For a semi posh Hotel, this place isn't too expensive for beers.

There's a fantastic wooden decked blacony overhanging the river. We sat there on Grand National day (Sat 9th April) with the sun blasting down on us ... lovely spot for a beer.

Thatcher's Gold Cider on draught.

On a preternaturally warm Saturday afternoon in February I sat outside the Riverside on a balcony that hangs over the river Kent. Given that Kendal does not really make anything of its river, this could be a great spot in summer.

The Hawkshead Gold was very good.

I quite like the riverside. I have been in a few times for a beer (usually when going from the Castle to the Sawyers) and the Hawkshead bitter is always well kept. never seem to be many people in, but I don't think the beer was too pricey.

if you are in the area give it a try.

I stay at this hotel when I'm in Kendal and whilst it's a hotel bar it still has some regulars who call in. The two beers have always been very good and the service is cheerful and chatty. Not the cheapest pint in Kendal either but it's a good bar for a last one/two whilst staying here. Most hotel bars only sell overpriced fizz, so top marks to the Riverside for trying. Keep it up guys.

To echo the previous comments it's worth visiting only for the 2 Hawkshead beers they usually have on. It's not really a pub though.

Just going on the merits of the two Hawkshead ales that are usually on its worth a visit but it has no atmosphere and awful tables & chairs. The decor is very white, bright & clinical with the odd plant here & there.
The two Hawksheads that are on are excellent. The Castle round the corner has a Hawkshead on from time to time.

This is a hotel bar rather than a pub that happens to be called a hotel and as such may be thought by some to be a dreadful place to go for a drink by choice. It is true that the decor has rather an anonymous and corporate feel: tub chairs on a slate floor with identical wooden tables. But it has two Hawkshead beers - which tasted excellent on my visit and is thus the only regular outlet in Kendal (I think). One half is smoke free and thus the place to go if fed up of the smoke in the nearby albeit more generally atmospheric - Castle.
