The King's Head is situated in the fairly touristy village of Kettlewell, which has plenty to attract you here. The pub itself felt a little commercialised and there is a clear focus on food. Nevertheless, the interior does maintain a nice character. There are a few tables outside at the front. Ales were Dark Horse Hetton Pale, Wharfedale Blonde & Tetleys Cask.

Another gastro pub - how many does one village need?
More space to sit than at the racehorses and the chance to try Dark Horse - previously unseen.

Nowhere to sit in the evening if not eating. Just a few stools at the bar. Two pints, a small Gin and Tonic and a small white wine £17!
|
Pub has reopened but aiming firmly at the gastropub market. Not really any space inside for anyone wanting a drink but not food.

Walked past on Saturday and it's closed at present

Visited this pub whilst staying in the Upper Wharfe Valley over the New Year. It's walker and dog friendly and has by far the best range of real ales in the area. Definitely the one to visit if you're in Kettlewell.

My wife and I stayed at the Kings Head for 4 nights last week and found it under new management. Teresa and Tony were so welcoming as we walked in! Basic but spotlessly clean and warm room. Lovely open fire in the bar with a range of great Yorkshire real ales - which we found to be excellent. Meals in the bar were excellent (especially considering that this is not a large hotel) and portions were magnificent! Great locals in the bar who made us feel very welcome. Will we be back? You bet your boots!!

Read some of the earlier reviews and wasn't sure calling at The Kings Head last week was a good idea. However, we were all very hungry and nowhere else in the village was serving food so we took the plunge.
I have to say that I wouldn't have recognised the place from these earlier comments. We found a nice clean, warm and friendly pub with four good beers on the bar (we tried them all between us so can vouch for the quality), nice thick sandwiches and real home-made chips. Our top layers were wringing wet after a walk over the top from Starbotton and they even gave us coat hangers to dry our clothes over the roaring fire.
Verdict: We all agreed that we'll be back again next time we're in the area.

It is very sad that some people are bitter and twisted. The person masquarading under the names familytraveller and scottishlassie has a vendetta against the landlady and is out to ruin the business of an extemely good pub. Of course everyone is entitled to write either a positive or negative review based on their experience, but when every negative review has been written by ONE PERSON with a grudge using multiple ids, then that person comes under the term OBNOXIOUS TWISTED SADDO who will end up as an old loser that nobody likes.
So take my earlier advice GET A LIFE before its too late.
By the way FANTASTIC PUB were trying to organise a coach trip to Kettlewell and this place is a must visit.

Ale was on the 'turn'. and very 'cloudy'. Unfortunately i do agree with earlier comments. Reviews are about freedom of speech? If i wanted to book a hotel, I like to read positive AND negative reviews . Its a shame those negative comments aren't seen as constructive, they could have been worked on?

It is obvious to anyone with a brain that the last two reviews were written by the same person. But after hearing about the landladys skirt I think I'll definately call here again. I'll probably bring several friends and book in for a week. Nice to hear dogs are not allowed on the funiture. Last time I was here I had a very good pint of Taylors landlord and the meals were very nice.
I wonder if the spiteful reviews written about this pub are anything to do with the glowing reviews about another pub in the village. A message to scottishlassie, familytraveller and any other names you would like to dream up. Get a life.

The most 'publike' pub in Kettlewell in my opinion. There's always a beer from the Yorkshire Dales Brewery at Askrigg plus favourites such as Tetleys, Black Sheep, Golden Sheep and a guest beer.
2 minutes from Fold Farm Campsite which is handy for a beer or two before bed. 7/10

Went in the Kings Head over the Easter weekend and they have new owners, who quite clearly don't really know how to run a pub. We didn't eat there thankfully because everybody we saw had to wait an extremely long time for it. The beer was ok thankfully but the organisation of the pub was somewhat lacking, hopefully they will get better. We stayed in the Blue Bell in Kettlewell who have new owners as well and had the total opposite view to the Kings Head. The Blue Bell had great rooms, great food, great beer and staff who couldn't do enough for you - well worth a visit.

Would say this is easily the best pub in Kettlewell. Great steak pie and portions so big, the veg comes on side dishes. Good and changing range of beer. Had few fine pints of Yorkshire Dales Cragside.
|
Just spent another happy weekend in Kettlewell, and I have to change my mark slightly. I now think the Kings Head is the best pub in the village. The Blue Bell, whilst still having the best food (marginally) is less of a 'local' and the staff can be patchy. The Kings head is such a typical local pub with stone floors and a real fire. I enjoyed the butter tubs beer again.

Had a decent pint of Black sheep in here one lunchtime, but there was no food and it was almost deserted. Nothing wrong with it if you're passing and want a beer, but nothing special to call you back.

A very friendly local, full of friendly locals. Our dogs were made welcome by the staff, and we enjoyed the food, a new basic and small menu but the chips were excellent, the pie was home made (none of this puff pastry nonsense.) The butter tubs real ale was fine too
|
I popped in for a pint after a walk over the Easter Holidays in 2008. The building is nice and the real ales are good, but there was no atmosphere and there were absolutely no bar snacks. No crisps, nuts - nothing at all. And the pub was more or less deserted. Its a shame because it should be wonderful. Its just not!

Local Ales, Good Fire, Warm welcome, Top food (cheers Shelley), Excellent Walking, Dogs (even wet ones) welcome - no need to say anymore
|
Marvellous country pub, dogs more than welcome, very consistant food thanks to Shelley the chef. Made us very welcome.
