Short menu but enjoyed the lunch, good value food, despite the nuisance flies

Attractive exterior and ruined modern interior. More gastropub than pub with most seating reserved. Limited beer choice (Courage Best & Skinners). On the plus side, the food was excellent, if pricey, and the service was very friendly. Think of it as a restaurant rather than a pub and it then becomes rather good.

Very awful experience will not be returning and would definitely NOT recommend this pub to anyone. We had booked a table in advance and when we arrived we were given menus and shown to our table. We placed our order at the bar within 10 minutes. Our party of four adults and a child ordered starters and main courses. After 40 minutes no starters had arrived so we enquired and were told they would be with us in 10 minutes time. A couple on the table behind also enquired and were also told 10 minutes they had only ordered soup and mussels. After waiting another 20 minutes for their starters the couple said they had had enough and left. After five minutes the couples starters were placed on their table none of the staff even noticed they had left and new customers were being told food was taking 20 minutes. We waited another 30 minutes so an hour and 10 minutes in total for even a starter to be served and decided enough was enough. We told the landlord we were leaving and why he showed no empathy and lacked any customer service skills. To be honest he seemed totally out of his depth and didn't know how to handle the whole situation. If he has just been honest and said what the hold up was and maybe offered some nibbles or free drinks whilst we waited that might of helped. As we left we noticed other tables some with children had decided to leave some angry they were screeching out of the car park in their cars. This is not acceptable service in this day and age and especially when the parties had children who had been patiently waiting. Do not visit unless you are prepared for a long wait!!!!!

Found this as we were driving from Corfe Castle to Lulworth Cove and what a great little find it was!
Picture postcard quaint from the outside, the inside was warm and inviting.
Lovely pub food - generous portions, arriving promptly and hot. My 5yr old's (off menu) lunch request was catered for with no drama.
Nice seating area outside, with children's climbing frame/slide.
The sign asking patrons to be thoughtful towards the local community as they leave made us smile - as we had picked a day when there was an artillery bombardment in full flow at the nearby army camp. I just hope our chuckles didn't spoil the locals' enjoyment of the gunfire!
My rating = 9/10

We walked to the pub along the cliff path after a visit to Tyneham & it was freezing. One or two Hefty climbs sorted us out & we were ready for lunch by the time we arrived at the Weld. My wife commented on the outside toilets, bit of a shock when it is minus 1c outside but she added they were modern & very clean. We can echo the recent comments, lovely pub from the outside, a bit too modernised interior for my taste, I do like a bit of interest & history which relates to the pub. Good food, quickly served & really nice staff. Excellent beer, Coopers was on & I choose the Dorset Gold, it never fails to please. All in all a pretty good pub, rates better than the 6.2 it had before my review. I give it an honest 8

Excellent place, really good food. We had two good meals there. The place was packed full by history reenactors at the weekend but they still managed to serve us efficiently some of the best food and beer around.

Served me a very well-kept pint of 'Cider by Rosie' local cider - a very tasty dry real cider. Friendly quiet pub with newspapers & a bookcase. Didn't try food (starts at 10 for ham, egg & chips) but meals looked good. Will call here again when in the area.

Another extremely attractive exterior, the Weld Arms is set in a lovely thatched cottage. A corridor leads from the front door to the main bar, located off to the left. The main bar has been modernised: not unpleasantly so, but I was perhaps hoping for something a bit more historic-looking. Just two handpumps, dispensing Ringwood Best and Palmer's Dorset Gold when I visited - both were served excellently. An extensive food menu although like pubsampler a fair few things were off and some other dishes not served as traditionally understood, presumably due to shortage of ingredients. Not a bad place, but not excellent.

I visited this pub for an evening meal twice earlier in the week with a four year old. The "Dorset" beer was fine, and two pints went down well both times. The main menu was adequate if not-wide ranging, but I enjoyed the lasagne one evening, and the fish and chips the other. However, the choice was pretty limited for a vegetarian child (basically just panne and chips or salad), and also there were inaccuarcies in the wording of the menu as to what was really available by way of choices.
On both occasions the staff were really friendly, efficient and courteous, being both adult and child-friendly.

Took my elderly parents here for a drink and were made to feel like we were a bloody nuisance. Wherever you go you're in the way of staff scurrying to and fro with mounds of full or empty plates. Yet another example of a decent locals' pub turned into a 'Nice Peoples' eaterie that treats you like a leper if you have the temerity to merely order a drink.

very friendly staff,Palmers and Ringwood best good but had 35 beers ready for the beer festival the next day which I couldnt try! D'Oh!

Just spent 4 days in the Lulworth area, had 3 lunches in this pub. The food is lovely and extremely well presented and by no means small portions. The manager and staff were on every occaision vibrant, pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere was very good in the pub. The mountain of mussells was great and the fish superb,I would recommend this pub without hesitation.

having just read the views or chorlock i feel i must pass comment on the weld arms.i used to live in lulworth and do try to visit as often as life lets me,and i have to say im horrified at the supposed "transformation" of the weld arms. the reason i have mentioned chorlock is purely for the fact that its people like him/her that are quietly destoying little pubs like the weld,as it certainly isnt a locals pub, not anymore there is no locals bar anymore it has been converted to ANOTHER part of the eating area which is now rarely used apart from the weekends when people like chorlock come out to play.and after talking to whats left of the "good ol boys" from lulworth they are definatly feeling most unwanted and feel they are being pushed out.so chorlock and friends although you had a lovely day think of what it has done to the local comunity

Visited this delightful little pub last weekend for a few ales and a meal since my first choice (the Castle in West Lulworth) was packed to the rafters. What a stroke of luck - whilst the range of the menu did not that appear spectacular, the food itself was well above the average for pub food. Well presented, very well cooked and extremely tasty. A hidden gem indeed.

Stumbled accross this 17th Century pub at the weekend and thought it was fantastic. Excellent Ringwood Best with a very good (organic) ploughmans. Yes I live in London so prices don't really shock me, but this was not expensive and the service and warm welcome from the manager made it a very pleasant find. I heartily recommend it.

Nice pub....beer had been kept well...reasonably priced very tasty food and the young lady behind the bar was friendly and polite. Very much a locals pub but I enjoyed my two sessions there...recommended!

Despite the negative feedback on beerintheevening, we visited this pub on our recent weekend in Lulworth, as we heard it had recently had a change of manager and chef. We can safely say that it is no longer a dark, strange little place. It is now light and bright and has some comfy sofas. It is still very much a traditional "locals'" pub, but we found the manager and bar staff to be friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious (we had the Chicken Jalfrezi and the Beef and Ale Pie). The menu is small and changes regularly and the manager and his staff know about the food and can talk about it with confidence. We had a lovely evening at The Weld Arms and would highly recommend it to others.

Oooo what a strange little pub, well actually, everything is normal except for the manager, seems a little odd.

i went here for a beer festival charity night last year. fantastic day. found the pub really nice and happy with the staff too. liked it.
|
A strange place, dark and dirty. The staff, mainly poorly trained south americans were chirpy but the pub manager was drunk and down right rude. Poor food, grossly overpriced, 2.65 for a pint of best and its a free house. Give it a big miss!

We lived in Lulworth for two and 1/2 years, returning to the states in 2003, while there we spent several evenings at your pub. Evry time we visited my husband would order the apple wood cod, if you could send the recipe our way I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you Judy Unruh
