Great pub split between two bars. The front bar has what seems to be a post-war decor and the back pure Victorian. They have a regular rotation of events and activities for example on the Thursday night we went there was a sea chanty session! I saw advertised that they also do a vinyl night, where you can bring your own records and sign up for a DJ slot. A wide range of beers and cosy seated area. What''s not to like?

12 - what's the pub like?!

I've read several of your reviews lezford....all very good and pretty accurate.

I had heard of this pub before but I thought it was a 'spoons! Its very definitely not a 'spoons, it doesn't have rakes of old men, cheap food or poor and slow service.... in fact it’s the absolute opposite.
10 hand pumps which are made up of 4 regular cask ales and 6 guests with the guests changing regularly. The wife and I spent a few hours here several Saturday’s ago and I can report that Bingham's Vanilla Stout @ 5.0% was on great form.
Packed when we got here just after 5pm and then got even busier when the band came on from 6pm playing a mix of Blues and Country they were very good and well received by the up for it local crowd.
There’s a quieter bar on the opposite side of the front bar where it seemed that conversation was king, the pub also has rooms above and a bar billiard table.
Out of the 6 pubs we visited in one day and evening in Hastings this was my favourite. Really quick and good service, great choice of ales, live music and a friendly bunch of locals. Score’s highly from me.

Beer range and condition excellent in this pleasing farrago of drinking spaces.
Dropped in recently in search of mulled wine, reasonable range of local brews and the usual lagers, porter etc. We got there about 1pm and the place started to fill up fast.
I tended to avoid this pub, as the real ales were always undrinkable, but if halfabitterman is right, and the beers are now more hit than miss, I'll give it another go. Watch this space.
Now the Jenny Lind's a free-house the beer is a lot more hit than miss. Worth taking another look at.

Lovely Betty Stoggs.

nice pub and lots of potential, gret looking beer garden, but a very poor selection of drinks. There is no excuse with all that is available for stocking Strongbow these days.
The Jenny Lind has a nice feel to it and you can now get good food (provided by the eaterie across the road). That said, the real ales are poorly kept which is not surprising as my sense is the staff and management would struggle to recognise a decent pint if you put one in front of them. Shame - it could be a good pub if they could get the beer right.
Very busy when I visited with a good band playing and a fine atmosphere. Good choice of ale, all in all seems a reasonable place though nothing out of the ordinary.
Decent range of beer. Seems promising, but hard to tell on a freezing monday in february
Purpledragonfly - I got physically thrown out of the Hastings Arms because my 2 year old daughter got a stroppy on. I don't know of a more family unfriendly pub in Hastings other than the Arms. We were in there at 2pm when we were chucked out, the barmaid even tried to refuse to let my wife in to pick up the buggy.
Spent a pleasant Saturday evening in here. The staff were friendly if slightly ditzy but I'd go again. Not sure of the decor, board games and a road atlas in the book shelf. The answer is to not analyse and just enjoy being in a pub in Hastings where you stand a good chance of getting out alive.
Sat in their garden at 6pm to about 7.15pm with 3 friends and a baby girl of 2 years old (so absolutely no bad language) and told to keep the noise down because of the neighbours! After complaining at their rudeness a raspberry blown behind our backs - absolute idiots - we will never return and we live in Hastings and have regularly gone to that pub! In all our time here we have never been treated so badly - go to the Anchor or the Hastings Arms for friendly service!

The Jenny Lind wasnt on our radar of to do pubs for our Hastings mini crawl but a quick glimpse of the 5 hand pumps through the window deemed it worthy of a lucky dip visit. The interior consists of 2 bars, the fairly straight forward main bar at the front and a smaller paneled bar at the rear. The place has a slightly scruffy feel with random furnishings and features that include an old upright piano, open log fire and, for some reason, an American petrol pump. Music flyers and promotional cards are dotted about across the window sills advertising whats on in the pub (live music often a feature) and the town in general. Stairs lead up to a surprisingly attractive split level beer patio with probably the worlds largest pub umbrella. There are views of the cliffs in the distance and I could happily spend a few hours here listening to the seagulls. The aforementioned 5 pumps offered Courage Directors, Deuchers, Doom Bar, Youngs and Old Peculiar which probably as good a range of Ales as you will find in town. Quality was fine and the prices were a bit more reasonable than some of its competitors. For a warm August Saturday night it wasnt too busy or rowdy and all in all, it was a bit of an unexpected bonus. Certainly a place I would add to my Hastings recommendations.
Went here on 28th June after finding The Stag empty and unsuitable, the meal here was excellent and the beer was excellent and everyone in the pub seemed to be having a very good time.
The Jenny Lind is somewhere we normally walk straight past on the way to and from the FILO, but today we popped in for a pint. A pint we could have had half a gallon here. Five hand pumps is more than you'll see in very few places outside London. This is a pub which will certainly be added to the Hastings list for future visits. And its got two separate and distinct gents toilets. Two I counted them. How posh is that?
this pub has sadly gone downhill.New owners have managed to loose the music license and the beer has got so bad we wont drink there any more.I hear Scottish and Newcastle are putting in a new manager, lets see if it improves.
Used to class The Jenny as my local, but has gone down hill lately. You could always get a decent pint, quick hot and good quality food from friendly staff. But unfortunatly has become a bit grubby, the atmosphere has changed, and the standard of food has dropped. Staff could do with cheering up aswell. I do hope they can pull things round because it could be a nice pub again.
Not sure if you guys have the same pub here.
The Jenny Lind is a wonderfully warm place. The food might take a while but it is well worth the wait, I had the Fish Pie.
When I was there it was the Jack in the Green festival and the ales were Best, Directors, Bombardier and a Guest ale.
I heartily recommend this place and a welcome stop as you trundle on up to the FILO.
My favourite pub, although my friends won't let me go any more! They have (quite loud) live music some nights, but the atmosphere is different from other pubs in Hastings. You don't always worry that a fight is going to break out for a start...
Large wood panelled front bar with a more intimate, yet still wood panelled, backroom. Good value food from cheesey chips to Sunday lunch with a good range of veggie options. Safe atmosphere with mainly Hasting locals rather than the tourists in the sea front bars. More character inside than appears from the outside. Casks are: Best, Directors, Hen, Bombardier and Guest.
As it says in the disclaimer, you can't take reviews too seriously on a public forum, when you don't know who has an axe to grind from behind their user name...
For what it's worth, I went here for Sunday lunch to spend my holidaymaker pound, and was perfectly happy with the Bombardier and my Sunday lunch. And perhaps I'm not discriminating enough but it looked clean enough to me!
I have had a meal at this place as well and it was rubbish, I cant comment on the kitchens but I am always suspicious when someone registers on this site to comment on just one pub, maybe an interested party?
I have had a meal and a drink at this pub and found it perfectly acceptable. I have aslo seen the kitchens when looking to book a function in the fuction room. They are modern well appointed and clean.
I found this pub depressing and dreary, it lacks identity and my meal was distinctly poor, I will pass by next time.

I can't see why "Going here is a must" it's ok in a plastic sort of way and the food isn't terrible but like most of the old town it is aimed at taking the holidaymakers pounds. It always has new owners and hasn't been really good since it was "The Penny Farthing" many years ago.
Lovely pub with a great atmosphere . It also serves the best beer in the town. Going here is a must
This pub has just been taken over and refurbished very well. It has a great atmosphere and the roast meals on a sunday are very good value. More of a sunday pub than a saturday night pub.
one of the best pubs in hastings old town.good food, good beer reasonable price too.live music on friday nights, nice terrace garden at rear....give it a go
Very welcoming staff and excellent food , even on a Sunday evening .Ample portions and a delicious home made caramelised cheese cake .Reasonable prices too, including a choice of portion size for the roast.Even the smaller size was generous .We will be visiting this pub next time we are in Hastings.
