A group of old friends had a really great lunchtime reunion here..The beer was very well kept, food was very good and Chrissie landlady could not have been more helpfull...I think this is real gem of an old pub...i would recommend it to anybody...All the very best to the landlady and staff.....

I'm not sure what this pub was like under its old management, but it's really lovely now. I've been there for 2 special events (a Christmas lunch and Anniversary party), as well as for lunch, and it was great.
The food is very nice (they have some good vegetarian options--I like their nut loaf roast dinner and cheese and tomato panini), and the atmosphere is good. It's a very clean and well-maintained pub--they have a conservatory as well, which is really nice for special events or just a meal.
If you haven't been there since Chrissy took over, then I suggest giving it another try.

What an awful pub. No atmosphare, no real maintenance, mis-managed and has taken a real dive. I would like to add along to a previous reviewers comments, there are alot better options down in Knowl Hill. The beer selection here is shockingly bad and the poor hygiene makes me question the standards of the beer taste and food.
Avoid at all costs. New managment sign boards scattered all around. I give the management less than 6 months before they throw in the towel. I doubt this sh*y hole will rise from the phoneix!

Re-visited just before Xmas. I think the owners have changed, but the pub isn't really any better. Uncleared plates left scattered around from lunch, not a great atmosphere, Brakspear beer not great.
Don't bother, there's a lot better up towards Knowl Hill.

Wasn't keen on this place during my visit.
The Brakspear ale range was limited and poor in quality. Sections of the clientle left a lot to be desired - I made my excuses and left, as the NotW would say.
Shame, looks like it could be a decent place in the right hands.

Passed this pub at 9:35 p.m. the other Monday and it appeared to be closed!

Under new management. Intrusive canned music. Fruit machines everywhere. Dogs no longer allowed.
Shan't be going back. A fabulous pub ruined.

Don't know whats happened here since Sita and Paul left in April.
It's really gone down hill. Once a great food led pub with great beer. Now heading to be just another boozer. A real shame.:(

Visited this pub just before Christmas and had a very enjoyable evening. The menu was varied and the food great!

Lovely little pub a few yards north off the A4. Good food and good beer.
|
A gem. Brakspear's ale on handpumps. Good range of food. No horrid canned music or TV's. Friendly bar staff. Car park. Dogs allowed. Kids welcomed. No-smoking area. Garden. A stone's throw from the A4. This is what a pub ought to be like.
