Haven't seen so many varieties of gin since we went to the Col Fawcett in Camden- 30 varieties. However, being thirsty we opeted for Aspalls cider and the guest perry (7.5%) food looked good but we'd already eaten.
Smart out front, shame about the grubby loos

They have a rotating real cider & a perry from Middle Farm (National Cider Centre) nr Lewes. Currently a Gwatkin cider & Hecks Blakeney Red perry. Tables in the street outside, for watching all the North Lanes shopppers go by. Small outside seating area at rear.

Good pub for the Thai Food - 2 courses for about a tenner, all freshly cooked in the clearly visible kitchen behind the bar. Sadly their only proper beer (Hardys) was off at 7 p.m. on a Saturday night, which left you with an uninspiring choice of cider, Carling or Guinness.
Also the Gents is ridiculously small.

A lovely friendly pub in the North Laines area with a little courtyard out at the back. Don't let the frontage put you off; this place is buzzing with a young-ish crowd, efficient staff, a terrific range of Ciders and an interesting Thai food menu.
|
A young crowd but not a party place. Perhaps somewhere to start the night but there's nothing to keep you here for long.

I'd have said that the food was just okay. My pint of Harvey's was fine. The service was good when we arrived with three behind the bar but when we left the bar had been completely abandoned by the staff and punters were wandering in then out again as they couldn't get a drink. A bit slack.

Excellent Thai food (the kitchen's open again), but lacking in atmosphere and despite the lovely little beer garden it's NOT worth going just for a pint here, as there's only 1 real ale which is frequently very poorly kept - try before you buy!
|
Thai kitchen is closed now, still an OK pub for a pint. Often v busy but I think that's more to do with location than anything.
|
Wouldn't bother making a special trip for the beer but it does do great food. I don't often eat in pubs as it gets in the way of drinking but I make an exception here.
|
used to be the Green Dragon i think - lack of character now - bit dear aswell. Plenty of better pubs in the area.
|
Not bad, bit ordinary, nice location and beer garden but otherwise just another run of the mill pub.
|
brilliant for a summer drink in the sunny beer garden (probably the best in brighton. incidentally, can anyone find a spacious, green beer garden in brighton?) great thai food for 5 ish. excellent.
|
Gave this place another chance, just to be fair. Different bar staff, different service. Upgrading my rating accordingly.
Almost forgot: food. Although there seems to be a fad for Thai food in a lot of Brighton pubs and , as a result there is some average Thai to be had, the food here should not be ignored
|
Be careful if you go in here when the ABM (for that is what he seemed to be)is visiting: Manageress totally ignored me in order to chat to her boss (I was the only person at the bar, with two or three other people sitting at tables) whilst I was quietly awaiting a refill and the barman almost had to be copped around the neck with a shepherd's crook to realise that I might actually be desirous of a second drink.
Menu looked interesting, though I am not a great one for Thai food at lunchtime.

Rather trendy! Less atmospheric than when it was the goth-infested Green Dragon, but the drinks are OK and the food can be superb. The barstaff are good on the whole, and a couple of them work their socks off. Not the best pub in Brighton, but perfectly OK.
