A welcome choice after a rather nerve-racking Under-16s driving experience at Brookland's Mercedes-Benz World. The carvery was well-judged and well-priced, as was the well-kept Bombardier (£3.20 a pint), which more than made up for the rather lacklustre service proffered. In terms of value for money though, well worth a visit, and certainly deserves more than its current sub-4 rating.

Went here in Jan and had carvery meal - very good and excellent value for money. My pint was a bit off but changed without question and Golden Arrow was excellent.

Returned on Sat. We were too late for carvery but menu meals were excellent. Again, Golden Arrow was top notch. We sat in the bar area and I thought it might get a bit noisy as it quiter busy, but the locals were friendly and not too noisy.

Will deffo return.

After a refurb this place is much improved. Had a Sunday lunch from the carvery which was fine and good value, a good selection of beers and wine and cheery service.

I am sorry to say that this pub has gone down hill rapidly since the end of January. The service is terrible and the two best bar staff have left. The manager, called Sam, needs to get a character inplant as she is so miserable all the time. No - this place is the pits since the two regular barmen went. I'll go back when they get a decent manager again. Rating now: 1/10

The real ale at The Goat is worth the visit alone. They now do a regularly changing guest ale along with the usual Bombadier and Youngs. Today I had a couple of pints of Twickenham Fine Ales 'Autumn Blaze'. Last week it was TEA, the week before I had Rebellion 'Smuggler'. It's all good and only 2.60 a pint. I recommend to everyone. The new landlady is doing a good job.

Visited on Sunday night with my mum. We had tried it the week before but it was packed and there was an hour's wait. Got a seat in the carvery straight away. Were asked for drinks so asked what real ale they had. This seemed to confuse the waitress who said they had Bombardier but actually turned up with Youngs Bitter, although to be fair it was pretty good. It was only when I checked the beers on the way out that I found out they had Rebellion Smuggler too which I would have gone for. Meals were ok although if it is "as much as you can eat" as stated below it wasn't obvious.

Difficult to mark but if you just went in for a drink I think it would be ok as a pub but a little soulless like all foodie orientated places.

I need to stand up and defend my local. I was in there this evening for an early evening pint. The new mamager has introduced a regularly changing guest ale. Today it was Cottage Brewing 'Hot Dog' which was very enjoyable. This is alongside the two regulars (Bombadier and Young's). Everybody was extremely friendly. They have recently hired a couple more bar staf to add to the existing ones which makes the place much more efficient. I overheard one chap telling the new manager how good the food had been when he'd eaten there with his family a couple of days ago. I will continue to visit The Goat as I have had nothing but good experiences of the place over the last 10 months or so. Fair play to them, I think they are making a real effort.

Booked a table for 9 for my mothers special birthday. We arrived to be told that our table had already been given to another party with the same surname.
We were seated and then we received our starters the prawn cocktail had grit in it and the goats cheese tarts were cold. Another hour later our main meals came out the vegetables were cold and the mash potatoes were cold and the lamb shanks were tasteless and barely warm. The carvery had a cook which was wearing a dirty overall and proceeded to carve the meat which the gammon was brown at one end the broccolli was yellow and the roast potatoes were burnt. One of the burgers meals was off and the cook Manager was called and we were told that it was not off as he had taken it out of the packet fresh today. Then stood there with attitude saying that he food was not cold and did not apologise. The Area Manager has called and said this is normal practice for the meals to be probed before they come out of the kitchen before they are served. Never heard such nonsense in all my life my husband has worked in kitchens for 20 years and this is not what happens in a professional kitchen. Would never go to this establishment again.

I completely disagree with you 'bumblebee15'. You've got it totally wrong. I went there for Sunday lunch just two weeks ago and it was excellent. Will be visiting again soon to take my cousin and his family for lunch. Thoroughly recommend this as a pub and a carvery. I think the fact that it was absoluely packed on that Sunday, as it was last Friday evening and today, speaks volumes. Good value for money too: eat as much as you like for 8.95 at weekends and 7.95 during the week.

P.S. I went to the Goat a couple of years ago too and it was very poor. It's much better nowadays, especially with the new landlord who started a couple of weeks ago.

This pub continues to impress me. Took a couple of friends there last night and we were well impressed with the bar food. Really pleasant, friendly staff, good beer and wine. I'd recommend this place to all my friends.

Visited The Goat again this evening on way home from work. It was just as good as previous night. Got just as warm a welcome from barman and regulars as I did last night.

Chap behind the bar, while very young, was extremely friendly and polite and was giving customers good service. This is rapidly becoming one of my favourite pubs.

I will try the carvery out again this weekend.

I have visited this pub several times over the years. Lately it has much improved. I like the improvements to the inside decor and the food is very good and reasonably priced. Always very busy at weekends in the carvery.

Went for a drink there this evening, (a wet Tuesday night), and found the real ale excellent, the bar staff extremely efficient and friendly and got chatting to some regulars who were great fun. All in all had a great evening. Will certainly be going there more often from now on. Might even become a regular myself!

Decent carvery on a Sunday.

Full of wide eyed people who look like they have consumed something more than just alcohol. And the referb looks like they are trying to make the place into something is clearly isn't.

A snug locals bar with a low beamed ceiling.

After the classic stares and glares upon entering, you find that the regulars are a beady-eyed and challenging bunch, ever-eager to know your business and to impart theirs upon you.

One ale, a (nice) pint of Pride with Newcy Broon in the fridge. Perhaps the only saving grace.

I couldn't wait to leave.

Note: This is a laptop free bar, the patrons swear by it.

Judging by all the reviews here on 'The Goat'... either not many people can find it, those that have are keeping quiet about it, or customers are disappearing in The Halliford Triangle at an alarming rate..! Its a nice pub. Try it, you might like it! TJ

Had a lovely bar sandwich & drink here in The Goat with Mrs TJ, it was very nice. A hard to find pub, right off the main track, and if you're not careful you could 'disappear' in the Halliford Triangle...!
Previously had a sit down Sunday lunch with family here, but its busy on Sundays, and you may have to wait 45mins for a table! Presumably, thats a good sign. Will go again soon. TJ

A large pub in the Bermuda triangle that is Upper Halliford, seems to be proud of it's restaurant which is big and beefeater-esque. Haven't eaten there so can't comment on it's quality. Pub seems OK, but is packed with Kids on a Sunday.
