Many years ago this was a 'Bass House'...how time has changed things!! It's about 3 times the size that it was, but in a way it has lost a lot of it's 'charm'. Now run by Hall & Woodhouse (shitbeersareus.com). The place is unrecognisable, it's a shame really because I liked it the way it was...but 'hey ho' time moves on. This is another pub of mine that brings back memories of a certain 'Karen'.....now I'm living in the past!!! Anyway the beer was good (Badger Best...or First Gold, if you like) and the manager was first class....Highly recomended!!

Like some readers have pointed out, this place is no where near Christchurch, it's nearer to Ringwood. In a village called 'Avon', I believe. Great pub this. I knew it when it was a Bass house, I actually looked after it for a week or two in 1987, Long before Hall & Woodhouse (badbeerRus.com). Great location and very relaxed atmosphere. Spent a weekend here with a Lady called Karen.........oh well......If only we could revisit the past!!! I wish her well.

Good pub grub. The New Queen is a Hall and Woodhouse pub with a good range of their Badger ales available. The food menu is standard pub grub with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. The food itself was above average for what it was; the fish and chips, steak and ale pie, burgers, lasagne etc were all served in ample portions. The high quality of produce was refreshing as some local pubs have a tendency to rely on pre-cooked and mircowaved meals, this certainly wasn't the case here. The service at the bar was polite and efficient, our waitress was friendly and did her job perfectly and with a smile. Atmosphere was a little lacking for a Thursday night during the holiday season, the sheer size of the pub can make it seem a little quiet - it is obviously designed primarily as a food pub. It was quite brightly lit (too much for a country pub?) and decor was in good condition. Large garden with tables, large car park and perfectly acceptable toilets too. I would definitely return for another meal.

Have had a nice gastropub-style meal here but it lacks the cosy atmosphere I like in a pub. Recently had to request a refund and walk out as was waiting for food for over half an hour to be told "it's next in the queue". Not sure if this is a rare occurrence or not but has definitely tainted my view of the place. Does have a good, interesting beer selection though.

pub ready for halloween, a lot of cobwebs everywhere.... is good they don`t need decoration for halloween. food is getting bad, service really bad, the lady who was serving at the till she was crying when it got busy, is like they don`t want any costumers. she said: i`m too stressed...:))))) definitely is not her type of job to enjoy...:))) never back... my ratings: cleanliness: 0 (out 5, 5 brilliant) service: 2 food: 4 drinks: 3 play area : 4 garden: 4 (even though, it was a lot of litter in the garden, and no umbrellas)

again me, some changes on the way at this pub, sorry to hear that, but i think that the managers were ``removed``. i think it was a really bad move, visited again the pub on mother`s day and even if the food was the same as always (that means AWSOME), the service was somehow different from the previous week. i think it was obvious that they don`t have a leader and someone to lead them. was a new guy, was good, but.... somethink is missing. hope they`re on holyday, but i don`t think. think it will get back where it was. to bad, was getting better and better, you couldn`t find service like here nowhere around, especially when that landlady was working. since they came it was a big difference in term of food, service and welcoming atmosphere. hope the company or them think twice... hope to see them back

I've just belatedly noticed the post by rgb. Don't think you can get Brock lager anymore but Badger beer doesn't taste appreciably better than it did back in 1977.

visited the pub on 10/07, even though it wasen`t crowded (i don`t know why), the atmosphere was frendly, and welcoming.. since the manegement changed, there were a lot (and important) improvements... i`ve seen the reviews before, and there were saying that is not cosy for drinkers... that thing changed, they have 2 tall tables, and a very comfortable couch, with 2 armchairs, where you can relax, and just enjoy a glass of wine, or a pint of real ale.. service was great and the food was just beutiful, i had venison steak, whitch was cookeed to perfection, and my wife had gammon steak, ohhh, just beautiful.... i used to be a regular at the woolpack, down the road, but from now on, i fell sorry to say that, i will stop going there, and i thing i will be a regular at the New Queen..

Went again recently for lunch. The food was very good, and the pies in particular are excellent. My wife had the ribs and she said they were fantastic. The young staff were friendly and helpful. So, recommended for a reasonable-price meal. Still not cosy enough for people just wanting a good drink though.

Haven't eaten there - just went for a drink. Although the Badger real ales are available, it has no atmosphere for drinkers. It has been opened up inside, giving a barn-like feeling. Just not cosy enough.

Visited for the first time ever on the 29th July. It's a Hall & Woodhouse and I've been avoiding their beer since 1977 (so Badger and Brock lager may taste nice now)
Pub has same menu and beers/wines/decor as Monmouth Ash in Verwood. However chef is not so good. One customer complaining about his child's pudding when I arrived, my steak pie was good, mash potato was pretty average, veg. was poor, service somewhat slow.
I'll not visit again but if you go here, then parking is very good, they have a decent sized garden with children's play area (and winged beasties to chew on you)

I agree with the beer monkey, really was a great pub, now a chain pub with prcoessed food and yuppie feel, bit sad really

I used to visit this pub to eat when visiting friends in Bournemouth. However, although the food is still good and hasn't drastically changed, the pub has now been refurbished and become more or less a chain restaurant. The old pub had a traditional atmosphere with a fantastic cosy feel. This is no longer the case as the place now has lost almost all it's character and we now eat elsewhere after frequent visits for over fifteen years. It is very sad that a lovely old pub has had it's heart ripped out in this way.

Re the last entry. - It was not the staff that failed to produce the welcoming atmosphere - no problem at all there. It is the fact that its previous setup as an inn was far more acceptable than the transformed enlargement that jars.
It just appears to have lost its heart in pursuit of the identipub image that might be alright for a town centre but not for a hamlet between two towns

I visited this pub at the begining of the week and was pleasantly suprised.
The food, while not outstanding was tasty and the menu varied with good specials and pudding was yummy!
The pub has been done up and feels warm and cosy although it does hint at being a chain pub it is not offensive.
The staff were well mannered, welcoming and very helpful - the last poster must have caught them on a bad day.

Refurbished from a pub to a restaurant with bar. The new main entrance is now around to the rear adjacent to the sewage pit which would benefit from more frequent attention and does not appear to have been refurbed along with the pub. It is not worthwhile putting on a priority list of places to visit, as there is no chance of a 'welcome' feel being imbued upon the visitor.

very very poor waited over 1 hour for food when the food got to us it was very poor microwaved to death staff very disinterested poor service AVOID THIS PUB

Survives on pub meals served up to 8.30. Then every body seems to leave. Management seem to have a great interest in raising an offspring at the end of a baby monitior than the on hands running of a of pub. Lippy barman helping efficient long- suffering girl behind the bar.

The place is undergoing a change of management at the moment and is neither one thing nor the other. A future refurb has been looming on the horizon and it isn't a place to rush to at present. The bitters can be unpredictable, food seems a bit of a hassle. The staff seem to do their best, but overall brewery attention looks scant.

A large family garden, catering for kids and pets, the friendly staff serve good food, the Tanglefoot is excellent.'Tis a pity the Stella has gone. The local ducks waddle round the outside tables in summer.

A great pub although the address is bit mis-leading if you don't know the area. Don't bother looking in Christchurch for it. Excellent food although my mates partner did once find a dead spider in her grub. Riverside beer garden is a must in the summer although as you can imagine it gets packed. The only downside is that this is a Hall & Woodhouse pub with their crap range of beers although the last time I was there they did have Ringwood Best which was a relief. One fruit machine if memory serves.
