Lovely pub in an amazing location, nestled on the estuary and surrounded by old multicoloured cottages. Very busy which is always a good sign. Tribute and Beaver on hand pumps, but I'm sure they'll be more as we leave these Covid lock downs behind. Good mix of locals an tourists. Small terrace overlooking the beautiful estuary and quirky crazy golf course on the front!!

Well, when I go to a new town, i always look here to see which pubs to go to. This is marked as the best in Appledore. Tried to get in on the Friday night but just too busy with kids, people eating meals etc. Came back on the Sunday and much quieter. Got served by Captain Jack Sparrows brother. Found the lighting very harsh and much too bright but obviously a popular place, as still bust. Tribute wasn't the greatest but passable.

Great location when you find it. Beverages very reasonable. Pub needs a bit of a clean though. 7.5/10.

An attractive pub in a great location overlooking the estuary. The outside patio which faces directly on to the estuary is not especially big, and I imagine soon fills up in the sunny weather. There are about half a dozen picnic benches here, and some blue mosaic tiling as a backdrop.
The pub itself consists of a central, carpeted bar that has a long bar counter at the back with an impressive, highly polished wooden top. A plasma was just inside the door showing the Grand Prix, although there was no discernable sound. To the right is a stone fire-place with a stags head mounted up above it. Up a few steps to the left is a long narrow bar with plenty of windows offering further views of the estuary. To the right, again up a couple of stairs is a bar with laminate flooring, a pool table, darts board and a small fire-place with a wood burning stove.
Beers on tap were Dartmoor Best, Doombar, Tribute and Bays Devon Dumpling. Ciders were Thatchers Gold and Cornish Rattler.

Had an enjoyable meal here in september 2011. Good well cooked steak and very nice fish of the day. Shame about the outdated decor but bar appeared extremely well stocked in liquers and shots... so we had to partake! Staff friendly.

Great pub one of the best i have ever been to. Inside has a great atmosphere with a resturant overlooking the estuary. The best part of it though is the view from the beer garden right on the sea wall. I can think of few beer gardens with a view better! It was very relaxing watching the tide coming in over a few pints of thatchers gold which were gorgeous. The place dosen't rip you off as well like alot of tourist places do. 5.80 for two pints these days is good. 10/10 we will be back!

Down in Appledore for a week and visited the Beaver Inn 4 times. The beer was good, always 3 pumps on and the cider was ecellent with at least 2 local ones on. The bar was well staffed and the staff were helpful and knowledgeable or would find out if they did not know. Both locals and tourists were using the bar. There is regular music too. The atmosphere was friendly. Ate in the restaurant on the last evening, the fish was fresh and succulent. It was 27 for two main courses and a shared pudding - a reasonable price for a great meal. The riverside location and the big patio area to sit out on as the sun set - well just brilliant.

The Beaver is in a great location with a sunny garden giving lovely water views. It deserves better than the very ordinary, overpriced food, tatty dated decor and dour, unfriendly staff who work there.
The staff really are astonishingly rude. Unable to believe that anyone so miserable and unwelcoming would work in the hospitality industry, I asked a stony-faced barman why all the staff were so miserable, he replied that the place was full of tourists.
I wouldn't go back to the Beaver and would recommend tourists spend their money elsewhere. These people don't deserve your hard earned cash - and what's more they won't even smile whilst they take it from you.

Visited the Beaver recently for a meal. Having eaten here several times previously we have always been happy with the food, beer and service. It seems though things have taken a turn for the worse. The service was very slow and the staff seemed uninterested in providing anything resembling an adequate service. When we looked around we were obviously not the only guests who were experiencing a long wait. Only one table had food on it the remaining seven had guests waiting patiently. It also has to be noted that the food portions have been drastically reduced, My main course was a very small lamb shank that could only be described as a starter meal. The sticky toffee pudding tasted great but was again woefully small. Admittedly almost all the tables were occupied and it was during the Easter holidays. Was there a problem with the chef? who knows, nobody explained. We did not complain, but won't be returning for a long time. Overall poor value at premium pub prices.

Visited this pub recently, food horrible, the chilli beef was recycled, tasted like minced beef in gravy! and expensive. Staff couldn't care less if they served you or not, in particular the dreadful old guy who is trying to be a rasta. Better food at the neighbouring pub The Royal George, which has the same wonderful view, but without the attitude.

Good food, service and clientele. Book a table if you want to eat and ask for a view after checking the tidetables to get the most of it.

didn't eat here but had a few pleasant drinks. Great view, good atmosphere with some live music on Saturday night, and of course.. the stag!

On holiday last week Thought we would have a meal as had a good review. Menu looked good as chief had 10 years experience. We arrived at 7PM one table left so thought were lucky. The first few requests for wine were out of stock The pork medalions were sent back twice as center was still raw, My daughters beans on toast burnt on underside, wifes tagliatelle was brown with tinned sweetcorn. We complained the pork was taken of the bill it wasnt eaten, The young staff serving food were trying their best but admitted the chief couldn't cope

Now probably the best pub in the area - especially on a saturday night when the place is in full swing. The beer is the best in Bideford or Appledore (though that's not saying much). Friendly, too.

Friday lunchtime visit, Doom Bar, Otter and some Cottage stuff on as ales, Otter was good, Cottage had a haze. We ordered food which was universally approved. Even my kids ate it which was a miracle (6 and 2 years old). Will come back here on next visit.

The location of this pub is excellent, with a good view over the water. Parking is extremely difficult on this narrow street. But it makes the approach to the pub all the better. The service was none too attentive. After ordering a half pint, the barmaid decided to start pouring a pint whilst chatting to her fellow barmaid. We only managed to get her attention at the third time of asking. The three real ales were Sharps Own & Doom Bar and Teignworthy Neap Tide. Sams Poundhouse cider is also served, alongside Cornish Rattler & Pear Rattler. Atmospheric pub spoilt by the service. Perhaps we caught them at an off moment.

This is our most favourite place to eat in North Devon. The fish dishes are superb and all cooked from fresh. Great atmosphere. The service is first class, Patsy is lovely and very professional.

Couldn't get in here on the saturday and sunday as the place was rocking but managed to visit every other night for the week, staff very friendly and used by lots of locals. seems to be a pet lovers pub as countless people came in with their dogs. Ate 3 nights in the restuarant excellently cooked. didn't have a bar meal there but from what i saw being served up to the customers, it looked really good and plentiful. best pub in appledore as far as we were concerned

Beer OK, food - typical pub stuff and not very exciting. Friendly staff and a great view over the estuary

Visited on a Weds evening. Nothing special about the interior but its position on the quay is lovely. Very pleasant welcome from the bar staff. Bit picky about "waiting" to be seated at our reserved table for a meal but if its because they try to organise things we should be grateful. Fish was great. We wanted to have a couple of pints before eating and they were fine about that, simply asking us to say when we were ready. Nice relaxed place. I'd go back.

Friendly and helpful. Excellent landlord. Very busy at times - especially when there is music (e.g. Shine, a vastly talented jazz trio). Beer is well-kept - locally brewed Mainbrace by the Jollyboat Brewery of Bideford is much loved. We make a sixty-mile round trip three or four times a year to enjoy the lively ambiance. Some well-organised charity events are sometimes arranged as are regular jazz events. The sea views from the upper level make this a pleasant place to eat.

Can get overrun with children at mealtimes. Better in the evening.

Odd place, really. The staff seemed perplexed that we wanted to be seated, amazed we wanted to order, confused when we asked for the check and laughed when we mentioned the chips were raw. Service was inept. Food not very nice. A bit on the drab side. Locals seem to like it a lot though. Great views. Always busy, but the food we were served was carelessly made and thoughtlessly served.

More of a 'standard' pub than the nearby George. 80s-modern interior. Friendly, and a good range of drinks. Good views from the dining room bit of the split-leve bar (which sometimes doubles as a disco). Had some great times here.
