This is a decent corner pub in the Little Chelsea area of the town. There are two distinct areas - a main bar area and a slightly larger area for seating. But, the pub is relatively small. 4 TV screens were showing live football, with 2 showing a Premier League match and a further 2 showing a Championship match. Staff and customers were friendly and happy to recommend their beers of choice. Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter was on. The 3 guests were Long Man American Pale Ale, Gun Extra Pale & Exmoor Exile Apollo. Ciders were Weston's Old Rosie & Thatcher's Stan's Big Apple. Nice community local.

Three ales on handpump, the Hylder blond was o.k. but a tad warm ,worth a visit but I would not hurry back, they offer 10p off on production of a valid CAMRA card ( other Eastbourne pubs have the same offer , the Dew Drop Inn, 15 yards away for one). The decor is that encountered in a gentlemans club, they have Sky Sports and two barmaids who are bored out of their minds, they try but the job is clearly not vocational, eating chocolate is more of a priority, and why not the place was completely devoid of customers.

As you enter the pub, you are confronted with a large area with an odd assortment of furniture laid out in a rather haphazard fashion. The bar had 4 handpumps but only 2 real ales when I was there but they were unusual and from local brewers. At the far end there is a pool table. Although it was Saturday night, I felt that the music was over loud and not very pleasant, causing customers to almost shout to be heard. As a result the noise levels were rather high and it was not very relaxing.

Vistited the pub on a Friday and it was very busy mainly with officestaff.
Expensive beer but in a good condition. Food is maily sausages and pies from all the over the UK.
|
Popped in a couple of times whilst visiting Eastbourne. Beers in good condition including Dark Star American Pale Ale. Also handy for nearby station.
|
Good range of ales but needed topping up when served very short. 10p off a pint for CAMRA members. Nice roof top patio area. Pub was too quiet on both occasions that we visited. Use it or lose it.

Wednesday night is never a great night in a pub nowadays is it? Perhaps try a review after another chance tomorrow lunchtime. Judgement reserved.

Empty pub despite the sunny weather i.e. ideal for drinking. Yet another pub struggling to cope with beer temp on a hot day and at 3.50 for Harveys Best not good enough.

My favourite pub in Eastbourne (of the 10 or so I've been into as an occasional tourist) - very relaxed atmosphere with a somewhat Bohemian approach to decor. The draught ales were all in excellent condition - we found it difficult to choose between Dark Star Partridge Best, Dark Star Black Coffee Pilsner (a seasonal guest - get it while you can!) and Rother Valley Hoppers Ale, so had to keep rotating our choice just to be sure! The two rows of pump clips around the ceiling are testimony to how many guest ales are stocked. All of the bar staff were great without exception - always serving in turn, very friendly and even offering a choice between "straight glass or handle".
The pool table is either free or 50p a game (depending on when you're in), and I'm led to believe there's even a roof terrace garden (not that we were venturing out there in February!). Football is also shown on multiple small screens plus a huge projector, and a real fire was crackling away (with candles on all tables), so very cosy and welcoming. All in all, a superb pub and all you could really ask for!

Visited again recently. Pleasant barmaid, and 3 fairly local real ales on. Tried the Rother Valley Boadicea - nice and light and flavoursome. Worth more regular visits, I think.

Choice of 3-4 ales good servive & good food (excellent sausages)

Went back here just over a week ago and again this afternoon. Today only 2 real ales on Hophead and M & M. Both times the Hophead was definitely flat. I won't bother with this place again.
|
Its practically the same as it was back in Nov 2009. 2 differences I noticed, you now have the choice of straight or jug glasses and CAMRA cardholders get a discount on production of membership card. The hophead was very nice and my buddy enjoyed the Ruby Mild too.

I'd walked right past this place on countless occasions due to the unsavoury looking types hanging around in the doorway, though having bitten the bullet and gone for it, was pleasantly surprised to find a CAMRA endorsed gem, with a pleasant atmosphere, great bar staff and a range of real ales, quirky locals and an interesting looking menu. I say interesting 'looking', as in substance the three sausages from a long menu were so overcooked it was untrue, They'd either been kept warm for a long period of time or had just been cooked forever, they weren't nice.
Another down point; During busy periods you can forget about a quiet pint, the big screen takes over for the sport and Friday & Sat Night brings crowds of students in. During the England Wales Rugby match the bar was also woefully understaffed. Otherwise though it's a nice place to enjoy a drink in Eastbourne and is definately one of the better boozers on South Street. A must for the real alers!

Popped in here a couple of weeks back on a cold Sunday evening. I know Sunday nights aren't the busiest but the place was dead. On the plus side there were 4 real ales on handpump, all of which were local (the place seemed to be CAMRA LocAle accredited). The one I sampled from Rother Brewery was nice enough

This could be a brilliant addition to Eastbourne. Instead the new owners have installed yet more big screen televisions and decided to make it a sports pub (like virtually every other in the town). Expensive and well over 3 per pint. Busy when football is on (and rough) and empty otherwise. A wasted opportunity.

Popped in this afternoon on passing, been meaning to go in for a while and wasnt let down 4 real ales on pump had a pint of 1648 ginger NO1 little bit too strong tasting for my liking (after several pints in Wetherspoons) but still well kept and even got served in a jug, pool table in here 50p a game and sky sports. One of the beeter pubic houses in the 'Bourne'

Liked the place despite the big screen footy on a Saturday afternoon. Bare board floors a nice range of unusual real ales (if perhaps a little too cold) and friendly staff. The lady cleaning the tables told us that they recently took over this place a few weeks back and are intent on doing it up. I was short changed but I'm going to say it was a mistake rather than deliberate.
|
I spent an afternoon here recently, but had to leave due to the depressing music that was being piped out. The barmaid was curt when I walked in and friendly when I left, Im not sure whether to take that as an insult or not?!!
I noticed the big projector screen and table football at the other end of the bar where there are some stairs to a balcony area. Unsurprisingly Harveys bitter was available along with the usual lager suspects.
A weekday afternoon is never going to be the liveliest time but surely depressing music isnt going to pull in the punters.

Just down the street from the railway station. OK for watching football, with the big screen and the TV's. Nothing much more to it, really.
|
this pub is great i aint eaten there yet but the beer is good tastes fresh and freezing cold. The place is great for sports with 1 huge screen 1 plasma and a couple of normal tv's. and the bar woman are well fit

Nice atmoshphere and the locals are really friendly. It is the best place in Eastbourne to watch the football becuase they tend to keep all the undesirable characters out. They are also trying new things to bring the customers in. They run a really good comedy night here and I was amazed to see that some of the comedians I had seen in London and I was watching them here for free. They also do a nice pint of Harveys.

I've always had a good pint and a good time here.
