New Inn, Etchinghillback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The best feature of the new inn is the beamed eating area, which is 90% of the floor area.a small area with lovely leather settees for just having a pint,or plenty of stools at the bar.i wanted a pint before eating, but the owner quickly put a oversized menu in my hand and directed me to a reserved table.the guest beer was lovely, but wine was served in a small chubby glass, not the elegant glasses already on the table.the starter of three scallops covered in a cheese ,runny sauce ,was not worth nearly £7.my partner had goats cheese on a bed of rocket, but there was no rocket.and it was purely a piece of goats cheese on a salad .the sirloin steaks were tasty, and the real chips were a treat.its a pity i had to leave my table after 10 mins waiting for the mustards ordered when the steaks were presented.a voucher for wine was given on paying the bill, which was nice.overall the new inn is a nice place to visit,in a lovely location.

I live local which is very convenient for me as I love to go there and visit often with both my family and friends. The food is lovely, along with the service, the staff are very welcoming and efficient. All for a very reasonable price; they do excellent set menus and have lots of tasty dishes to choose from.

I've started frequenting the New Inn on a regular basis after visiting for the first time with friends a few months ago. The food is of the highest quality and reasonably priced and the staff are very welcoming and accomodating. I've sampled the beers on offer, of which there is an impressive selection, and they are absolutley faultless, alongside a lengthy and impressive selction of quality wines. All in all, I would highly recommend this pub to any potential new customers, and will keep visiting myself for some considerable time.

I've been visiting The New Inn on a regular basis for many years now and in my view it remains unsurpassed by any pub-restaurant in the area. You can always rely on The New Inn for top class food and a good night out. There's a great atmosphere at the Sunday night quiz and the real ales are spot on with good a selection. Clean, friendly, relaxing - I highly recommend it.

The New Inn, Etchinghill
Over-rated. The food is OK but too expensive for what it is. Background music is far too loud and intrusive. Service is fine and the beer is OK but there is nothing here to really make you want to come back. Go a few miles further on, to the Kings Arms at Elham, have a good meal at decent prices, and some good beer.

a real curate's egg of a pub. The current licensee's should be congratulated for a really effective resoration. They should also be congratulated for the generally high standard of food presented. The service is too often rather slack - occasionally verging on the dismissive and once outright rude - whilst the ale is kept by someone who clearly has an inkling of an idea what to do but is probably a lager drinker. The Masterbrew is OK if you like it heavily chilled and gizzed up.
In summary, a pub to take your aunt out to but not a pub to go drinking at.

Went here on saturday with my family. The food was great with a good wine list and the staff were so friendly and catered for our every need. The chef even came out to meet us at the end of our meal. A very enjoyable night and we will definately be returning.

I'm a regular visitor to this pub, and the the reason I keep returning is due to the very high quality of food and value for money. Granted it is mainly a restaurant, but the beers are in kept fine condition, and the staff are really lovely. I've seen them go well out of their way several times to make sure customers are happy - they always try to accommodate. My policy is its always best to let them know your preferences and, in my experience, really good beer and terrific meals in generous portions. Top notch in my book.

I'm on the techman's side. Funny - the 5thearl's usually a pretty sound judge.

Whoops - a bit of a typographical error yesterday. The roast of the day ( Beef ) was 6.95. Lovely large, thick slices, Yorkies, Roasties and four other veg! Yum Yum!

I've just returned from having lunch here. It was busy, but in spite of that, service was friendly, prompt and efficient.
A well presented pint of Courage Directors served in fine condition was an excellent accompaniment to my lunch of roast beef. The lunch was 7.95 and very tasty, and considering how busy it was, I cannot grumble about the 20 minute wait for food.
I'm going to "up" my score to 8/10, and furthermore do not believe the previous poster's comment is typical of this pub.

My wife an I went there for a meal having booked a table. The beer was fine, and the menu was full with the exception on the puddings which were uninspiring to say the least.
We therefore decided to have a starter, I had garlic bread which was just that, nothing to shout about. I ordered a sizzling combo for my main course and was presented with a small dish with 2 small strips of chicken, a few bite size pieces of beef and 2 prawns with a few pieces of red onion and noodles. To go with it I had half a ramekin of rice with sweet peppers. I asked if that was it, and was told "yes", so I ordered a portion of chips to bulk it out a bit.
Whilst eating we wanted another drink, after waiting 5 minutes I gave up my attempt to find a waitress and went to the bar to get my own drink. The barmaid was more interested in finishing her conversation than serving me, and didn't even suggest they bought them over to the table.
All in all, small portions and bad service, I shall not be going back.

Pretty awful. We dropped in by chance for a couple of pints, and immediately regretted it. The beer, admittedly, was passable, and if you want to sit in the garden then maybe it's OK, but otherwise you'd have to be eating to get anything out of this place. The service was rather bored, and despite the numerous signs about the 'No Smoking Policy', it didn't prevent a member of the kitchen staff standing next to us and blowing smoke all over us. Shan't be going again.

I've been here for lunch on a couple of occasions this year. The food is good and reasonably priced and the Bombardier certainly passed muster.
Notwithstanding the fact that it's now a restaurant selling beer, rather than a pub selling food - which is the only way that a lot of these small country "pubs" can survive these days - I'm happy to give it 7/10.

This is an excellent pub in my opinion, it has nice wines and beers ( Shepherd Neame) and the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. The chef comes out to chat after the main courses are out. 3 course meal for two including booze is usually 45-50 and we go there every other month or so. Staff xmas party last year, excellent wines and feedback re food etc was very positive and we are looking to go back again this year. When I came here the pub had a rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 2 users which I think is harsh so thought I would post this.
