They're back!!! Just been for Sunday lunch at the Agar Arms. Best pub Sunday lunch I've had for ages. New Manager Alec, ably aided by Sharon and the others are getting it right. Lashings of well cooked food and pleasant service at reasonable prices. Well done!!!!!!!

Well what a difference to the food in this pub now!!. Four of us went on 27th May 2009 having not been for a while. Sam Smiths have destroyed what was an iconic pub renowned for its food and steaks since i can remember first going in the 70s. We got there just after opening at 18.30 to get a seat, the car park had 4 cars in, every one must be at home to watch the football we thought. We went in no problem getting a table, then we found out why. Sam Smiths had decided to put there own food in, the menu was nothing special and only ONE 8oz steak on offer!!. We already had our drinks and had opened a tab, but on looking at the menu we were considering leaving as it was what my friend described as "School Dinners", defrosted frozen food, but we decided to stay to see what the food was actually like. The stake and ale pie didn't taste bad but nothing special at all, no more real chips and the veg was half cooked and rubbery. My wife has some sort of chicken with a watery tasteless white sauce, not good at all!!, and all the plates had shrunk to half there normal size. We feel sorry for the tenants who up until recently had a thriving business which has been destroyed by the brewery, and it would seems that every Sam Smiths pub that had food has gone the same way. The reason so i was told later by the landlord of another pub is that Sam Smiths have a company in Tadcaster that produced food for the airlines but lost the contract so to compensate they have put there sub standard airline (school dinners) into there pubs. We will not be going again, and judging by the comments of other customers in the car park they wont be ether. If you want a cheap night out with nice surroundings and pleasant staff but very poor food this is the place, four main meals, four pints of beer (good beer at that) two soft drinks 35.00 quid a come down from our usual bill of around 120.00 You better go soon as we don't think this pub will be open for much longer. Great steaks and grills, and a decent pint of Sams. The villagers of Warthill could do a lot worse.

Like all Sam Smiths pubs, it is an ordeal for someone who doesn't drink beer. There are no good whiskies, the cola is own-brand, the gin too, and I found the red wine sorely wanting too.
However, the food, location and ambience are excellent. I would definitely go again since the overall experience is good enough to overcome the difficulty involved in the drinks order.

Very nice place indeed. Inside seems mostly to be dedicated to food service, from what looks like a good menu. However, you can grab a seat, and sit enjoying a beer, inside or out. Great place.

I have visited this pub many times, the food has allways been exelent. It best to be there for opening to ensure a seat. The last time i went about a week ago, i had the steak and ale pie, normaly in pubs you get a small oval dish with a huge puff crust on the top and below 3 inches or air then the meat. This pie was fantastic, thepie was about 4 inches square and 2 1/2 inches deep with loads of gravy and meat around it, the meat was so tender it fell apart, i can be o bit of a pig but could not eat everything that was on the plate. My wife had steak diane which was just as good Top marks again for this great country pub. Going agian in about half an hour!!!!!

Basking in past glories, when it was push and shove to get a table for their amazing value steak. All of the pub is devoted to food, which with current trade makes it somewhat desolate. Pleasant duck pond outside. Takes a bit of finding- turn at the bend.

I remember years ago when I was a kid we used to go here with my folks as they used to have an amazing steak menu and it was dirt cheap for massive portions.. you used to have to get there 15 mins before it open to get a table in the old daysso on a return visit to home I made my folks take me there.,,and I was not disappointed.
The deco is essentially the same (cozy bar and fire at the front with a more modern extension on the back) and the menu has not changed that much, which was great. Good generous portions and home made chips, which are fantastic worth the drive there for the chips alone.
The BeerI now live in London so as you can imagine paying 1.26 a pint is always good. Admittedly it is a Sam Smith pub (we were drinking Old Brewery), which I thought, was good, however I am such drinking flat beer in London so it tasted great to me
