Many years ago this was a 'Bass House'...how time has changed things!! It's about 3 times the size that it was, but in a way it has lost a lot of it's 'charm'. Now run by Hall & Woodhouse (shitbeersareus.com). The place is unrecognisable, it's a shame really because I liked it the way it was...but 'hey ho' time moves on. This is another pub of mine that brings back memories of a certain 'Karen'.....now I'm living in the past!!! Anyway the beer was good (Badger Best...or First Gold, if you like) and the manager was first class....Highly recomended!! wolvesfan - 25 Sep 2012 16:13 |

Like some readers have pointed out, this place is no where near Christchurch, it's nearer to Ringwood. In a village called 'Avon', I believe. Great pub this. I knew it when it was a Bass house, I actually looked after it for a week or two in 1987, Long before Hall & Woodhouse (badbeerRus.com). Great location and very relaxed atmosphere. Spent a weekend here with a Lady called Karen.........oh well......If only we could revisit the past!!! I wish her well. wolvesfan - 22 Jun 2012 21:58 |
Good pub grub. The New Queen is a Hall and Woodhouse pub with a good range of their Badger ales available. The food menu is standard pub grub with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. The food itself was above average for what it was; the fish and chips, steak and ale pie, burgers, lasagne etc were all served in ample portions. The high quality of produce was refreshing as some local pubs have a tendency to rely on pre-cooked and mircowaved meals, this certainly wasn't the case here. The service at the bar was polite and efficient, our waitress was friendly and did her job perfectly and with a smile. Atmosphere was a little lacking for a Thursday night during the holiday season, the sheer size of the pub can make it seem a little quiet - it is obviously designed primarily as a food pub. It was quite brightly lit (too much for a country pub?) and decor was in good condition. Large garden with tables, large car park and perfectly acceptable toilets too. I would definitely return for another meal. jlong17 - 8 Sep 2010 17:22 |
Have had a nice gastropub-style meal here but it lacks the cosy atmosphere I like in a pub. Recently had to request a refund and walk out as was waiting for food for over half an hour to be told "it's next in the queue". Not sure if this is a rare occurrence or not but has definitely tainted my view of the place. Does have a good, interesting beer selection though. PDofA - 14 Jan 2010 17:15 |
