Nobody Inn, Doddiscombsleighback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
how over rated is this place? Yes you may have more whiskeys than the whole of scotland put together but the basics of running a pub should be achived 1st. Living on previous reputation alone will not last long. Ham, Egg and Chips. Pub grub but done right its the perfect pub lunch. Hard over cooked eggs, Re-fried frozen chips and poor ham. Im no chef but I can achive slightly better. My Beer was good but not worth traveling through the back of beyond for it. I found this place via eat out in teignbridge mag. Its amazing what a glossy add can tart up.

A few years ago could well have been one of the best pubs in the country. Went recently, and they aren't serving any ales from gravity any more. Just the few on hand pump. Pint of Exe Valley Spring Beer was just not bad enough to take back. Bar food not as good as it used to be either. Recommend this pub.

Enjoyed a very good Sunday lunch back in October. Nice atmosphere and they seem to have achieved a good balance between the eating side and retaining a pub feel. Staff were friendly and helpful and the service was fine, despite being pretty busy. The Cottage Southern Bitter was very fine indeed - they appear keen to support local small breweries. Will definitely go back if the chance arises.

"I have always found this pub impeccable. Did Simmel not notice the great wine list and the huge variety of local cheeses available? It's always so comfortable and, frankly, I don't go to a sleepy Devon village in the middle of nowhere for fast food. I have never had a bad meal there and I think it's just one of those pubs which are special. We always get lost before we finally arrive - but that's Devon lanes for you. It's worth the effort."
I didn't go there for fast food, I was there as a paying guest for four days. And if you want wine and cheese for breakfast, Fine, but at eight thirty in the morning, there would be Nobody Inn to serve it.

Who said anything about having to wait for food, I don't see anything about that in any of the reviews????? Plus I wasn't carping, I was making general remarks (some good some bad) based on my four day stay there. However, now you come to mention it, for three days out of the four, we did have to wait Half to three quarters of an hour for breakfast even though we had ordered it for a specific time. Also there were only four other guests there, so it wasn't crowded by any means.

Excellent pub, great beers and very good food to match. We waited a while for our meals, but that was because they were being cooked from fresh. If you want it quicker, just go somewhere where they use a microwave and stop carping. Great pub for an evening out - terminally inacessible, but well worth the effort. Recommended.

Dear 'Simmel'.. the reason you had to wait until 8am to get out of the locked pub was.. there was nobody in..!!

I had the misfortune of staying there for a few days recently, there is nothing wrong with the pub itself, its old with character and serves good beer, but thats as far as it goes. Its in the most inaccessible place you could wish for, but thats no fault of the pub, the bar service was slow as the bar staff (only one or at the most two) were busy taking food orders as well as serving drinks, but the thing I was most put out about is that having driven 250 miles to get there arriving at just after 2pm, that I as a resident, could not get a drink after time (2.30 pm) because they said they were too busy in the afternoon. The room was nothing to write home about, very small and dark with a plastic shower cabinet and toilet, certainly not worth the top price of 75 pounds a night for B+B As for the food, the pastry on my beef and Guinness pie was under done and the new potatoes were only half cooked. After that I stuck with the plowman's. The other thing that struck me was, that there didnt seem to be any regulars, different faces every night. Not being able to get out to my car in the car park until someone arrived at about eight O'Clock in the morning to unlock the door and let me out of the pub, also seemed rather odd Sorry but not my kind of pub or B and B.

Stop here enroute to Devon. What a fabulous establishment! Had a wonderful pint of porter and an equally tasty ploughmans lunch with very generous portions of cheese. Service was first class and extremely friendly. A great place to soak up the beautiful Devonshire countryside, whilst taking care of a first rate brew!

Brilliant Pub - open fire, low beamed ceilings, fresh local bar food & restaurant @ uninfalted prices, good car park.
Extensive range of loacl cheeses, good wine list, large selection of whiskies. Excellent own Real Ale.
B&B when you need it.
