Pleasant pub, nice staff and an excellent drop of Badger beers. Food looked good value too

Rude aggressive inflexible manager and mediocre food. I've never written a review before but I am compelled after a terrible time here. We waited over an hour and 10 mins (it didn't seem that busy) and despite asking after 45 mins and being told it's on its way, then you are next (we weren't) it took another 25 mins for the food to come. My fish pie was sloppy full of a frozen fix mix, but piping hot. The chops were awful. The nice bar staff apologised (my children were on the verge of tears) but they couldn't even organise bread in under 15 mins that came after the long awaited food. So the bar staff offered free drinks but we asked ti have ice cream for the 2 children instead...but on asking the manager refused, he says no one complains about the wait and it was just tough luck as the pies take a long time. On saying if we knew that we wouldn't have ordered pies (for 2 out of a party of 6) - or they should put a note on the menu. He wouldn't agree and was very rude and aggressive - recommend you avoid this place until there is a new management team.

On the quayside in Poole, it is a very long deep pub with the bar on the left hand side. There is a good selection of Hall and Woodhouse beers. Seating and décor is very basic with bare wooden floors and plain wooden chairs. Not a pub for comfort. Beer is rather expensive.

One of several pubs on The Quay that make the most of the pleasant views and provide some outside seating, this is perhaps somewhat more of a traditional pub than some of it’s compatriots and is a pleasant enough place to stop for a pint.
It’s a single room bar with dark wood flooring, a few oak beams on parts of the ceiling and wood cladding elsewhere. A couple of old beer barrels had been pressed in to use as tables for you to rest your pint on and there were various nautically themed pictures on the wall such as boats and fish. Some wood and glass partitions on the right separated the area in to booths with leatherette bench seating around a table. A small raised area at the rear had wood panelling on the walls.
The menu looked to concentrate mainly on fish dishes, and price wise these appeared to be a step up from your usual pub grub with most of the main courses somewhere in the £12 - £15 range. We didn’t eat though, so can’t comment on the quality. Staff seemed quite switched on and were often seen wiping down tables when they were vacated.
Beers on tap were all from the Hall & Woodhouse stable with their Tanglefoot, Badger and Hopping Hare. The solitary cider was Stowford Press.

Lovely pub this one. Nice beer and service. love people watching, great time in here.

The Poole waterfront has a remarkable selection of pubs and this is perhaps the best of them, with a full range of Badger beers. Look out for the live music; this may be your nest chance to hear bossa nova this side of Rio!

Classy establishment with a good selection of beers form Hall and Woodhouse (note the bottled beers) and somewhat pricey high-concept food. Compare and contrast with the more homely Poole Tavern next door

Stopped for a welcome pint on a hot day, chose this on the Quay due to BITE. Quite reasonable really, quiet and calm inside with a few benches out the front. The beer was adequate from the Badger range. The pub goes back a long way and a trip to the toilets needs a map and compass, but all in all quite an enjoyable place to stop and watch the world go by.

Lovely atmosphere and good selection of beers/cider. Shame about the boy behind the bar who had a tantrum when asked to fill a drink to the pint line. I later saw him kicking up a fuss over getting an old guy a glass of water (who had just spent an extortionate amount on plain looking food.) Recommended, just avoid stroppy-mcgrumpy-knickers.

What a great pub with great staff. Easily the best pub on the town quay.
|
One of the best pubs down the Quay in poole, food is good, most Staff are good, esp. Holly, landlord is great.
|
since the old tenants left the place has gone down hill.. still a lovley pub but it lacks the personality and charm the old land lords gave the place. they have tryed to carry on the prevous quality of food but unfortunatly it has not happened
|
As far as Hall and Woodhouse pubs go the beer in here is pretty good. The food is okay...if nothing special...the main problem is the seeming lack of staff...i waited at least ten minutes at an empty bar waiting to get served...i comparison to some of the other hell holes on the quay however, it is certianly one of the better ones 7/10

Have used this pub in the past and found it to be the best pub on the "quay" and have always been happy to go back there.visited yesterday for lunch...the beer was kept well...I had Pickled Partridge,However the guy behind the bar who I believe may be the landlord would not top up to the full pint and even after Isaid ok kept arguing about it.my friend and I both found the food mediocre and expensive for what it was! Talking to a local trader we were told it had changed hands(still same familly),we will not be returning even on bike nights in the summer!

Definately a must for anyone on a pub crawl in Poole old town, and although I have yet to try the food, the portions seem generous to say the least!

Lovely well kept badger beer, go 4 it!!!
|
A lovely pub with great food and nice beer - had a nice pint of "thrice hopped" hopping hare in the proper glass :)
The service was great, and the food was probably the best pub food on Poole Quay. In three nights in Poole we drank there one night after dinner, then ate there the remaining two nights. The staff were happy to put things on a tab for us (a rare sight in a pub these days) without even keeping a card behind the till, and arranged a taxi for us at the end of each evening. Would really recommend for anyone living in or visiting poole :)

Good food and beer. Like a previous writer, I am not too happy with the interior design. It is still, IMO, the best pub on the Quay.

Had a lovely pint of Pickled Partridge and a lovely soup to go with it.Good location on the Quay and friendly staff.

Food is excellent simple without being pretentious. Beer is well worth a visit on its own. This pub has obviously been revamped by a brewery architect who has damaged much of the beauty of what is obviously an old pub. Of my brief tour of the pubs in this town this one stands very high for its food and its beer...and very good staff.
|
Good food, nice staff, kid friendly - the beer's not bad either.
|
A great pub with friendly staff. The food was excellent.
|
Food good, the soups are a must. Staff are friendly.
|
What a nice pub, foods is the best on the Quay, but its very dark in the pub, beers good, staff are great
|
To be fair GP, there is a three year gap between my entry and your entry. I'm always happy to set the record straight however as this is now a far more pleasant place to have a drink. I'll never get to grips with Hall & Woodhouse beers though. Just don't like them
|
Under the new management (been in less than a year) the Portsmouth Hoy has become the best pub on the Quay for food, and is a good place for a session if you like Badger/Tanglefoot.
|
Seems an OK type of pub, certainly not as bad as the first reviewer makes out.

If there is a decent pub left on Poole Quay this isn't it. About time this town adopted the barred from one barred from all policy then you might not get the dregs that have previously been barred from the King Charles etc drinking in here.
