I've just read that this pub is closed and the fixtures and fittings will be sold. A pity, I and a few friends only went there once on a ' rail ale' trip to pubs in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, we got the bus from Ryde so we could try some Burt's brewery beers. It was early evening but we had a warm welcome and the beer was delicious! Hope it isn't converted into flats or other housing.

Looks like this place has changed hands again. When we visited last year (October 2009) it was being run by a family whose dedication to improving the place was clear. Great beer and they also incidentally did THE best stilton ploughmans my wife had ever had! Went back last week and whilst some further decorating had been done, the beer was now adequate and the menu had the wiff of a 'chain'. No stilton ploughmans (or any other kind). What we had was okay, but it has gone from a 'must come back here next year, pub to a 'there's plenty better on the island' one. Shame.

Well, how this place has changed!
It's changed hands since the last time I visited in May 2008 and is now a lively, friendly pub with great beers (didn't have a bad pint for the whole week) and fantastic food.
Having struggled to get a meal for my young daughter last year, the new owners couldn't do enough for me and my family.
This pub is now exactly what it should be - a great place to go if you're staying in the adjacent camp site. Very highly recommended.

We went for a walk up there a couple of weeks ago for a drink and meal. As we approached, we noticed the car park was empty, and on arrival saw it empty and in darkness within! Blackboard outside said the pub was shut for a few days whilst the owners moved premises, then we noticed a notice from the bailiff on the window saying they had entered the premises to reclaim property! Real shame, I think the landlord over stretched themselves with building works with a half completed patio area out front!
Hopefully new owners soon who can restore it back to it's glory!

Paid my first visit since last October and had the best meal in there for quite a while. The Abbot was getting a bit past it's best and possibly getting to the end of the barrel, but the follow up pint of HSB couldn't be faulted. Both the food and drink were also reasonably priced. After gradually going down in my estimation over the last couple of years, it looks like it may be on the way up again.

Clearly, they do have a grude, but i visited this pub again and it has gone so far down hill it was quite unbelievable, half of the good staff that were there the first time i visited seemed to have been dismissed/quit. This was one of the downfalls, also the food was undercooked, tasteless and clearly rushed. Another downfall i encountered was the staff, very scatty and rude, they did not check to see if my meal was ok, when they could clearly see my husband and i were not satisfied. When we finally decided to make a complaint, we were dealt with in a " couldnt care less" manor. This also upset us and we feel the pub overall has changed dramatically throughout the year i would advise you not to go there as i would not wish this experience on anyone else.

All I can say is that the anonymous entries for the 16th November are very deluded and whoever wrote them has a very limited vocabulary as all they did was post on derogatory remarks about people's appearances, I find that disgusting in view of today's society. When we visited the wishing Well(6 of us, all different ages, shapes and sizes)we received excellent customer service from all of the staff and management. I would also suggest to all other beer drinkers who love this site, for what it is supposed to be used for, that you omit the comments made on the 16th Nov and get yourself and the family down to the Wishing Well and get a few beers in.

clearly some one does have a problem or is sad and has nothing beter to do with there time as they did 3 reviews in the space of ten minutes.(proberly a bored lonley teenager)i recently have been to this pub and thought the service and food was exellent i found the staff very freindly there was a more mature lady behind the bar when me and my family went and we found here very pleasent and witty witch made you feel at home as some pubs the bar staff arnt. I would recomend this pub to any one.
|
i agree with atsoutar it is obvious that someone is carrying a grudge beacause five comments in the case of 10 minutes is a bit strange. in my personal opinion as well me and my family had a meal while staying on the camp site next door in the summer and we had such a great time. the kids had the play area outside while me and my partner could have time on our own. When it came to the food we found that it was absolutely delicious. We found that the owner and the daughter especially were very polite and so too were the waiting staff.

Someone clearly has a problem with this place and the landlady in particular - 3 negative reviews in under 10mins! Just co-incidence I'm sure!!! If you are going to post negative reviews, at least put your name to them. You aren't going back to the place by the sounds of it so don't whats the harm???

we tryed to eat out food as quickly as possible.
but then the land lady walked out the kitchen with a half eaten chip and was cackling very loudly spitting her food everywhere with her gappy teeth. this soon put us off our food and we left

this is run by a family, the mother and the daughter seemed very off putting due to their uglyness the food was beautiful and the two chefs at the bar seemed very nice. it was only the skill of the chefs that we didnt demande a refund and leave!!

I visited this pub late summer, with my husband and two small children, the land lady seemed to be very flirtatious with my husband, and i felt this was very innapropriate in front of my children. She seemed to have very little time for the female customers and contstantly made sexual jokes with the male customers, whatever the age. I wil not be returning and i advise people to stay away.!

I have recently visited this pub, the waitresses are polite and very friendly, However the oweners seemed to be in a world of there own discussing things that arnte to be discussed in front of customers the female owner seemed off her trolly, she was rude and i found what she said to me very offensive, the food was brilliant and i thanked the chefs for this, and they seemed to be very polite and thankful for my comments on the food.

Went to this pub yesterday, especially as it had good reviews about it. Walked in and was instantly disappointed, it looked like walking in a care home or social club, not very cosy publike whatsoever, the second thing we noticed was the carvery service area, unattended, food left uncovered or partially covered, complete with flies having a feast, this was so off-putting, we looked at the board on the wall, worriedly, then the barman eventually offered us menus, so we thought, being tired from a long trip we would try something off the menu. The waitress was a sight, one arm bandaged, best not mention appearance. I had the chilli, this was lukewarm, orange fatty liquid in bottom, tasted like lamb mince. I tried to eat it, it made me feel sick and today I conclude I have food poisoning, I am writing this in pain and spent all morning in the bathroom.

Went back here last Friday, was packed even though it was early afternoon, probably due to the warm weather. Food was good again, just wish I had sat on the outside seating at the front of the pub. Service seemed reasonable, but probably not as good as it was a couple years ago when I last visited.

The pub did change hands last year, and used to be the sister pub of the Crab and Lobster at Bembridge. Still a nice place to go, but not as frequent as we did, as the food and service can be a bit up and down, depending on the chef and staff on duty. However, to their credit the menu has vastly increased and they now do food all day.

We visited this pub several times whilst staying at Pondwell Self Catering Park and have been very pleased with the food service and general ambience However last Sept (2006) when we made our usual visit it was a completely different place, empty and disinterested staff. I think it may have changed hands. We had a quick drink and left. We will probably give it another chance on our next visit and hope for better things.

Had a good meal on Saturday Night - Steak was spot on - However... the service was truly appalling - bar staff didn't seem to know what was going on, had practically no glasses available and when I took a wine glass back to the bar as it was filthy, after being told that they didn't have anymore wine glasses they passed me over a steaming hot one from the washer... great for white wine! Could someone please train the staff here as the food is very good and its location is great(especially if you are camping!)This pub COULD be very good.

I've not visited the Wishing Well since the 80's, sounds like it's still a great pub.
|
This is a very nice pub with a lovely balcony with a great view and very nice food, also quite cheap as well
|
This is pub has an amazing hillside location with a unique raised balcony which is large and offers a wonderful opportunity to relax on a hot day. The food here is inexpensive but wonderfully prepared and delicious - there are good vegetarian choices too. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Specials Board, A la Carte Menu and Childrens on offer. This pub is very busy in the summer as it is situated next to a Holiday Park. Very good value.
