Poor in every sence of the word.

I used to go here a lot but this business is clearly in its death throws. Arrived on Sunday afternoon and was met by a harrassed and unhappy-looking staff member who made no eye contact and simply nodded when we asked for a 'table for two'. We waited in vain for service, so I went up to the unstaffed bar to see if I could figure out what bottled bitter/ale they might have. I couldn't see what beer they had as the bar was stacked with unwashed empty glasses so I sat down again. Place looked a bit scruffy, prices have gone up on the food whilst the variety of dishes and the actual number of staff has dropped. Eventually, when it became clear that we weren't going to get served we just got up and left. The diners looked sympathetic, the few staff we could see didn't bat an eyelid. Went round the corner to the pub at 5 Wharf St. Needless to say the contrast was striking: food was excellent ( very nice roast pork belly with a pint of Doombar) and the staff were really friendly.

This used to be a fantastic restaurant to visit, however recently it has gone downhill. Service is slow but friendly, food is expensive and a little hit and miss. When its good its fantastic but when its bad its overpriced and leaves you feeling dissapointed.

They should turn it back into a church.

Just gone into administration as per notice on the doors.

I came to this place when it first opened and it was the hottest place in town, you could not fault it. But a few years on and what can i say! it has not moved on with the times, the food is the same if anything they have got lazy and sloppy. I booked a table for valentines and when we got there they did nothing special on the tables or the music, the lighting was bright and stark which created no atmosphere. The food was below par and when it came to pay they really did not care for my money, i could have walked out without paying easily!
I wont be going back unless they change the concept, menu, staff and lighting!

Me and my partner had lunch here last Saturday and really enjoyed it - spur of the moment decision!! The converted church was amazing and the outside garden area which is very new just adds more character to the building - modern but elegant. Food was lovely and price was nice will be returning and have told lots of friends.

Its been said before and will be again places have highs and lows this restaurant 3/4 years ago was the place to eat, not any more now part of a large chain its going down in all things service quality etc. but not price, there are far better places to eat in Godalming or if your driving try some of the village pubs here abouts.

We have visited this gastro pub/restaurant over the last 7 years. Sadly, we feel it has declined (though not the prices) and there is now serious local competition. A Monday night - very quiet, but we were warned that the kitchen might be closed (at 8.45pm. Red snapper was inedible, overcooked and impenetrable. Ditto the duck. It's significant to note that the Bel & Dragon group (4 restaurants) was offloaded in 2007 by Gourmet Holdings because it was making a loss. It's now owned by Ultimate Leisure but ther's not much evidence to date that there's any improvement for the cutomer.

Went for convenient location (family re-union). Great atmosphere, very good food. Not looked for, so very pleasant surprise. Decor is very impressive. Conversion from origins as a church done very well.

Had a wonderful meal here after being let down by another local pub. The female Manager seated us straight away and the service was had was friendly and attentive. Food was much better than it was a year ago and the menu and Sunday roasts special's are well worth the money. Much improved and still with the breataking interior.

Stroller the chain has been sold now we will have to wait to see if they change anything. We found it an up market restaurant rather than a pub.
|
The whole chain of 3/4 Bel and Dragon Restaurants are for sale if you have a few million. Not as good as in the past.
|
Personally i think it's over priced. It is a lovely restaurant but 20 pounds for a steak then having to pay extra for veg and potatoes? come on!

The Bel and Dragon is truly a superb restaurant with a beautiful setting and decor, friendly and attentive staff, a wide and varied menu and simply fantastic food. True, it is not as cheap as some other local pubs, but on a pro rata value for money rating, it shoots any other bog standard Wetherspoons, Slug and lettuce, gastro pub or any other surrey venue I have visited absolutely out of the water.
Often it is worth paying that bit extra for the great experience and memories, and the Bel and Dragon is the very example of this. Bearing that in mind, you can still eat and drink there for 15 per head.Great stuff!

A restaurant not a pub really. The food is ok to good but not of the standard you'd expect to match the high prices. It smacks of a restaurant run by a chef because you have to take what kind of potatoes the chef decides should come with your main, and there is a comment on the end of the menu about if your meal takes a while to come tough they might be busy.

I would say this is my second favourite pub after The Swan in Ash Vale - but it's a misnomer to call this place a pub.
The food and service are both immaculate. It has a varied menu, and I was very impressed with the professionalism of the (predominantly young) staff.
It isn't cheap, but I wouldn't call it over priced either. Adequate staff training and beautiful surroundings have to paid for somehow after all.
We were lucky enough to be here for New Years Eve and it was awesome!

This is not a pub, and be careful not to ask the staff if you can have rice instead of potatoes with your meal...you get what it says on the menu end of the food through was fine, the drink though was exorbitantly expensive a glass of house red cost a few pennies short of a fiver c'mon guys

Strictly speaking the Bel & The Dragon shouldn't be listed here as it's not a pub. But hey - well worth visiting just to stand at the bar and admire this imaginative conversion from an old church. If you're going to eat you'll have to dig deeper into your wallet than you'd have expected. Then head off toward Guildford and stop off at The Three Lions (The Scratchers) to get absorbed in their live music (Sat & Sun nights). Only half a mile up the road!

Converted church to Restaurant. Very beautiful building with good quality food. But over priced and Very Surrey. A local
