Afraid to say that the "Gold" will cease to be a pub after 21st January 2017. Apparently it will be a Greek restaurant, just what Portobello Road needs !

An updated review.. This pub still seems to be going strong since my 1st visit a few years back. Its got a more traditional feel to it than most of the gastro ones along here Meantime beer on tap which was a definite plus. Theres a more prominent restaurant section at the back than what I remember, with some intricate sitting arrangements, inc a ladder to get to a seating area! Don't know what the menu was entirely, but saw oysters and calamari on offer. Would highly recommend this place

Thought this place was manky and smelly. Staff were mainly ornamental, food was naf ( tasteless fish and chips) and 2 different white wines I tried were warm and tasted awful. The pub must make most of profits out of unsuspecting tourists who seek the Portobello experience.

Food and drink pub on the Portobello, has its own special character and very nice staff.

I just wanted to read the reviews of this pub as I used to drink here in the mid-'80's.I remember it as being a small establishment..but I shared a drink with many a celebrity back then..Ian McShane...Pete Wylie....we used to go down to the Sam Smith pub then further down Portobello.Shame it burnt down...but a good hustle and bustle area back then....good vibes.

i've been in here a couple of times when i've been in london and i fell in love with this pub. the bar staff were really friendly and i love the back room with loads of tropical plants. they had harveys(my local brew) as a guest ale which was really nice... lovely pub!

Early evening pint here, varied age and type locals pondering life and times together - good trad feel to the place. Horrible floor tiles though, and not wearing well - spoilt the place's feel somewhat. Floors give much to any place dontcha think? Great bar/pub to visit though. Beer was fine, what little I had.

visited this place a few times when in London, great little place full of character including the smallest toilets I've ever seen, decent choice of ales, laid back, was open later than anywhere around it last time I visited.
|
They keep the music (ahem) interesting in here. Not to my taste but noteable all the same.
Pleasant enough hostelry with a reasonable range of beers. Harveys done the business.

Brakspear does grow on you, though it does have that vinegar 'going off' taste from the off
Ok establishment, not massively big but tradional feel that looks like you need to try it when it is easy to get to the bar
Staff friendly, Music nice. Different feel to other Gastro pubs in the area

Not a fan of Brakspear on trying it for the first time in the Gold....
However - a decent place with enough of a buzz on a saturday lunchtime. Interesting layout and decent music. A good range of beer at the bar.
Worth a visit says terenced.

Redecorated Portobello Gold retains the area out the back for dining. Brakspears bitter makes a change, as does the gorgeous barstaff....
|
The pub has reopened 4 months ago and is back serving beer and food like before the fire. Try it out.

The Portobello Gold has burnt down...

The Portobello Gold welcomed me recently when I stayed in the hotel. Their staff were outstandingly friendly and the wireless network was handy when I had business to do (while drinking a pint!). The selection of beers was surprising - czech, german, belgian and more and my friends loved the wine list, which I think was put together by the owners wife who had been a somelier in France for 15 years. I loved it!! I definitely recommend it, even though I would prefer to keep it a secret - it looks unappealing from the front.
