3 ales on, efficient barman, had Wells 'Bombardier Glorious English', a decent ale.

Decent pub, smoking area at rear, barman was friendly; the Banks'' ''Amber Bitter'' was a decent enough pint.

Another first for the day was my visit here. Due to the rugby at the weekend there was only the one bitter on but the lack of choice was more than made up for by the conversation with the landlady.

Called into the Hop & Friar Saturday afternoon (first time in yonks I've visited this place) and it was quite good. Staff helpful and nice atmosphere, and they now have HD TV screens around the pub (showing Sky Sports News when I was in there), so looks like I have another pub to watch football or Formula One in! A good experience overall, and this place is very much back on my `Favourite Pubs in Town Cenre' list.

The Hop & Friar recently under new management, has transformed into a modern day family pub which welcomes all. Children welcome until 7pm....... Banks bitter and 2 guest ales served constantly- plus 4 fully stocked frdges and 14 + optics and top shelve avliable. Food also served from 12pm - 5pm

Tried 3 pints in a row, the january sale was pure sarsons, the next wasnt any better and the third "marstons 175 not out" was just about drinkable.shame as the barman was very friendly and helpful, but i guess its just a case of a very quiet january, 6/10

Called in again. Had all four handpumps on the go. Banks's Bitter and Winter Warmer, Wychwood January Sale and Jennings Cross Buttock Ale. Had a pint of the January Sale and it was very good. The landlady said that they're going to try and keep 4 beers on tap if they can sell enough to turn it over fast enough. Give them some help my giving this place a try, you might like it!

Looks old from the outside but brand new on the inside. Had Banks's bitter and Original on handpump when I called in. Had a pint of the bitter which was fine (Banks's isn't my favourite beer anyway). The pub interior looks like it's not quite finished yet as there were still pictures waiting to be hung on the walls. Roaring fire next to the doorway and several nooks and crannies in what is in fact one large room. Not bad at all. I'll call in again in a couple of weeks.

Large pub in the town centre, near to the English Bridge and St Julian's Friars car park.
Pretty average, though some good beers and food on offer.
