A decent sized pub inside with an olde worldy interior with a quirky modern design.
The garden is fair although it could have had it's furniture updated a bit.
Good selection of ales and other drinks.
This is a lovely pub in a lovely village.

9/10

Absolutely appalling !

Visited on 7/5/12 , will not bore you with ll the fine details but general comments :

1) Complete lack of service to the point of being ignored, even though virtually empty
2) Food was brought through in dribs and drabs, 30 minutes apart !!
3) Food was overcooked, dry and minimal on huge plates
4) Staff inattentive and having to keep asking for basics
5) Food ordered was substituted for other items without notice !!!!
6) overpriced, not worth the money
7) to add insult to injury, overcharged at the end

AVOID !!!!!!!!!!

As someone who usually spends a week of the summer in nearby Seaton, I'm very disappointed to hear Jeff's news. The Harbour, over the last couple of years, has comfortably been the best pub in the area for a meal and having visited the Wheelwright, I know exactly what he means.
BigAlBlue - 12 Apr 2011 16:32
Oh what a shame, just found out the new owners are the same as The Wheelwright along the road! Went there twice last year and what a disaster, hope they don't do the same to The Harbour. At least the staff a more friendly at The Harbour. Watch out for the price increase, lack of service and minimal food on a very large plate!!!!!!!
Not happy another decent pub on the slippery road of decline.

2011 : New owners. The Pub is now open all day all year round. Chefs are fabulous, and as always the staff are welcoming. Hoping to host our future wedding here as its service is that superb, reasonably priced and above all very friendly. Plus sides, pets welcome inside & outside, gorgeous garden, one side posh tables and large heated parasols and the other the traditional beer garden we love in the summer months. Toilets need updating but Im sure the new owners are already on the case. Will be regulars when we are down in the summer.

Lunchtime visit , mainly for a meal. Reasonably priced meals with good cheerful table service. Real ales on offer were Badger Gold, Tanglefoot and Sussex plus the seasonal Pickled Partridge which I found to be really tasty and very drinkable. Stowford Press cider also on draught. Busy even on an early February weekday. The sign outside now says food is available all day.

Visted the Harbour in Sept - not disappointed then Returned to see the famous burning of the Ashen Faggot on Xmas Eve. What a brillient evening had by all. A traditional xmas eve, great atmosphere, locals carrying out the traditional Ashen Faggot ways, roaring fire, carols sung accompanied by a flutest, mince pies, sausage rolls and great beers. No wonder it was wall to wall with people. Mark this event on next years calender, not to be missed. Well done to all involved in making it a great night.

Great pub. Excellent beer. Only downside is that its not open all day, even in the summer.

Great tasting pint of Badger "Lemony Cricket" was quaffed here before heading over to Seaton Carnival back in September. The service was quite disinterested but the pub is lovely and like i say the ale is good. 7/10

Great night had by all, Really good atmosphere. Sunday night quiz night, good fun and supper included, (which we didn't expect). Made to feel very welcome by the landlady and landlord and the "locals" were all very friendly. We'll definately be back.

What more could you wish for, a real ale drinkers delight - a choice of seasonal ale Pickled Partridge, Tanglefoot or Badger . A very welcoming log fire and equally warm friendly staff, on a cold wet misirable night, a very homely atmosphere. Didn't eat this time, but the steak and ale pie, chips and peas that was served on the table behind me look very appetizing and listening to their comments it was very good. Whether you are dining or just drinking, I would certainly recommend The Harbour.

My wife & I dinned at the Harbour today. Roaring log fire as you entered matched by the warm friendly welcome by the staff. Value for money can't be beaten. We both had homemade Steak & Badger Ale Pie with chips and peas followed by a "to die for" (according to my wife) home made cheesecake and myself cheese and biscuits, washed down by a couple of bottles of Poachers Ale and HB lagers. The food was served quickly and efficiently and the waitress was very attentive, considering they had a large party in at the same time as us. Well done to all,we will certainly be back for more.

We were staying in Seaton during September and visited the Harbour Inn, we had vouchers from Walkers ( bogof). We have stayed in some excellent hotels and eaten superb food over the years and the meals are up there with the best.
We ate there twice recommend the sea bass and chicken breast with smoked bacon and apricot sauce.

Sat night called in on speck, car park full that usually speaks for its self. Pub very busy, good atmosphere. Friendly efficient staff, A little wait for food but understandable in circumstances, but worth waiting for. You pay for what you get - quality. Badger Ales with Stowford on draught and good choice of wines, not expensive Would certainly recommend this one 9/10 Keep it up, we'll be back.

A place to visit!!!! My family and I were holidaying in Beer and found the Harbour. It makes a refreshing change to find a place that makes you want to go back again. First impressions on arrival, what a colourful display of flowers that greets you. Plenty of space for the children to run around and let of steam in a safe garden before lunch. Nice to see notices about dog owners to keep the dogs on leads and clean up after them - shame more don't!!!!! Inside, we were greeted by friendly staff and several local characters. A very traditional old english pub. Great choice of menu that catered for all our needs (fussy children) and not at extortionate prices. Service was quick and efficient, but we did not feel rushed at all. After lunch we took our coffees outside in the garden to finish off a very pleasant experience. Well done to all, we will be back at half term time and would certainly recommend The Harbour and the surrounding area.

Visited The Harbour Inn with the wife kids for a family meal after an exhausting day at the beach. After a very tastey meal we decided to venture outside and i must say they've got a very nice patio and garden area to enjoy summer evenings with good beers and a relaxing atmosphere. Ashame not more pubs in the area don't offer the same facilities.
Will definately be back again.Great pub all round.

Visited The Harbour Inn whilst on holiday with family, first impression very chocolate box picturesque setting. Beautiful garden and surroundings. Oldy worldy inside - low beams warning! Selection of Badger ale served, Very good selection food menu - from light snacks to various choices from specials board. Friendly effecient staff. Value for money - would certainly go back again and recommend a visit - although recommend booking if you want to eat inside.

I visited this pub with my family including son (3). We had a very good meal on a beautiful day. The play area wasn't brilliant but it was away from the rest of the diners and meant we could eat and watch the kids at the same time. The service was fast, given that it was a Saturday afternoon and they were fairly busy.

I visited this pub on a nice sunny weekend and enjoyed sitting in the garden overlooking the river Axe.
The inside was really a restaurant with a bar, and lacked the atmosphere of pub. However, it serves it's purpose as a restauarant and has bags of space for the tourists who undoubtedly flock there in the height of summer. Because it is a restaurant, be prepared to pay restaurant prices.
The pub serves Badger beer and there was also Youngs Sussex ale. I had one of the Badger beers and it was very good indeed.
I enjoyed my visit, though I suspect its a place that is best used when the sun is shining and you can enjoy the views from the garden.

My visit was at the end of march (see below) so the new management havent made a jot of difference clearly. i'd also add that i was told by one of the bar staff when i was there that the landlord (who was responsible for the comments to us) had been there for years

richarddavies - 26 May 2008 10:51
Just to inform you that the Harbour Inn was taken over in February this year, and is under new management.

See some things never change.
Similar sort of thing happened on my last visit about ten years ago. Not sure if the same staff, but have never returned to this one.

Just drive past.

I would never normally post comments to a web site but so infuriated was I on my visit to this pub that I was compelled to do so. My wife and 2 small children booked a table to eat here, nothing special about the place but near to where we were staying. On entering it wasnt really a pub but a restaurant with a bar area.

Anyhow that wasnt the point. We all ordered some basic pub grub, with my wife opting for the plaice - not cheap at nearly 15 but its what she fancied. The food arrived and all was ok until my wife started to eat, only to find that half the fish (ie one side) was actually missing.

We deliberated over whether to just accept it, but given the price dared to complain and do the very un-British thing of sending it back. The somewhat dippy waitress couldnt get to grips with what to do and on returning 3 times with the plate was finally told in no uncertain terms that we didnt want the meal, but a new 'complete' version instead.

Another 10 minutes goes by and what was undoubtedly the rudest and most incompetent landlord I have personally come cross, turned up on the scene. Accusing my wife of trying to "get two meals for the price of one" he started accusing us of ripping him off by pretending we hadnt eaten anything. In the middle of what was a very embarrassing scene, in a small but packed dining room, my wife set out to explain what had gone on and that she hadnt touched the meal. This held no interest to the landlord who continued with his tirade, which finally resulted in us then refusing to pay for the fish and having to leave.

I have written to the Brewery to complain but no doubt he'll not even hear from them. Hopefully through the power of this site we can at least stop others from making the mistake we did, and hitting him where it clearly hurts the most... his pocket
