Quite a choice in Stow on the Wold. None in the 2017 GBG, so I took pot luck.
This Donnington Tied house added a nice symmetry to my walk, having passed the brewery earlier.
A quintessential English countryside boozer. Everything you could want.

Decent pub. Wood and stone. Stone floor. Three Donnington beers (local and traditional and hard to find outside of Gloucester, but quite unremarkable). A nice beer garden. Relaxed atmosphere. Nice landlord.
In in all a decent place, though somehow it lacks something. There's pubs like this all over the place, and this has nothing to really make it stand out. However, I quite liked it. I wouldn't recommend it, and next time I'm in Stow I'd like to try some of the other pubs, but I would be quite happy to come back here.

Visited here for the afternoon. Fantastic, great locals giving the place a buzz. Had lunch, local produced cooked well and good value. Brilliant landlord and good staff. Local Donnington ale. Well worth visiting.

By far the most comfortable and most pub-like in Stow. Feels very traditional and even had the interesting locals and knowledgeable landlord to prove it.
Decent Donnington ales on offer, all of which were very good indeed.
Recommended.

Had the Donningtons BB and a Sunday roast. Both very enjoyable and excellent service. Good traditional pub. Plenty options in Stow but this is a must try.

It is still the same no change.

This was by far my favourite pub in Stow. All the rest being dull as dishwater hotel bars.
Like most of the pubs in the area, it's a Donnington Brewery pub, so don't expect a vast range of ales ... only the usual 2 being Donnington's S.B.A and B.B.
Inside it has a nice old fashioned (no music) pub feel to it.
There's a nice seating area out the back by the outside toilets. It's only concrete ... not turfed or anything, but they have tried to spruce it up a bit with various plants and herb plants.
As with all the Donnington pubs I visited, Stowford Press cider on draught.

Popped in for a pint whilst on a long weekend break in Stow. Nice traditional pub. Had a welcoming feel depite us being strangers. Donnington's BB was a very enjoyable pint, didn't have time to sample the SBA.

This is a first-rate pub. It's often busy, but a large part of the business is locals. It's friendly (easy to strike up a conversation with people there) in a good atmosphere. The beers are very well-kept here indeed: Donningtons. The food is good, too. This is a place to stop whenever I'm passing by. 8/10

A fantastic Cotswolds pub which hasn't relented to the more modernistic style that many have taken over the past few years. A great atmostphere (pop in one xmas day if you're in the area) with plenty of locals and a few out-of-towners. I have yet to eat there but the food looks good in a classic pub food way. They only serve Donningtons, which to be honest is not may favourite of the many local brews, but they serve it very well (and it's certianly not bad). All in all a delight.

First ever visit last sunday on way back from the north. Liked the atmosphere and drinks/service etc straight away. Booked a table for the Good Friday lunchtime after recomendation from the staff and, was not disappointed, excellent pub grub/drinks/service. Has it says just a pub. No tv's,pool, blasting music. It was a treat to sit and chat/converse with the staff and, regulars all very friendly. And, enjoy good pub food. A real treat was had by all our party and, we shall of course return, but when the tourists are not quite so over taking. Well done the the Queens Head. full marks from me and the party.

Lovelly little pub in touristy town , exellent Donnigton BB and decent food , recommended .
|
Nice pub serving the best SBA & BB in the area. On the small side but the food looked good and the beer garden is great.
|
A pleasant pub in the heart of the town. Found it a little mixed on the beers... the BB was just about drinkable though the SBA was quite a nice pint. A jolly freindly kind of pub where people do actaully talk to each other.

As always a super pub had a top notch pint of donnington BB followed by an equally good pint of SBA. This is a Donnington Brewery pub and I would recommended it highly.
|
Fantastic pub! Warm welcome from staff & locals, superb pint of Donnington SBA and just a lovely place to while away a winters afternoon, the interior of this place is just sublime, exactly what a stone built country pub should be like and totally unspoilt by anything modern thank goodness - even a piano. Easily the best pub in Stow and the cheapest & best ale too. Can't wait to revisit!

i love this pub really dog friendly and they make really welcome one of the best pubs in stow

Had an excellant lunch time pint of a Donnington beer today. BB I think. Top notch place.

The sort of 60s pub atmosphere you only seem to find in Donningtons pubs (compare with Sam Smiths for example). A great pub experience, although I don't rate the beer at all (see 25/4/08 post). I applaud their customer ethos though - BB was only 2.20 !

Terrific pub, Terrific owners, Terrific locals, Terrific Food, Terrific atmosphere, Terrific Dogs; We popped in on a Saturday night for a few drinks, stayed for dinner speaking to the locals (all lovely people), ended up having the best pub fare I've had in years and then played with the dogs (Bomber and Juggles)We were the last to leave and the bar manager gave us a lift home, also the Garden at the back is lovelyI cant praise this pub and the people enough

Good local pub...fabulous staff - very friendly. Good beer and decent enough wine selection. Food was a fairly average, agree with the ale pie pastry problem! Nice chips and great deserts...

Went there in April 2008. Very nice cosy pub and very friendly and attentive staff. Choice of draught ales limited (as far as I could see) to Donningtons. I tried the SBA. Not to my 'Northern' tastes. It looked good but had little aroma, was a bit flat and had a strange aftertaste. Several lager beers though so if you prefer that then you may be OK. Tried the food and had their vegetable soup which was excellent if a little under salted and peppered though that's no problem. Then had Beef Pie with potatoes and veg. This was a real disappointment yet cost 8.95!!. It came in an oval earthenware bowl but with a separately cooked (and not properly cooked) puff pastry top plonked on top - always a bad sign. Sure enough, to add insult to injury the beef gravy was gelatinous and sin-of-all-sins for a beef pie there was gristle in there purporting to be beef. The potatoes were good though. Our friends had whitebait for starters and there again the sauce looked like wallpaper paste. Hmmm, Not much real home cooking here. I'd give this place a miss if I were you.

great pub with friendly staff and locals - on a break me and my girlfriend thought we wouldn't try the same place twice as we wanted to try a few places, but quality and value meant we came here for a lunch and an evening meal!
Had a chat with the locals shame that sort of thing is a rarity nowadays!"
Only minor downside is that while the donnington ales were lovely there are no guest ales. 9/10!

A nice find. Your choice of Donnginton Ales. Nice interior. Comfortable enough. Staff were helpful. Dog friendly. I enjoyed a nice lunch of sausage and mash. Worth a visit.
