Friendly pub overlooking the river and just far enough from town centre to avoid the crowds. Small selection of Fullers beers.
Fabulous.. The setting, the interior, the service, the beer and the food. One of the best pubs I have ever been to...just go!
Came here for a leaving do yesterday evening. The pub has a wonderful location for a warm summer's evening and the outdoor patio overlooking the river was popular. Inside there are a number of different rooms - some of which are best suited for upright drinking, whilst others have cosy seating areas better suited for winter. Being a Fullers pub, there's only really ales from their range - ESB, London Pride, Seafarers & Two Halves. Still one of the better pubs in Staines.

Agree with Teejay's last post.

Luvly Pub! - beautiful in the sunny weather. As previously mentioned, this old pub is part hotel, part restaurant (towards the bridge end of building) and 1/3 bar area. Which makes it an interesting place. They have a couple of TV screens up for sports enthusiasts, but if you want to watch the football you will have to do so with NO sound! Rugby is ok, or cricket, you can have sound then! :o( Service is generally quite good. Food is generally ok. Drinks prices are average for this part of London/Surrey...!
Early 2012 the 'Swan Hotel' had a refurb & paint job! I suspect a fair bit of money was spent on this project. The location is gr8, with a partial 'walk-around' type bar. The actual premises are quite 'historic' (and I'm not being rude, but factual) one third restaurant, one third hotel, the rest ground floor bar (with small, almost cramped patio area, outside on the river side - nice in the sunny weather)! Presently they have a medium sized Tv screen (maybe 40" screen..?) at the end of the main bar area, and a small screen in the smaller 'annex' bar. So you can watch the Euro 2012 football, if you like footy! England v Italy in 50mins...!! :o)
Nice location and atmosphere in the pub, the restaurant lacked atmosphere and felt a little cold and empty. The staff were, on the whole, friendly and helpful. The food was atrocious - Our meals were so bad we sent them back. To their credit the staff dealt with this professionally and quickly offered us a full refund. Would have preferred a decent feed though.
Beer was OK ... food was OK .... both were expensive but I guess we were paying for location as well.
Staff were for the most part on the ball but at one point the manager did have a bit of a rant at one of them in front of the customers which I thought was extremely unprofessional.

Utterly shambolic. We had accommodation and a meal booked for our wedding day and they managed to mess up one of the room reservations, the manager kept the groom awake the night before the wedding screaming under his window, they forgot our dinner reservation and then kept us waiting for food for an hour and 20 minutes! The place was in complete chaos. The food was nice (when it eventually appeared) but is pricey for what it is. We will not be going back ever again.
As mentioned below, a great place to go for a couple of drinks on a summer's evening. Make sure you have plenty of cash though; this place ain't cheap! Ate here once ages ago. It was Ok, I seem to remember.
Not cheap but the atmosphere is OK (no riff raff onthe whole) and the service tends to be on the good side rather than average or very bad as per the rest of Staines. No complaints about the quality of the beer.
Back in the good old days (when I was a student in the late 770s) this was one of my favourite haunts. On a recent visit I was bitterly disappointed. It's very pricey and lacking the atmosphere of old. Not my sort of pub anymore so will not be revisiting.3/10.
Location is great as is the range and quality of the beers - though at a price! I like to start here and quaff a couple before moving on.
Revisited this pub being an old haunt from my youth. Wanted a bite to eat and an ale on Saturday afternoon but told no food served until 6pm. Price for 2 beers and 2 bags of crips was eye watering. Discovery not great either. Nice location but service and offering below average and it appears yet another prime site being managed into the ground. 3/10.
Lovely pub by the river, especially in the summer when you can sit outside. Well kept ales, friendly staff and good pub grub.
Nice Fullers pub on the river bank across the other side from the town centre. Had a lovely meal in here today. The only drawback was the price.
A lovely pub right on the river making a nice break on the thames walk. Everything is pristine inside and the fullers Discovery was cracking.

Unquestionably the place to take you're aging mum for a glass of sherry!
Good beers. Never tried the food.
I was (politely) asked to take of my (non-baseball)hat; can't figure out if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
The one letdown: it has a hotel atmosphere (unsurprisingly), which begins to annoy after a while.
It is not cheap but the local hoodies are - as you might imagine with a no-hat policy - noticable by their absence. The sherry's probably okay too.

lunch is mediocre in a run down room overlooking river. starter pint of prawns consists of 2/3 of a pint on 1/3 of a pint of lettuce. wonder do they use their thumbs on the scale for the 10oz skinny grizzly steaks as well? at least no one got sick afterwards. wine list limited and expensive. I'm sure there must be better places to eat lunch in the area at 30 a head

We stayed at the Swan and used it as a base for trip to the UK and Europe. Accommodation was a little expensive but very comfortable and it does include a wonderful breakfast. The staff here are so friendly and helpful that it became a home away from home for us. We ate here many many times and yes it might be a little dearer than most but the service and view certainly make up for it. The Australian staff and assistant manager were excellent and are a credit to this pub and the managers. The beer selection was also a treat. Would thoroughly recommended this pub to anyone.
Goliath's comment was a little puzzling - could he be just a whingeing pom.
Nice clean friendly pub. The beer prices are at the top end. But that ensures a better class of customer. Gets busy on a Friday evening, from locao white collar workers. Restaraunt food is fantastic, lovely views of the river, quite expensive, but that's the price you pay for good food. Female staff are friendly and has a couple of grumpy male barstaff. The management run it very well and well worth a visit.
A very comfortable pub. The staff are friendly and helpfull. The beers and ales are served excellent. Althouh they should be as the cost of them is at the higher end of the market. They do show sport but rugby over football. A highly recomended pub that allows dogs during the day if they're kept under control.
Beer - OK Price - Top End Staff - Mostly OK Attmosphere - Not much Food - didn't try but looked OK Go back - worth another look
We stopped by the bar and had some good beer and food. Came by a few days later and had a very good meal in the resturaunt. The assistant manager was very nice to us. We are looking foreward to stopping by again. We live in the US.
Beer quality variable and damned expensive. Shame as this should be the best pub in town with that view...but isn't.
Nice pub, shame about the managenent. Boring auzzy twit behind the bar, Assistant manager is rude and anoying, restaurant always dead, because the staff are always at the pc or chatting. Manager is a grumpy selfish drunk, when he is there that is!!!!!!!, and yes always having a go at staff over nothing.
Not a comftable place to have a pint or a meal, Fullers made a BIG mistake employing that Scotish thing as a manager.
My advice is to NERVE go to this pub, if thatswhat you wish to call it.
Cheers.

After a long walk along the river, we arrived at Swan Hotel at 3.30pm, in the rain with a small dog in tow. Having been turned away from every other pub in town, we were welcomed into the Swan, ordered great bar meals and enjoyed the smokeless fuel open fire and generally had a great afternoon...
Nice location and a beautiful old building, however the poor performance of waiting staff and no compensation for finding plastic shards in food was rather disappointing. The landlord was more than slightly grumpy and managment yelling at staff in front of customers not really a good look. I certainly wont be returning there any time soon.
Visited 25Oct07. Good beer, friendly staff. Recommended.
Book a window seat in the restaurant on a warm summer's evening and just enjoy the sunset, the river view, good food, friendly service - all washed down with a pint of ESB! Fullers' other beers are great too though!
(I see 'Mcloj's latest comment was a bit too risque for the public domain..! Nevermind). Suffice to say, this is a nice pub, the food is good, and service was above average. (There is a large screen in main bar, showing latest Sky News reports, in afternoons, with the sound off.. to avoid interrupting polite conversation)! An outside terrace makes it very pleasant, drinking next to the river, on those warm days..! TJ
Didn't see any young naked nympho's 'Mcloj', but I will keep my eyes peeled tho'...! Nice little bar by the river, fantastic location in the summer no doubt. The bar strictly opens at 12noon during the week. Welcome real fires on cold winter days. (I have been in here one Saturday summer evening last year when it was extremely busy, and it was 3-deep at the bar, allow 20mins to get your drinks!) I don't get this side of the river often, me boat's lost an oar..!! Nice pub tho'. TJ
Good pub in a great location. Equally pleasant inside on a cold winters evening with a log fire as outside by the river in the summer. They have Pride, ESB and Discovery on all the time and rotate the 4th pump in line with Fuller's seasonal selection. At the moment it's Fuller's Old Winter Ale which is a very nice drop.
The only downside is a slightly grumpy scottish landlord.
This pub is probably my favourite pub in Staines. Before the refurbishment it was pretty untidy with the wallpaper in some parts of the pub actually peeling off the walls. The toilets were also a bit of a no go area. It's actually nice to see a pub updated in the proper way...at last!!I've seen so many pubs that have been ruined after extensive refurbs (The Ostrich-Colnbrook, mentioning one).It looks like Fullers have again spent a lot of time & effort, not to mention money, doing the old place up!......Hoorah!!! As always (with Fullers) the Beers are superb and the food superior.I strongly urge people to visit this pub on a seriously cold Winters evening - good beer, good food, friendly staff and roaring fires!.....you really can't beat it!!!
The new refit means that the place now has a bit of atmosphere it was badly lacking during quiet hours (see my previous post). Though no Chiswick on my last visit which is a shame as it is the only Fuller's pub in my vicinity that served it regularly. Shame.
A first for me - A nice pub in Staines. Arrived by boat and it was very pleasant, although the view was slightly spoiled by the chav bars over the road.
Anyhow, I thought this was an excellent pub.

The service in the pub was very poor a real shame because the pub is so beautiful with a lovely fireplace and wonderful views of the river. The bar was busy but if only the staff could smile once in a while they all look so unhappy.
Very unfriendly and unhelpful staff who were rude and I ended up waiting 16 mins to get a pint!!! The food was dreadful too!
Just had a re-fit. Pub is cosy and had two log fires burning when I visited. Serves the full range of Fullers beers; had on Honey Dew last night. Also stocks Belgium beers on tap and bottled. Food was delivered quickly after ordering. My only gripe was that I had to ask to have my pint filled to the line, this should be done without asking.
Nice pub. I wasn't a Fuller's fan but got the taste for Anniversary and Discovery. I imagine it'll be nice to go back here during the summer. Staff friendly, and there's a curry house accross the road.
Overall a reasonable riverside pub, not many left now on the Thames. Nice busy bar, restaurant reasonable, good food for the money. friendly service.
The assistant mangagers service attitude was awful. The food was ok-good, maybe it was an off day for them but I will not be returning. What a shame because with its surroundings it could be one hell of a pub.
MrG was not lying about that gents toilet, it is like stepping into an oven!!
Great pub though, nice staff, quick bar service and beautiful view of the river!
Has the hottest gents toilet on the face of the earth.
Takes advantage of a lovely interior and riverside view. Pricey, but Fullers ales in good nick so that's OK.
Due to location can be empty and devoid of atmosphere on a boring grey day so best taken either at height of midsummer or depths of a winter evening.
I've been a regular in this pub for some time now and must admit it seemed to be going downhill rather rapidly until recently. It changed management and the difference could be seen almost immediately. Its much cleaner, the service and the beer have improved greatly.
2.75 is pricey for Carling, but it was a nice day to sit by the river and have a pint.
This is a Fullers Hotel. Good food and separate dining area; pub does get busy. Beer range can be limited though, always has London Pride on, but not always other Fullers brews. Worth seeking out for a quite pintin the afternoon. Friendly bar staff, pub wasn't too smoky when I visited.
Nice sandwiches and beers. Yum. Great for the summer with a nice view of the river. Not so great inside.

Nice big pub on the river next to Staines bridge. Gets packed in the summer.
