the pub for lunch on the 17th on a table of 4. I am also a regular at The bridge and was also shocked to read those comments by 123gfl. Yes there was some items missing from the menu which we were all informed about before taking our seats and, given the recent weather which caused all sorts f logistical problems re deliveries, etc, I wasn't surprised to hear this. The staff were brilliant, as always, and the food first rate, as always. I did notice the complainer who looked incredibly miserable for the whole time, almost like he didn't really want to be there? If you are thinking of visiting this brilliant Salisbury pub then please ignore the review of 17th Jan and go and enjoy yourselves. We went again last night with friends, table for 6 and had (another) wonderful time.
|
Note also that 123gfl - the complainer - has only posted once, his negative review of this pub. I would suggest taking this into account when deciding how seriously to take him.
I have never had a bad experience here and would recommend it to anyone for both food and beer.

As a regular customer at the bridge i was shocked to read the comment posted on the 17th of Jan. My husband and i were also eating at the bridge on the 17th and were sat near to the family from hell!! From the moment they walked in they appeared to try to make life as difficult as possable for the staff. Yes there was a slight wait on food as they appeared to be fully booked, but we were informed of this. The waitress also appeared to be doing everything in her power to look after the family but was reduced to tears by the rude agressive man! We always have a wonderful time at the bridge and would recomend it to anyone. I also think that man has far to much time on his hands to write as much as he did!

Per chance me and my family were at the Bridge Inn on the same Sunday as the previous reviewer and we had a fantastic meal and service so I highly recommend the pub. I also sat near the man complaining and he was very rude, and agressive.A very good example of how NOT to complain!!! Keep up the good work at the Bridge guys!!

What a beautiful location! However, if you're thinking about having a meal at the Bridge Inn....then please think again! We booked a table for Sunday lunch for 8 people so we could meet up for a special family gathering. Firstly, we were told that they had run out of a few things on the menu, including some items on the specials board. This wasn't surprising as it did seem to be relatively busy. However, by the time our order was FINALLY taken, they had run out of a lot more menu items than first told so we had to re-think our choices. Considering it was a sunday, they only had beef or chicken available for the roast options, but were later told that they only had one portion of chicken left so this was in fact effectively just one roast option. We were told that we could have duck roast at no extra cost. We worked out that about 60% of the total menu was unavailable which is just unacceptable. Our main courses finally arrived nearly an hour and a half after ordering them. I can honestly say they not one meal was to the required standard considering the prices being charged (12.50 for the roasts). After waiting another ten minutes for some cutlery, we all tucked in to our meals. My meal (sausages and mash) was not great. One of the sausages was not cooked properly and the mash had been standing in gravy for so long in the kitchen it turned to slop. The beef roast dinners were a terrible standard. The beef was extremely tough and the yorkshire puddings were rock hard. One of the dinners was served in a deep bowl which made cutting the meat up very hard indeed. The one roast chicken that was ordered turned up as an overcooked chicken leg and some shrivelled up new potatoes that were a substitute for roast potatoes. The roast duck roast was not much better. When asked why the 2 'chicken' roasts didn't have roast potatoes as described in the menu, we were not given an answer. The waitress went into the kitchen to ask and never returned with an answer. We waited about half an hour after finishing our meal for the plates to be cleared away, by which time the pub was nearly empty - so no excuse. At not one point through the whole meal were we asked if 'everything was ok?'. By the time the plates were cleared away, we were not asked whether we wanted desserts or coffees, just completely ignored. The service we received was utterly discgraceful and I would not want anyone else to go through the same. Needless to say we wont be returning nor recommending this pub to any of our family or friends.

I'm glad I checked out pubs in this area on the internet, prior to planning my journey across Wiltshire. Having been put off some others, I decided on The Bridge Inn, and arrived with my 11-yr-old daughter at 8.00 Bank Holiday Monday evening. It is in the most pleasant surroundings, and the staff were extremely obliging. I said I was vegetarian, and just wanted a cheese salad, and that is what was provided in spite of it not being on the menu. My daughter's sausage and mash was delicious.

Slightly odd modernisation of the restaraunt/dining area, but it seems to work. Food was well prepared and presented and tasted fantastic but was expensive. Three ales on - Wadworth's 6X was OK but not the best I've had. Definately happy to spend an evening here.

I spent the weekend in Wiltshire and found this gem on Sunday. It is a beautiful spot, postcard perfect! Trout in the river, swans, willow trees, old bridge, you get the picture, gorgeous. Nice local ales sold by polite attractive staff, and a roast to die for!!! Just make sure you're there before 2.30 because the kitchen closes. A perfect end to a perfect weekend. I want to live here!

Superb location, friendly staff, food was superb, great atmosphere. Loved it! The staff mentioned that the pub changed hands two months ago so for those disappointed in the past give it another go, you will be pleasantly surprised.
|
Great location, but slightly uneasy modernisation, food OK, good value, rather strange closing at 10 in the evening (Tuesday) though. Could with a little effort be much better.

The first thing I would say about this pub is that it looks fab, its situated next to the water and is very pretty. That is the only good this I have to say, we waited almost 2 hours for our food, when it arrived it was cold and burned! I complained to the staff behind the bar and they basically argued with me, I asked to speak to the manager and I was told he was too busy! To cap it all off our bill was incorrect. A very disappointing experience.

Superb location for a pub next to river and in the Avon valley bottom.
Always 2 real ales on and normally in good condition and at 2.50 a pint not bad for a lot of Salisbury pubs.
Food is expensive but you're getting a top class chef/landlord who used to work in the Conran restaurants. Never had a duff meal there and unlikely to do so

This used to be a great local,(formerly Gibbs Mew). A pretentious and expensive pub now, no longer a local. Sic Transit Gloria. Avoid and visit the Black Horse at Durnford. That IS a great local.

I visited here last night 8th June. Excellent location, BUT, food prices extortionate for what you get. Obviously paying to be so close to the river, ducks look well fed on being thrown the left overs! Bar staff understaffed, expect a long wait for over-priced Salisbury Spitfire beer. Wouldn't go again.Dissappointing pub, great location.

Rather pretentious and beer expensive. A lovely location, worth a try.

Obviously a popular pub being by the river. They let you buy a round of drinks first and they don't put up a notice saying that you can't order food on a Sunday unless you have made a reservation.

Very pleasant to sit outside next to the river. Beer not so pleasant sorry to say.
