No, no, and no. Those halcyon days of the Black lion (as the pub was formerly known) are a distant memory now. Functionally it's a perfectly adequate boozer, although i guess that depends on what you look for in a boozer. it does have a large range of real ales, plenty of space, pool table, quiz machine, and sky sports. But in terms of atmosphere it is pretty awful and the decor sense of community has been totally lost.
A real shame.

Seems an okay pub to me. Never had any problems even though it does get a wee bit packed and noisy sometimes!

I have to say I disagree with the recent comments. Although I am slightly biased, I love this pub. The owners Sophie and Danny are great people and I really enjoy the atmosphere. The staff are friendly and the beer/ wine is selection is good. Keep up the fun

A disappointing pub. Noise and no atmosphere. The Wychwood 'Dirty Tackle' was a reasonable drink.

Came into Loughborough for the beer festival, and missed the bus so popped into this pub for a quick one. Had Wychwood Dirty Tackle which was fine. But what a noisy pub. The loud music does nothing to keep drinkers in. It might be a young persons pub, but if so, why was it nearlly empty at around 8pm.

I agree, Hobgoblin is one of my favourite beers, and Wychwood a great brewery, so if no Hobgoblin at least there should be some Goliath or something. Went in in December had a pint of Cains IPA which made me physically ill, wouldnt recommend this place. Saying that, I went in with a student friend and he got us 20% discount, so that made it slightly better!!

I had the same thing happen to me- what's the point of a Hobgoblin pub if there's no Hobgoblin to drink?! Apparently, this is quite common.
The focus seems to be on sport in this pub, not real ale!
|
Well I went in and couldn't get a pint of Hobgoblin!!!
|
This used to be a good pub when it was the Black Lion but like so many in Loughborough it has been ruined by image and name changes, come back Hoskins and John and Jane!!
|
it rocks - the place to be, especially if you're a 'rutherfordian'!! cheers guys (especially dec)! x x x

A great place for an afternoon's drinking, and excellent for sport, football, football and football are all shown and occasionally wrestling can be seen. Well worth a visit if you are in the area...

Great crowd, Couple of barflies too, Christoph Larrypie and Robertos Lemmingos. Make sure you say hello if you manage to pop in. Stella is their tipple....

Looking for a beer fuelled evening with both students and locals, then this is your pub. On experience, best time to frequent is 11.30am, leaving approximately middnight. Oh, and I forgot to mention the superb curry house directly opposite, 30 paces across the road. What more do you want?
