Sought out this place whilst on a walking holiday recently. Received a warm welcome from staff, locals and Teddy the house Briard. Excellent choice of beers - from memory there were 5 handpumps - I would normally have been more than satisfied with Dark Star Hophead but the Moor So'Hop was even better. Food also excellent and reasonably priced.
Re the previous post; By bizarre coincidence, another one of my recent walks took me past The Stanhope Arms in Brasted. I considered going in but was put off by the reviews on BITE!!

Hi amazingrace - thankyou for your great reviews of the Stanhope Arms in Kent. As the owners of the Bottle Inn in Marshwood, I would like to enlighten you of a few facts. The Bottle Inn has never been run by the landlord of the Stanhope Arms although he has lorded it about that he is the landlord - hey you need to pay rent to do this! This man is not to be trusted as you have probably worked out! Thanks again for your insight on this man!! - we agree!!!!!!

If you wish to know about the landlords of this pub, then you better check out their latest venture at 'The Stanhope Arms' in 'Brasted' Kent. Put some time aside though as the locals seem to have a lot on them and a severe dislike, have fun reading......

for a real ale fanatic like me this is a real find. Some excellent and unusual beers on offer at reasonable prices. Friendly, bohemian and homely. A welcome change from the anticeptic and soulless Hunters Lodge type pub further up the road charging £8.15 for a pint and a vodka and tonic !! Dogs are welcome here but sadly so are children. Call me Victor but I don't find loads of sprogs running around very pleasureable in what should be an adult environment. Sadly this takes some of the gloss off the place. Overall though the good points outweigh the bad.

Now open and serving six high quality real ales from small independent breweries. The beer menu is kept up-to-date on their website. We had perfectly kept Yeovil Posh IPA, Exe valley "It's Phils Ale" and Mighty Hop Nut Brown Ale.
A great pub to visit after a walk on the coast.

Good news...The Bottle Inn will be re opening in about 3 weeks. The world famous stinging nettle eating competition will now be going ahead on August 4th, not in July as previously advertised. Hooray for this classic country pub, when i popped in this week to see what was happening with the nettles competition i got a quick tour inside...wow, fantastic & what fab menue idea's. Really look forward to having this pub back as my local. Good luck Bottle, you deserve to be well supported.

Is this pub open or not? My girlfriend and i visited this pub after a walk on Lamberts Castle. Carvery was very good and really liked the place. It is a hidden gem in a Beautiful part of Dorset.

Closed again. Only reopened last spring.

Carvery is excellent, friendly staff, clean white tablecloths. Was on holiday and recommend to other tourists whom pass and think mmm! I was told I should have reserved but no clear tele no. displayed outside. It was a full house but a table was free. Luck was on our side on Wednesday 8/9/10. Thankyou to mein hostess from the Tunbridge Wells 3.

Seems fairly obvious that sishell12 has a vested interest here!

PERHAPS YOU SHOULD HAVE A LOOK BEFORE YOU SLATE IT, IT IS BEING SORTED MAYBE YOU SHOULD FIND OUT FOR YOUSELF....THIS PUB HAS A LOT OF HISTORY AND THEY CANT PLEASE EVERYBODY>>>>>
|
Still looks like a right dump from the outside and I guess the inside will be far worse, probably be closed again before the end of the Year. Just what the Dorset countryside needs is a Disco based pub.

Popped in a few days ago to find frilly table cloths and high prices for very mediocre food, pub seems to be falling apart through general neglect.

Called in yesterday for lunch. Good to see four local ales on - the Summa That (Branscombe Brewery) and Norman's Conquest (Cottage Brewing) were both excellent. Also on were Otter Ale and Otter Bitter. The food was enjoyable although the menu is not extensive, the portions are not over-generous and the prices are very steep.

Yes Tiz the nettle eating pub, happens around July. landlord just leaving (shane).

Very good traditional thatched country pub with friendly staff, well kept beer (although limited range) and good pub grub.

Great food, had a really romantic night here. My boyfriend was going to take me up on Lamberts Castle afterwards but unfortunately the pub doesn't have a condom machine.
|
Good pub for walkers in the beautiful Marshwood Vale. Beer is a bit average choicewise (6X and Otter Green) but it's well served. Landlord a bit pro-fox killing for me.
