Nice stone pub Only GK available

called in early Sunday evening and for a while we were the only customers. Assured that had been busy earlier with the Sunday lunch trade. Roaring (not real) fire at one end of bar, so quite inviting - however it seemed that all the locals were probably down at the Black prince taking part in the Quiz and enjoying the beer festival. Add to that that the round we had here was the most expensive of the 6 pubs we visited in Woodstock

A bit less of a hotel bar feel than others in town. A GK tie somewhere as they only had St.Edmundsbury and Olde Trip on. The Olde Trip was nice enough though.

Agree with last contributor and has obviously changed hands since earlier critical reviews. Were welcomed inside with our dog in a cosy area away from main diners so everyone happy. There were also locals just having a drink so not completely foody place, though our meals were all excellent. Staff all friendly and efficient. There are numerous pubs and posh restaurants in Woodstock, due no doubt tourists drawn to adjacent Blenheim Palace, but well worth a visit.

Really liked this pub. Nicely spacious, while still feeling cosy. Variety of ales on tap in a good condition. Classic FM on the speaker system was an odd touch!

Very disappointed with this pub. It's not cheap to eat there and all three in our party complained about the quality of the food - well undercooked game, leathery "roast" potatoes, hard veggies ( even tomatoes) and claggy sauce. Service to the table was non existent so drinks had to be collected. Beer was OK rather than outstanding and house wine not great (7.50 a large glass). When my guest asked to see the manager to register her comments we were told he was "too busy" to see us. The place was half empty. It may have been just an off night for the cook and it could be argued that some criticisms might be a matter of taste - but we felt the lack of interest in customers was inexcusable. We didn't bother to stay and try the puds, prefering to go elswhere to complete the evening ( which we did very happily and well looked after at Brotherton's).

Fantastic food - tho I've yet to get past either the pie or the fish and chips in about 4 attempts - really good quality and portions.
Good beers, and nice cosy atmosphere. Little beer garden out back was a decent sun trap (on the day we had sun).
Closed on Sunday PM's annoyingly.

Nice pub in a lovely village close to Blenheim Palace. The ale was good and according to the land lady they have won awards for there food. I didn't try any but will return to do so.
