For an Ember Inn, having to wait nearly an hour for food on a midweek evening from 6.30 is completely unacceptable. What we then got was mediocre at best.
Word of advice - if you want the flat bread pizza, order from the children's menu where its advertised as a kid's pizza.. It's exactly the same & two pounds cheaper!! And you get a pudding!!
Beer range looked reasonable at first, but most were not ready.
Used this pub as my local in the early 1980s, how things have changed!!

popped in last night for a carvery. the meat was so tough i could not eat it. when i told the girl she said " oh dear " never again peaple never again.it was crap...

Hi, I am possibly the longest surviving regular at The Queen Adelaide I am now 66 and started going when I was......well just lets say younger than I should have been! As you can imagine I have seen many changes over the years. New managers, new bar staff, new kitchen staff and numerous re-vamps. What has never changed is the great atmosphere, it's still a warm friendly pub with friendly staff and a great carvery. I now have children and grandchildren who eat there most Sundays and I still pop in two or three times a week for a beer with my mates and the odd meal. The food is great...a full carvery Mon-Fri 5.95!! you can't really beat that...give it a try. If you see an old guy at the bar know as 'JC' you can always buy me a beer!

carvery great. good food value for money...4 50 all week 6 50 sunday... beer good ...service good... what more would you want,,,,,

we fancied a carvery and popped into this place about 2pm on a Sunday. The staff were great and we got seated straight away, and very fast with the drinks. The only real letdown was the meat portions, three small slices... the veggies were great and a good selection but overall have had a better deal elsewhere..Dave

Didn't eat there this time, but has a nice relaxing area for a drink - a bit expensive maybe but good to unwind in.

Well what can i say, i loved this place before they did it up, now it's even better... Just a couple of things, althought the staff are very attentive and friendly you do tend to get 3 waiters/waitresses coming up to ask if you'd like drinks and you can sometimes wait quite a while for them to come and get your card to pay. With a little more organisationm where the staff are concerned this place will be top notch... Well done guys....

Took a family party of six recently after hearing good news, and was not let down. The staff was excellent, the carvery was great and you can get the juicy bits if you ask. You can get as much as you want. No problem - but do get there early to get a good table. Very pleased with the service and Manageress was interested in your thoughts. Will go again.

Visited this pub on 1st May while on way to Kingston and havent noticed it before, The Bar Staff were very helpful, and the food was great, good portions and great quality. Seemed like a nice relaxed atmosphere, and was relatively quiet I would definatly recommend

Went to preview evening free food was great if they can do this when they are fully booked think how good it will be in general. New decor is nice very modern and thank god the've done away with the tv now we can chat and socialise without being told to keep it down by some old boy watching the footie. Also gone is the pool table that was not used that much anyway. All in all the pub has a totally different feel and I for one will be returning. Well done to all.

This pub is currently closed. Bulldozers and no sign of life. . . .

For some reason I didn't like this place the first time I went here for a carvery meal, but recently I've been back a couple of times and I really can't think of why it was I didn't like it immediately. Friendly staff, good service and good value all round. I'm won over.
Soon to close for renovation, I'm told....

I have been put off going to this pub in the past by postings on this page but I was persuaded to go with some friends who go there every week, they said that since the new manager went in in Aug it has gone from strength to strenghth, she has got a lovely crew of girls in the resuarant and the barmen are not too bad either.. :) the food has been much improved, apparently because of the new kitchen manger (aussie I believe) she came over and said hello and was very pleasant, and even better, the food was great, yes the bar was a little bit smokey but hey there wont be any smoking at all in pubs soon, (hoorah). The place was impeccably clean the standards were top class, well done to you all,

I don't know if you're all going to the same pub as me..... I've been here twice in recent weeks and the food has been amazing... yeah it is a bit quiet, but it's quite nice to sit and eat a meal and be able to chat to your friends and HEAR what they have to say. The staff are great, very friendly and attentive... I've been a manager in the bar and catering industry for 10 years so i like to think i can give a solid opinion. Keep up the good work...

Having read the review by CathyN from 20th Sept we decided to try this pub again since it is the closest one within walking distance.
I would not take my family to this place - full of smoke! Admittedly more people in it this time than before.
The non-smoking area was a complete mess with one small table that we were all supposed to cluster around with lots of chairs on their own. We actually got caught sitting at the edge of the restaurant section to escape the smoke - only to be told it was "totally" closed! When we asked for another table for the non-smoking area since one was missing it was reluctantly provided.
Although they had a nice guest beer I will NOT be going back to this pub and have not revised my original opinion of it.

This pub WAS lifeless,a new manager has taken over, and its much better than its been in ages, since gerraldine left, its been going down hill, but the new landlady has got her work cut out. The food is on the mend, and the service could still do with a little work, but rome wasnt build in a day was it?? Id go again & take my Family with me.
|
This has to be the worst pub I have ever been into.
From the choking smoke due to lack of any ventilation, to the absence of any atmosphere or people! How a pub this large can be almost completely empty on a Saturday night just shows how truely awful it is.
Would have to be truely desperate to go there again, despite my partner living withing a quick stagger of the place.
|
We just got a new manager who seems to really care about what's going on. She has a lot of work to do but things are definately looking better and she's only been here three days.
|
I went to this pub a few days ago with my work mates for lunch. First the tills were down so they had to write everything down. (not there fault i know) but the plump girl who was serving us was so rude. She didnt seem happy that we all wanted food but its a carvary pub so what did she expect? As we sat outside one of my work mates had asked the same girl for tomato sauce and she walked off and muttered something under her breath, it wasnt very nice from what i remember. When the food came out is was obvious that they had microwaved all the meals just before we got them to heat them up as they had got cold in the kitchen. Have you tryed microwaved gammon? it tasted awful, i left my half eaten meal and went to the petrol garage next door to get a sandwich, and it was far nicer then the rubbish i was served in this pub. If you can avoid eating here i would if i were you, unless of course you enjoy frazzled food and rude bar staff. 0 out of 10.

What an awful pub - no atmosphere, such a shame. (Avoid eating in there)
|
Back in the 40's 50's and 60's this was a fantastic Pub/Hotel, well patronized because it was well run by the owner (George Ringwood, and the barman Fred ?), this was our family local as it was for a great many families in the area, and indeed from Stoneliegh, Ewell and Worchester Park. Pity to hear it's going down hill.
|
This is my local pub, but i drink in Ewell as this pub is a dive. Its never got any atmosphere, the barmaid changed her accent every time i went to the bar. All in all a complete tipp, bring back aberahim the old manger, now he was great.
|
Once upon a time this pub had a magnificent atmosphere, the Thursday Quiz Nights were stuff of local legend. It was a truly great pub. However, all good things and all that... A change of landord, and an influx of "the younger crowd" now leave this once fine establishment as a pale imitation of its former self. One of British Public House History's great shames.
