Not a boring chain hotel but quirky independent, close to the town centre. Very comfy.
Normally 4 real ales from small breweries are on tap. Great pint of RCH Pitchfork.
Consistently gets good recommendationso. Landlord is very friendly and they do good vale pub food at lunchtimes. Try it out.

A gem of a pub,had some really nice ales on,very well kept too. Nice clean and friendly, very relaxing place to go. Had an excellent pint called "what the fox is that",a locally made ale. Very handy next to the racecourse.

Went again tonight after the town bonfire so it was noisy and busy once more but in a good way. The RCH Pitchfork was in fine order, also available were Purity UBU, Wye Valley Dorothy Goodbody's Golden Ale, Hobson's Mild and their own Paul Pry Fourpenny Brew. Strongbow and Thatcher's Gold for the cider drinkers in our party. A short but enjoyable visit.

Visited on New Year's Eve after the horse racing. Good crowd there (we were lucky to get a seat because it soon filled up) and enjoyed a good pint from the local Old Pie Factory Brewery.
|
Friendly staff, good range of beers, proper old style pub. Came in a couple of times while visiting Warwick.
|
An excellent pub with a great, well-kept ale range. Friendly bar staff.
|
Good beer and decent pub food. Pints of Purity Pure Gold and Mad Goose were excellent. Very friendly and chatty place, welcoming to a couple of visitors.
|
Probally the best real ale pub in warwick. RCH Pitchfork is the regular and a fine selection of 3 guest ales all in top condition. Hosts mainly mature clientele and a pleasant atmosphere

An obvious must do in Warwick, and not only for the Real Ale range which is the best in Warwick, but it is much more than that. We've never been bothered by Bar bores, there is always a decent crowd in there. It's a bit of a treck when visiting the town, particularly if you arrive by train, but it is worth it. Good clean and an adult crowd and the best toilets for miles.

Beer range good but often too cold. Take ear plugs, customers and staff are know alls

Every pub has one and this pub is no exception...the 5'6" baldy who reckoned he played goalie for England schoolboys..ah! well....he was friendly enough talking about the pub and Warwick in general. Tried 2 of the bitters and they were good..I will be back to try the grub which I have been told is good.

Best pub this end of warwick.
|
Take out of it the to old men in the corner and the young OTT person on the bar this is still a really good place to drink.
|
It must be 12 months since I last visited the 'Old Four Penny Shop' Not far from the race course. It always has 5 or 6 ales on offer. On this visit we had Lady Godiva and Best from the warwickshire Brewery, Wetheroak 'Libity', R.C.H. 'Pitchfolk' and Theakston 'XB'. Serves food and has a good wine list. One of Warwick's best places. 8/10
|
Not bad. Needs a refresh inside but the beer is good. RCH Pitchfolk was good if somewhat lively.
|
New pub for me. Warwick has a high class of pub and high standards for it beer. This place is another really good pub. I drank RCH pitchfork. Themenu looked good but we were to early.
|
I visited last evening and whilst the ale range and quality was excellent, the service was appalling, a young man who was behind the bar couldn't have been less interested or less welcoming. The pub was half empty and if this is normal service you can se why

We have always enjoyed the Old Fourpenny Shop for its range of beers, always in great condition and always an interesting range. For an old building the pub lacks some character, its rather sterile at the front, maybe this is the hotel aspect coming through. It's still great for the beers and a chat though.

Ideal situation for us caravanners. Couple of minutes walk from the Caravan Club Site on the racecourse. Very busy on Friday night with a good range of beers. The Pitchfork from RCH was excellent. The other good quality ales I sampled included Pig On The Wall from Black Country, Stonewall from York and UXB from White Star.

One always enjoys a visit here, albeit that the heating is usually too intense! However, the ales are nicely varied and very well kept. The OFS has some quite excellent accommodation both within the main building, and in a courtyard setting at the rear.

Dear me... how could this pub get rated 7.5 when it is the jewel of the Midlands for ale quaffers?
Very comfortable smart drinking area.
As Nick says they always have at least 6 excellent beers on, and the landlord treats them like his bairn.
The Pitchfork is always on, and is manner from heaven for lovers of straw coloured hoppy ales. Hard to beat? Nay impossible.
If you get the chance to try their home made chips (served with steak sandwiches etc well worthwhile.
There is good quality accommodation, and the owners can be entertaining.

Lovely real ale bar close to racecourse. Usually 6 good quality beers to choose from including RCH Pitchfork.
